    Sorry, Socialpreneur, but I CAN\’T do this =) It is my blot.

    It is any children\\\’s bug, I was registered on this site. But registration has thrown out me on a wordpress site. Whether it is necessary to post it in bugtrack?

    Jeff, That sounds like a good idea. I am still having the registration email not reaching problem for some activations. Can I just backup and remove all old records by editing the error log or would this break something?

    http://wspinacze.pl and http://climbers-blog.org

    – to enable registration of blogs on both domain i moved back to wp-signup.php due to redirection issues (in fact register works only on first domain – same with blogs, members. groups)

    – buddypress part is only avaiable on wspinacze.pl domain – do you have any idea to show it on both domains? if yes – what about different language on each domain?

    – i\’m not sure if that is really what i want to do – but does anybody have an idea how to separate buddypress part for each domain? in fact that would mean that only users are same across all domains.

    – there was a problem with logging to second domain through adminbar (it always uses first domain) – my solution was to do:

    remove_action( \’bp_adminbar_menus\’, \’bp_adminbar_login_menu\’, 2 );

    add_action( \’bp_adminbar_menus\’, \’my_bp_adminbar_login_menu\’, 2 );

    where my_… is function with proper url

    Sorry for the confusion! Let me try to re-explain the process I followed.

    I’ve loaded the buddypress addon and moved all the folders to their appropriate spot.

    Then, I enabled the “BuddyPress Default Home Theme” under the Site Admin dropdown.

    I clicked through to the Appearance drop-down, and when I go to activate the theme, the screenshot loads with the error message regarding the misplacement of bp-themes directory. So I double checked the placement of the folder, and verified they are in the correct spot – despite what the error message says.

    I activated the file anyway, and then click the BuddyPress drop down and changed the “Member theme” to Skeleton, saved it, then switched it back, and saved it again.

    I activated user registration so you can sign up now as well, hopefully that will help.

    Jeff Sayre

    1. Yes – at the top of my screen it says “You’re logged in as a site administrator.” I’ve been going in through nacdb.com/members/wp-admin/ with the admin login and its password.

    2. I reset the error log, visited the buddypress setup, and copied the errors it produced at the bottom of this post. I seem to get the same one over and over.

    3. I’ve reselected the member theme (even switched it to the skeleton one and back) without any success.

    Here’s definition.

    http://wpmu.org/the-wordpress-mu-guide/site-options/standard-site-options/

    wpmu doesn’t have the option you are looking for. But you can use 2nd option with a plugin to moderate new blogs. To find out more, visit wpmu forums and wpmudev.

    This has nothing to do with BuddyPress. :)

    Hey, I changed the Allow new registrations options to another one and then switched back and now it seems to be working. I just tried to register a new user and the activation link came back fine. Thanks for your help guys. If the problems creeps up again Ill let you know.

    I do have another question about the allow new registrations options over here https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2525

    P.S. I did check the error log for the past couple of days for any reference to this error and didnt see anything. Infact, there don’t seem to be any errors with relation to the domain I am hosting BP on at all

    I swear that you\’re talking about 2 separate things.

    When activating the home theme, you will first use \”Themes\” to enable it. Then, you go to Appearance, click the theme and you get the big popup where you click activate.

    When activating the profile (member) theme, there is no screen shot. Only a pull down menu.

    So your statement of \”whenever I try to load the BP theme itself after activating it the large screenshot that comes up just says \”You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.\” seriously confuses me.

    That error should only be coming up on the profile page. i.e. nacdb.com/members/members/admin

    Also, could you enable registration of username & blogs so that anyone attempting to help can sign up for an account if need be.

    Tony-

    I had this issue as well about a month ago. The solution is simple. You need to create a new account.

    Why? Because, like me, you created an account with a space in your account name (username). Also like me, you choose to use your real name. Logically enough, you put a space between your first and last name. You can see that by hovering your cursor over your name. Do you see the “%20”? That is the space.

    This is not a BuddyPress issue. This is an issue with the way that WPMU processes new registrations, allowing spaces in usernames. Unfortunately, this can cause issues.

    Andy knows more about this issue than I do, but suffice it to say, when creating your new username, do not put a space in it.

    This question is about wpmu and not buddypress. anyway, those nonactivated users are deleted after 3 days (as far as I remember). There’re also plugins to enable the same email address registrations.

