In reply to: How does this forum work?!
Roger Coathup
ParticipantIt’s just this site that doesn’t work.
http://testbp.org works a bit better, but I still don’t think there’s any searching of forums on there.

ParticipantHello everyone,
Sorry for your discomfort.
We missed it to test the theme properly enough against BP 1.6 and feel sorry for it.We are now working with 2 devs on a new version to support 1.6 and fix some overdated issues.
New version will be available around next week.
I will post it here in the forum when the new version is released.
Thanks to Paul Gibbs for pointing us on this.

LIB53
MemberBuddypress 1.6, using the BuddyPress Default theme. The user is shown as banned in the Admin > Members list. The user cannot create forum topics, forum replies, or write new updates in the group. In a green box underneath the group description it states “You have been banned from this group.” when that user visits the group. It’s a public group. The banned user can still read everything, and he can reply to activity feed entries.
This was possible on previous versions of buddypress (1.5.6 i think) and I was wiping and re-installing wordpress and buddypress on two different servers (local and online) both producing the same results with fresh installs. I really had nothing to do that day… My site ended up only using private groups and I thought this was intended so I didnt mention it before.

KeymasterNot out of the box. If you are creating a *brand new* BuddyPress site, you don’t need to use the Group Forums at all. I recommend that you:
1) Go to Settings > BuddyPress > components, disable the “Group Forums” component. Save.
2) Go to the Pages menu, and delete the “Forums” page which BuddyPress would have created for you.
3) Go to Settings > bbPress settings, and scroll right down to the bottom. You’ll see a box labelled something like “enable BuddyPress integration”. Tick it, save.
4) That’s all!August 10, 2012 at 9:35 pm #139110In reply to: [Resolved] Cannot add a new forum topic in groups

ParticipantThanks for all the help and feedback – this support forum is great!
Having had so many minor problems pop up, I decided to try and remove wordpress and start over. The reason was because I had done a scripted install via cPanel using “QuickInstall”.
So I did a manual install of wordpress, then installed BuddyPress, then installed BBPress.
Happy to report all the issues I had before are gone. Everything seems to be working as it should.
Agains, thanks for all the help!

KeymasterAre you using group forums or site forum?
August 10, 2012 at 5:51 am #139024@mercime
Participant@q5sys
1. Install bbPress plugin (sitewide forums)
2. There is a phpbb3 converter Read https://bbpress.org/forums/topic-tag/phpbb3/
2. Have conversion done.
3. Double-check/test that conversion to bbPress is seamless
4. Install BuddyPress.
5. Read https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/Also know that Group Forums (custom bbPress 1.0) will be merged/switched over to bbPress plugin 2+ (sitewide forums) come BP 1.7 or so.

MemberPaul, OK, I get that.
I get a little on edge when the wingnuts fall off the car wheels, the prescription medicine makes all my hair fall out or the new upgrade crashes the site. I’m like that. I’ll get a punching bag or something and quit talking it in the forum. Only constructive stuff from now on.
Do remember your own advice when the wingnuts fall off your wheels and the car service department asks you to be constructive. ( Laugh…. I had to). ;o)

MemberIs there a way to add this to my custom functions.php so I don’t have to edit the template?
August 9, 2012 at 4:26 pm #138969notpoppy
Participant@r-a-y OK that didn’t quite work for me but this did:
`function enable_nav_item () {
global $bp;
if ( $bp->groups->current_group->id == MY_GROUP_ID )
return true;
else
return false;
}`I’m not sure why this worked – I got the idea from this old thread. It would be good to know why if someone can explain it to me.
The way I see it, in order to complete this I now need to create individual versions of the complete code for each group where I require these custom tabs. I am sure there’s vastly more elegant ways of doing this but with my meagre PHP knowledge this is the best I can muster for now!

ParticipantThis question has nothing to do with BuddyPress.
Please ask on the RocketTheme, or a basic CSS / HTML forum. Or simply search ‘IE conditionals’ in Google

MemberOkay, I went in and manually deleted the bbpress plug and bb-config file. what else should I look for when cleaning this out for installation of the site-wide forums? Thats all this site really needs.
