It is unfortunate that you’re having a hard time setting up BP. Have you checked out server requirements and other installation guides at BuddyPress Codex. For example:
1. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/#system-server
2. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/buddypress-1-5-installation-wizard/

You use the same username and password to log into WordPress.org and BuddyPress.org, among others. Since you were able to log in and post here, you should be able to log in and post in WordPress.org forums with same username and password.If you still cannot do so, go to http://lists.automattic.com/mailman/listinfo/wp-forums

MemberHello.
I have a Buddypress site using buddypress 1.5.1, bbpress 2.0.2, and WordPress 3.2.1.
I am hosting our site on Godaddy. The main files of WordPress are sitting the site’s root directory as to avoid the “/WordPress” in our url.Anyway my issue is this: we are using the Default bp theme. I know you are supposed to create a child theme to make changes to the theme, so I am trying to find the code of file where I can add a “tab” at the top of the page under the heading along with “Home”, “Forum”, “Groups”, “Members”, that would be titled, “About”. I want there to just be an “About” tab next to the home tab. If I have to make a child theme, where would I make this change OR should I just make a stick post?

@mercime
Participant@stjack you mean you had the same plugins, same theme and same BP/WP versions and configuration before you moved to new server with same or better configuration? Then something could have been lost in the migration to new server – import of database or incomplete theme file uploads to server. Have you also tried changing to bp-default theme and check if behavior is corrected?

MemberNot to seize this topic, but I’m having the same issue – one variance – everything WAS working – until I moved to a new server two days ago. Now the topics that were working, are no longer visible or seemingly, associated to their appropriate Groups.
It seems to not be a plugin conflict issue – AND – @mercime – in my instance – groups are enabled… “groups” and “group” creation are working fine.
Creating new topics? Not working.

ParticipantSee: https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_Screen
This doesn’t appear to have anything to do with buddypress.
Unless you have installed and activated (or plan to activate) the buddypress plugin you should really ask any further questions on http://wordpress.org or maybe http://themekraft.com/forums (as you credit their themes)…

daverussellr
MemberHi,
I am using a themeforest theme that has buddypress baked in – salutation. I have not messed with the achievements templates. (I have managed to bubble up the achievements into the forum though so you can see the poster’s awards)
Is there another way to browse the page to make the picture update?December 1, 2011 at 9:08 pm #125408In reply to: bbPress version and updating
@mercime
Participant@johnnywallah see the difference between internal bbPress (group forums) and the bbPress plugin (sitewide forums) https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

MemberI see what you mean now.
However, I installed bbPress 2.0.2 through the WordPress installer but could not find the bb-config.php required for the installation. It does not seem to be there at all.
When I went to settings, forum – as instructed by the readme in bbPress – it threw a 500 server error and I could not do anything until I re-started the server.
I think it will be easier to just stick with the 1.x version.
Thanks anyway.

modemlooper
ModeratorThis is not a typical BuddyPress install, the usebase is tied into WordPress.com and there was an update to WordPress a few months back and it broke this site so they fixed enough to get site some what usable.
It’s taking longer to fix this site because John Jacoby is adding bbpress forums. Bare with the breakage now and get better support later with refreshed and enhanced forums.

MemberExactly the same for me if I click on a specific forum on here and then use the pagination links. I opened a thread about it on the troubleshooting thread, but cannot navigate to it to see if there was a reply!
I have had to hack my BP theme to remove ajax calls for pagination, and the dropdown selectors dont work either.
Pretty major bugs IMHO.

KeymasterThat can be easily accomplished with a group loop:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-groups-loop/The “Post New Topic” button just links directly to the group forum’s new topic form.

KeymasterWhich version of bbPress are you using? If 2.x, probably best to ask on the bbPress forums.

ParticipantThanks all. So what if I don’t care about my existing forum topics and posts and just want to move from Group Forums to the Sitewide forums? Would it be as easy as hitting “Uninstall Group Forums” and then “Install Site Wide Forums?”