    Ok, the sign up form on the front page was directing to domain/register which does not work (the registration process shows success but does not send an activation email). I used domain/wp-signup.php instead and that worked fine (thanks TheEasyButton)

    I have the same problem. I am running 1.0 on a fresh install. The new user registration goes off successfully, but the activation email is never received. The buddypress install is at http://theindianstartup.com

    Okies, this problem is now fixed! Half of my issue was I forgot to turn on error display in php.ini so I could actually see if there were any. (Duh.)

    So, when I did, voila!

    Warning: require_once(wp-includes/registration.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/blahblah/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-settings.php on line 25

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘wp-includes/registration.php’ (include_path=’/home/blahblah/public_html/includes’) in /home/blahblah/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-settings.php on line 25

    So, I opened up bp-core-settings.php and took a peek at line 25 to see why it wasn’t including what it was supposed to be and the line says:

    require_once( WPINC . ‘/registration.php’ );

    So I changed it to:

    require_once( ABSPATH . WPINC . ‘/registration.php’ );

    And now things are running perfectly. Yay!

    Sorry,

    the problem is that whatever users put in the title field on registration is simply replaced with the subdomain of the blog

    Do you mean that you have users being registered without the site admin getting notification of that? There are a couple of settings in Site Admin > Options that control this:

    Registration notification

    Send the site admin an email notification every time someone registers a blog or user account.

    Add New Users

    Allow blog administrators to add new users to their blog via the Users->Add New page

    The second setting might be the culprit. It allows people who are blog admins to create people and bypass the registration process. I haven’t tested to see if it also sends out an email to the site admin.

    I had an idea of another way to combat the constant comment spam and registrations from bots, though I don\’t know if it would work.

    As the bots don\’t read the page like humans do, they just search for and find the forums to fill in, brings up an interesting idea.

    What about using \’hidden\’ fields that are not displayed on the screen itself.

    The idea being that if data is input into the field it could not possibly be a human, so we then know to \’not activate\’ or error out the comment/registration etc…

    The ‘auto spam bot programs’ that I have come across all look for specific fields etc. We could do something like name the hidden field ‘password’ etc, so the bot thinks it’s legit, but it’s not.

    Does anyone know if the bots are \’smart enough\’ to figure this out and get around it?

    I think it was after i added the option for new user registrations and i added some extra profile fields that “Recent Blog Posts (side wide)” and sitewide activity for new posts broke.

    Please help.

    Thanks all. I’m waiting to here back from BeLogical that it works. If it works without errors, I’ll release the new version.

    @Hyrxx: no, changing the account registration form to implement referrals or investigation of the data provided is beyond the scope of Welcome Pack. Sorry.

    You need to search for WPMU addons that would provide this. BP doesn’t provide the user registration routines.

    okay,

    update /reinstallation done. But the username (Nickname) is not diplayed yet. When I call it with these lines:

    bp_core_get_username( bp_the_site_member_user_id() );

    I get a number displayed….the registration order. Admin is 1, the first Testuser 2……

    Why?

    Ben, I took a look at something similar before. There were multiple requests for limiting the number of blogs a user could create. I came up with the only solution I could find at the time: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1328

    bp relies on wpmu’s settings for blog creation. wpmu controls this in the site admin back end. Site Admin > Options > Allow New Registrations. Whatever solution to your request is has to take into that setting in wpmu. It’s basicly an on/off kinda thing. You either can or can’t. It’s not based on user role.

    Disabling the registration/signup ‘gimme a blog’ option and you have people still able to create blogs after logging in. Let’s say we set that to ‘Only logged in users can create new blogs.’. It’s a start.

    So, now only logged in users can create blogs. The create a blog on registration is gone. Next issue is the need to let certain roles see and use the ‘create a blog’ option.

    This exists in the member theme Blogs > Create a Blog and in the admin bar under My Blogs > Create a Blog and My Account > Blogs > Create a Blog.

    (Saving this while I dig thru some code…)

    Register.php is a BuddyPress file whereas wp-signup.php is a WPMU file. If you use register.php, then wp-signup is automatically not used. In other words, you use one or the other. To choose to use wp-signup.php, you would need to delete register.php from your theme.

    Many people have issues customize wp-signup.php. Therefore, I’d recommend using register.php and customize that file instead.
