In reply to: IIS specific settings for BuddyPress 1.6.x?
rodtrent
ParticipantYou would *think* BP doesn’t touch XMLRPC at all, but here’s the scenario…
Pre BP 1.6x – works fine. Windows Live Writer connects and works. JetPack can connect.
Post BP 1.6x – With BP activated, Windows Live Writer cannot post to WordPress. You have to disable BP before JetPack will connect correctly – gives error about XMLRPC. So, something that BP is doing when enabled, locks XMLRPC.
I’ve reported this to the JetPack folks and they are checking into it.

Using BP DefaultAugust 21, 2012 at 7:11 pm #139932@mercime
ParticipantNo, we don’t use Jetpack in our installations since we only needed some features which were already filled by other solutions.
Just a thought, have you tried deactivating plugins except BuddyPress and JetPack to check if it was a conflict with another plugin?

Participant@mercime Just posted there, are you having the same issue too? Thanks!

ParticipantYes…problem still occurs, even after disabling all plugs and switching themes.
Strange issue. The WLW is attributed to something with the xmlrpc.php file, and so is the JetPack connection issue. So, I assume, based on that, there’s a problem with looping through user accounts, or accessing user accounts, when displaying groups/members/forums pages.

Keymaster@rodtrent – Disable all 3rd-party plugins you are using except BuddyPress – this includes JetPack, BP Gallery, etc. Next, change your theme to the bp-default theme. Now, retry your BP pages. Does your problem still occur?

KeymasterThis problem and your Windows Live Writer issue is related to your 404 problem. Can you try and restrict your posts to one topic?
This is to avoid numerous topics on the same issue.
Thanks!

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterNeither BP or WP comes with a “notify me of new comments by email” by default, so it’s some other plugin. For example, Automattic’s Jetpack plugin’s comments feature adds this.

MemberI think I’ve figured it out. It seems to be conflicting with Jetpack. When both are activated I have the problem. When I deactivate one or the other things clear up.

ParticipantIf you cannot resolve it with the basic methods used to increase memory, contact webhost tech support re max allowed memory for your hosting plan. In the meantime, you might want to deactivate JetPack first.

Participant== Any thoughts on why AJAX/JS isn’t working? ==
Usually conflict with plugins. Have you tried deactivating some plugins (e.g. Jetpack) to check if issue is resolved? I always set up BP using bp-default theme and check that everything’s working before adding plugins or changing themes.March 16, 2012 at 5:32 am #131459In reply to: Groups will not create

MemberHello,
In the end they all work together. My issue was one of two things. 1. template not compatible or 2. missed a step in in configuring wordpress for multisite functionality. Here was the solution.
Made a new directory in root for community and started fresh wordpress setup.
Disable the jetpack plugin which was automatically active. Install buddypress and setup.
Install setup magic members. Here are two articles that are helpful.

ModeratorTrue, but I’m making it more apparent what are tweets and what are blog feeds.
CJ, I’m updating bp share it as a jetpack add on, so it wouldn’t be a good idea to duplicate the plugin.

MemberThanks for your response,
I have WP 3.3.1/BP 1.5.4
I’m logging in from a mac, so I believe it’s OS X? I’m using Safari. Does that answer your question appropriately?
I have the default BP theme
I have installed s2member, akismet, bbpress, bp, bp pending activations, invite anyone, jetpack, mail from, page tagger, skt nurcaptcha, wiziapp, and wp show id’s
For permalinks, it’s set to post name. When I tried it as default, it gives a 404 error message when someone tries to get on the site.I installed the plugin ‘redirect to profile’ but that one didn’t seem to work. However, I found one called ‘profile as homepage’ and it seems to work when someone has left my site without logging out and then goes back to the site. But it still doesn’t do the trick when a person logs in. I still get the same ‘page not found’ message.

ModeratorI have this on a site and it was neither hacky or fiddly, I’ll add the ability to bp share it plugin but I warn that the plugins next version will require Jetpack

James Carroll
MemberI had a similar issue weeks ago and nearly gave up on BuddyPress because of it. Today I tried a fresh [1] install of BuddyPress 1.5.2 with WordPress 3.2.1. I did have to wait about five minutes, but the email did come through.
Are you getting any error messages?
Try to log in with the new username and see if you get the error “you need to activate your account” (not verbatim) (Update: The error reads, “Your account has not been activated. Check your email for the activation link” in WordPress, I’m sure the BuddyPress error message is very close)[1] I didn’t change any settings from their default expect (“Anyone can register”). The only other plugins that are activated are AutoChimp and JetPack, which shouldn’t have anything to do with this issue.
Hang in there! BuddyPress is a young project. If you persist, I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

Memberhi slushman,
try to login from admin link, not from main page. if u login from homepage, you’ll be treated like ordinary user, no admin dashboard will appears.
i have the same problem.. also with JetPack sending me to homepage again, nothing seems to happen and i still got the “Your Jetpack is almost ready – Connect to WordPress.com to enable all features. Connect to WordPress.com” message.
i don’t feel like it’s a bug though, maybe there’s something that we miss
i’m still figure out what i missed, that’s what makes me land on your post here. -
