@1. Okay, thanks! I’ll try to see if that works later on today. I’m on an iPad right now…err actually i might be able to just search the plugin & install that way instead of manually uploading like i usually do. I’ll report back and letchu know how that works

    P.S. I didn’t provide a username/pass test account, but i will if it doesn’t work.

    @2. ohhhh, i didn’t know i needed multisite installation :p thanks for that :D

@3. No i didn’t see a link, haven’t went to the “groups/create” URL, and i have group forums, and didn’t see “create new topic” though i shall check again.

@mercime Thank you so much for responding :D At first no one responded, so i basically gave up on anyone responding :p Anyways, thanks a bunch, i’ll try to respond a bit later.

All you need is in that first line. Let’s break it down:

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught exception ‘apiServiceException’ with message
    ‘Error calling https://www.googleapis.com/plus/v1/people/108328961616806242196/activities/public?maxResults=5&alt=

json: (403) Daily Limit Exceeded. Please sign up’

    in /home/wolf/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google/lib/external/google/io/apiREST.php:99

Going backwards, the error is coming from the wp-content/plugins/google/ plugin, and specifically the error returned is “Daily Limit Exceeded”. Looks like you need to sign up or otherwise increase your rate limit for whichever Google API you are using.
Also, assuming this Google plugin is actually https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google/, you should be able to use WPMUDEV’s support forums if you need further assistance resolving this.

By default BuddyPress doesn’t send ‘crazy amounts of emails’, and doesn’t typically email to every user — what emails are you receiving? What notifications do you have turned on? Is it site wide notifications? What theme are you using? Please provide as much information as you can, as it makes it easier for people on the forum to help you

You’ll have to use site wide forums, but bbPress 2.1 can do this for you. Check it out: bbpress.org

This seems to be happening on all the write boxes as well.
For example, in the “What’s new in …” forum groups page – the surrounding div id is ‘whats-new-textarea’ and the text area id is ‘whats-new-textarea’
Clicking in the box opens it out.

    Not sure what’s causing it.

I am going to have an headache with this “privacy” thing. YOU CANT MONETISE A PRIVATIZED SITE WITH ADSENSE!.

If your after privacy, I recommend Elgg. I left it because of that stupidly built feature. With that free script a user can even privatize a forum post.

I am just nobody here. But this is how I did it.

Before installing buddypress i created a page named “group forums” and when installing buddypress forums, assigned it as its sole page. Later seperately installed bbpress. No harm at all

Hi, this is partially resolved. I repeatedly deactivated and activated the plugin and finally a registration page showed up. But still no forum page.

I can also now see a place to post as a member -YAY!

I am now trying to figure out what favorites are. I have an admin account and a test account and I can’t see anywhere to click “favorite” I am toooo stupid for buddy press. LOL

Doug — the notification will be because I explicitly @mention ‘d you in the reply.

Yes, the behaviour of these forums is not a good advert for BuddyPress — although some of that is down to the coding of this site, rather than a BuddyPress specific problem.

Recently, a plugin version of bbPress was released, which significantly improved support for forums on a BuddyPress based site. That gives proper notifications, and the sort of features you’d expect from regular forums. Unfortunately, the alternative ‘group based forums’ as used on this site, really don’t deliver a good experience.

If you want to customise the twentyten theme, you are best to post on the WordPress.org forums for support. This forum is for BuddyPress-specific questions.

    Roger, thanks.

By the by, I did get an email notification telling me of your reply, which is why I am back.

But I find these forums horrendously slow, and also hard to navigate. Plus it keeps on thinking I’m logged out when I’m not. Is that all buddypress’s problem, or a bbpress issue?

    Thanks,

    doug

    @douglerner

There are some off the shelf plugins for import from CSV file, but I’ve heard varying reports on whether they work successfully.

In the cases were we’ve needed it, we built our own custom routines to bulk import users from CSV file into BuddyPress. It could certainly be done for your data set.

re: your ps. No, there’s no way of receiving notifications. The ‘support forums’ would be far more useful if they were built on traditional forum software.

    Hey guys

I have read your thread and I had almost same problem just few minutes ago and that is how i found this forum.

    1. Registration problem
My problem was that my friends were able to register on the website, they got the invite and confirmation emails but when they then clicked on the registration link the got ERROR. I solved it by going to BuddyPress (in the dashbord to the left under General Settings) – Page. There you can see REGISTRATION two options Register and Activate. Make sure the dropdown next to Register says REGISTER and the dropdown next to ACTIVATE says ACTIVATE (Do not mix it with the Activity Streams below otherwise it wont work)

When changed the dropdown to ACTIVATE it worked and my friends are able to register themselves now. I hope it solved few of your problems.

    2. Sending invite and confirmation emails to your invited friends
Make sure you install the plug in INVITE-ANYONE under Plugins. Because that plug in together with the registration form works together for sending emails and completing the registration.

Hope this helps and solves your problems as this is an amazing platform.

    Best
    Jasmine

    Roger,

Thanks for the update. And yes, I want to to do the second option. My website does not have much activity. The activity stream is used almost like a forum where people post questions or leave comments. However, when someone posts a question, none of the members ever know. So the questions go unanswered. I will look into the action hooks that you mentioned. Are there any tutorials on how to use action hooks?

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

    Hi Steve-
Supposedly you can have forums for both groups and sitewide. My recommendation is to download and activate the plugin ‘bbPress’ which is a forum plugin. That will quickly and easily put you on the path to sitewide forums, and it works rather well. Group based forums on the other hand is something I’ve been tinkering with off and on since about february and still can’t get them to work, and apparently I’m not alone in this (though I’ve heard there are many people who have gotten them to work properly). If you do manage to get group based forums to work, I’d love to hear what you did to get them working. Good luck.

    See and test https://buddypress.org/community/groups/miscellaneous/forum/topic/buddypress-1-6-beta-2-is-ready-to-test/

SOME privacy issues have been addressed. But not to the extent of being able to (out of the box) hiding members profile, groups, pages from visitors.

Just, now, visibility of individual profile fields can be allowed to be toggled/or fixed by admin between

As you are using the Parallelus theme – it might be worth asking on their support forums if this is a known problem
