KeymasterI’ve renamed my admin account to get around this. However, i’d like to get a way of hiding the bbpress forum user account for the user listing on the home page. Andy could we get a filter added in for this?

KeymasterBuddypress is not unusable software. I suggest being a bit more polite if you come looking for help, especially to the official Buddypress forums.
It’s because you’re trying to shoehorn a PHP script into your theme. Either one of the PHP variables you use in the snippet in bold is used elsewhere by Buddypress – thus getting weird conflicts – or it’s to do with one of your mysql_ function calls, possibly mysql_select_db().

ParticipantI wont start a new thread for this but just add my needs for this type of functionality.
– Needs to be per group, just like a forum, and not per blog
– Should allow wire posts at the least – adding photos and other types of information would be great though
– Should allow for repeating events
– Should have member lists (preferably with status)
These are the needs I can think of right now.
The calendar/event plugins I have looked at don’t have any bp (or even mu?) functionality and all assume that you’re going to use them on your blog so they’re not of any use.
@nicola: I’m not sure I understood your reply. Are you working on this or are you awaiting a release from someone else?

MemberAmazing what a lunch break and a sanity check can do for an oldskool internet guy…. I found that by installing the BBPRESS aplpha version onto my wpmu 2.7 and latest BB SVN as of Feb 4th 09 build it all works nicely..
thank you to everyone on this thread and to trent for a great write up, would never have got it working without it… I mixed a bit with the video followed the details and then downloaded the alpha version as the latest BBPRESS 0.9.0.4 didn’t work for me but the latest alpha build does…..
I can actually go and finalise my house renovation without any issues now.. THANK YOU everyone involved with BP big thumbs up

MemberOpiater: I would set the user role map as admin = master key editor = moderator and the rest as member
This is my understanding and reading between the lines.. I get stuck at step 3 for the rpc settings it doesnt appear when I install the plugin, but this could be a total misunderstanding about where the xml rpc settings should be changed….

MemberI agree.
the website TBD.com uses a wire as a forum…and it works awesome…Buddypress is right along those lines…now if we could quote others on the wire…BBpress wouldn’t be so much of a necessity

ParticipantUnder issue is my mistake.
I activated “Name based” permalinks in bbPress but didn’t make .htaccess file for it. Sorry.
p.s. How to deal with “User Role Map” in bbPress admin interface, ignore it?

MemberI think that options are key, and allowing the Admin to set a wire option, and then allowing each member to adjust their wire posts is a necessity.
I have a group that isn’t big, but uses the wire like a forum…and 6 posts is way too little

Participant@danielfelice this actually is a bug, but not of BP, but rather WPMU and WP. Problem is that users are registering on your server “in the future” or rather from a timezone that your server hasn’t hit yet. Judging by what you said, 5 or 6 timezones ahead of the server time. Since it doesn’t exist yet, WP and WPMU spit that out

Make sense? Not sure of a solution, but I hear through grapevine that Otto, one of the WP mods maybe wrote a plugin that fixes this? Haven’t found it, but might be worth a search in the wordpress.org/support/ forums.

ParticipantHi Guys,
Has anyone done anything more with this bug? I’m not getting anything when I click the rss link on any page – it takes me to a blank page e.g. http://sitename.org/activity/feed
I’m using the beta 2 download of buddy press and have it integrated with MU 2.7 svn. I updated everything (from scratch) on Friday as I broke my integration with BBpress for the forums on the first install.
BTW, RSS didn’t work the last time I installed it either – i was running the last version of MU 2.6.5 and god knows what svn of BP – I’m using both firefox 3 and IE7 if that makes any diff? I also have gears installed.
I just tried this in Safari and it returned this error:
‘Safari can’t open the page “http://sitename.org/members/membername/activity/feedâ€. The error was: “unknown error†(CFURLErrorDomain:302)’
I hope that helps?
Cheers (and thanks for an AWESOME piece of kit!)
Phil

In that post, I first agreed with what Burt said but in the end I used the suggested plugin: http://www.callum-macdonald.com/code/wp-mail-smtp/ and it works like a dream.

ParticipantI’ve been looking at this problem and getting frustrated. I realized finally that the filter function actually does two things:
$content = htmlentities( $content, ENT_COMPAT, "UTF-8" );
$content = str_replace( '&', '/amp/', $content );From http://loadaveragezero.com/app/drx/Data_Formats/Character_Encoding
[…] But there are a number of other issues to deal with. In particular, because UTF-8 is a multibyte encoding, meaning one character can be represented by more one or more bytes. This causes trouble for PHP, because the language parses and processes strings based on bytes, not characters, and makes mincemeat multibyte strings – for example, by splitting characters ‘in half’, bodging up regular expressions, and rendering email unreadable.
Karl can you just comment out the following lines please:
Line 46
$content = str_replace( '&', '/amp/', $content )in bp-forums-filters.phpand line 52
$post_text = str_replace( '/amp/', '&', $post_text );in buddypress-enable.php on the bbpress side.I’d like to narrow this down to the htmlentities fn.
I’m gonna help solve this or just move to a planet where only ASCII is spoken.

MemberHello,
i still have not found the problem with the umlauts.
the strange thing is, that in the forum title (BuddyPress frontend) the umlauts are there, but in the text the are deletet.
So if the title is like öäüÖÄÜß, after sending it, it looks like öäüÖÄÜß
If i write the same umlauts in the textbox, then after sending it the text is empty.
Is the filter for the title and the textbox not the same in BuddyPress?
If i write it in the bbPress Frontend, everything is ok.
Best,
Karl

ParticipantThat sounds ominous. I googled the phrase and found several forums (with WPMU) where people reported the same problem and gave some fixes. No one seemed to think it was that big of a deal.
As for me, my WPMU works fine until I add the buddypress plugin; then it stops working.
Anyone have any solutions?
