    ok… after reading a bunch on some forums… this is possible with mod rewrite

    (alot of cool things could be done with mod rewrite in .htaccess)

    for example,

    user types in

    username.domain.com

    and the user gets served

    domain.com/members/username

    or user types in

    domain.com/username

    and the user gets served

    domain.com/members/username

    so either way the domain gets entered, the user will still get served the same page

    any mod rewrite gurus out there?

    I envision a BP Admin option to select how member pages are viewed,

    which would then add a condition to the mod rerwite in .htaccess

    like choosing permalink structure in regular wordpress

    this would be a great addition to BP

    @Socialpreneur, do you want the price higher?if you got any questions ask the developer on the forum!

    Well, Mambenanje is the developer doing the job..

    Therefore, we could ask any questions and then start the project rolling!

    I believe this should be posted on the wPMU forums, not here.

    Ah. I ran across number 2 post. It was buried at the end of a resolved topic. Nobody is going to notice that. The best way is to pick an appropriate forum and start a new topic for each issue that you want to bring up.

    Still need to know what version bp and what version wpmu you are running.

    hmmmmmmmmmm…

    I do not find any option, to do that:

    Only these informations are getting listed:

    Activity Streams

    Blog Tracking

    bbPress Forums

    Friends

    Groups

    Private Messaging

    Comment Wire

    Extended profiles

    What shall I do now?

    Jeff Sayre

    is it possible to make certain components of profiles to be viewed for members only?

    Not yet. I’m working on a privacy plugin that will allow control at the profile group level. Andy is working on an overall privacy component for BuddyPress. No timeline for either.

    Until then, try this: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=39

    You know I was thinking about this another way Paul. New users need some handholding and encouragement. Perhaps you can detect that a group of users hasn’t met any of those criteria and do something to help things along.

    Stick them in a group that others can pay attention to. Everyone knows that forum questions coming from that group should be cut some slack and patiently answered. New users may not feel comfortable asking questions in the main forums/groups. Questions that anyone has in a new environment. We still feel dumb asking them. I don’t feel quite as stupid if everyone in a particular group is as dumb as I am.

    New users are eager to share their experience, even if limited, with others. It’s a group of people who fit together.

    A ‘Welcome’ group they can graduate from by participating there. It’s 4am here. This might actually sound stupid after a couple of hours sleep. Ah, well. Too late to care.

    Are you using the wpmu 2.7.1 beta and bp trunk? The error leads me to believe one or the other isn’t so. See in here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2190 there’s a post about getting the most recent bp and wpmu.

    You might want to talk to the theme author. Perhaps they have seen this error in relation to the theme before.

    Okay, first a couple of questions:

    I have a fairly vanilla instance of the latest wpmu release…

    1. What does this mean? The latest release of WPMU is 2.7. Is that what you’re running?
    2. Also, which BuddyPress trunk revision are you running?
    3. Are you running any other plugins besides BuddyPress?
    4. Did you follow all the instructions in the first post of this thread that pertain to custom themes?
    5. Did you read post eight in this thread?

    Regarding the code line that seems to be throwing the problem, that would indicate that you do not have the proper permissions set on the blogs.dir directory. See question 5 above.

    why don´t you all just partner with “Kaltura” ? This guy seems to be already experienced and it is for sure easier for him to convert this plugin to be useable with BP than developing this from scratch.

    I guess the guy from “Kaltura” has offered help in a previous post within this forum-topic….

    why don´t go the easy route ?

    I need to figure this out as well. I think this thread has some clues.

    How does this work in WPMU/BP? Where are the queries anyway? Should we use WPMU/BP specific tags/code instead? Are there code examples of common database requests somewhere?

    Any pointers are very much appreciated.

    It’s up to you of course Roger. There have been quite a few changes since RC1. Lots of new capabilities, you’ll have to run wpmu 2.7.1 beta. bp 1.0 is going to be out shortly here and the forums are going to get kinda nutty.

    It might be best to upgrade now instead of after 1.0 and get your eventual problems solved now. Heads up.

    Okay, next question:

    1. Did you follow the instructions in the first post here under the section heading “If you are using your own customized themes”?

    Roger that fn I wrote was 3 months old. Things have changed in bp. All you need to do is add a filter to change the logo now.

    see: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1969&replies=2#post-10463

    Sorry for the late reponse. Your post got ‘spammed’ by akismet because of number of links in the post. The plugins in /mu-plugins don’t need a plugin header like that. Your code will translate better in the forums with backticks before and after.

    Hi, Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the double posting in both wpmu and buddypress forums. Just a bit newbie over-zealousness on my part. I’m moving the post here as it’s more a buddypress integration thing. Haven’t really figured out how to do what I’d like, so here goes a bit of further explanation hoping I can track down a solution.

    I want to run my main wpmu/buddypress website in my root using the primary blog to manage the site pages:

    * http://mydomain.com/about

    * http://mydomain.com/forum

    * etc.

    My primary blog, which I want to be a community one, will be at:

    * http://mydomain.com/blog

    * http://mydomain.com/blog/blogpage … etc

    Using the buddypress defaults all my member pages are at:

    * http://mydomain.com/members/membername/

    * http://mydomain.com/members/membername/activity … etc.

    My ideal solution would be to have the member blogs underneath their member pages:

    * http://mydomain.com/members/membername/blog/

    * http://mydomain.com/members/membername/blog/blog_entry .. etc.

    If that’s possible I’d love it as it keeps all the urls for a member grouped together. Any ideas if this is possible?

    If not, then I’d like to have the blogs grouped together in a sub-folder of my root, i.e.:

    * http://mydomain.com/memberblogs/membername1/

    * http://mydomain.com/memberblogs/membername2/

    I’ve tried installing mu/bp in a sub-directory, but that leaves me with no way to manage the root pages via mu/bp. I tried following the WordPress codex advice “Giving WordPress Its Own Directory” https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory but to no avail. It did work with my wpmu installation, but after trying to update my primary blog options I ended up with a database error and now can’t login.

    Apologies for being so verbose here, but just trying to figure out if something I’m after is possible. Thanks so much for the help thus far. Cheers, Dan

    I’ve been over this entire post, and the posts linked off from it. Everything is working good, but the ability to have a forum post created by a group forum. And upon creating a new group, I get the error “Attention Site Admin: Group forums require correct setup and configuration of a bbPress installation.”

    The couple of comments in here that have just this problem didn’t seem to get responses. Could this be my host, Media Temple DV, not allowing the rpc calls to the server?

    Ninh-

    I’ve looked at your site and of course cannot duplicate the problem without logging in. But, that’s okay.

    You mention that you’re using a custom theme. Read the first post in this thread, paying close attention to the parts that talk about custom themes. Also, there are more posts within this thread that discuss theme issues that could apply.

    It appears that you are still using BuddyPress 1.0_RC1. I cannot remember if any of these issues apply to RC1. Perhaps someone with longer BP experience can chime in.

    Nobody in their right minds is going to touch this post andrepan. Try going to wordpress or wpmu’s forums and searching for ‘timezone’, ‘gmt’. You’ll see the insanity. We’ve got server time, blog time for each blog and the user’s time. Did I mention daylight savings time?
