First suggestion is to upgrade to the latest bp which is RC-1. If you can do that and then report back please.

Just upload the wpmu-signup-captcha.php in the mu-plugins directory. Then the captcha appears automatically in your registration form.

You, as a site-admin, have the overall admin access over all users and complete site options. If you go to your Options in the Site-Admin menu, you can allow registrations to users and blogs would be the simple way. If you create the users, then turn on just blog registrations. Users will be able to create blog and have full control over “only” the blogs they create, not the entire site.

ok, here is what I just did…

    1) deleted all databases completely

    2) created brand new database for the MU/BP install

    3) Installed latest trunk of MU 2.7

    4) Tested everything…no issues at all

    5) Installed latest trunk of BP

    6) Looked at the DB, the correct fields are there

    7) Tested everything…no issues at all

    –“Full Name” Field is there

    –Registration goes perfectly

The above is using the WPMU Default theme!

Now, I have pulled that problem script out of the header of my custom theme and am going to upload it, activate it and see what happens without the script. Will report back.

    —-UPDATE—-

    Everythign worked fine. Next.

Ok, I added the php script back into the header….”Full Name” field gone again. So we have done the same procedure abotu 10 times and have concluded that that will not fix the issue. I think its time to start looking at this differently. I can say with 100% certainty that this all worked fine, perfectly, ALWAYS without exception on the Buddypress Beta 1. Back to square one!

I’m running WPMU 2.7 and BP 1.0b2 and this works w/o a problem as long as the user has entered a “full” name.

I also find users that entered their full name on registration (as this is required by the site).

Thanks for that. I just checked, there are indeed “tabs” (barely noticeable) when I try to edit my profile, and that info does show up on the public profile once populated. It’s not anywhere on the initial sign-up…is that by design? Is there a way to make the groups/fields available upon initial registration?

    #37543

Allright it works.. But i don’t understand why this doesn’t work on registration. You have to fill out your Name on registration so you should be found without updating your profile.. Any Idea how to fix that?

    Hi Mark,

I still can’t see any settings option or a place where I can include Captcha field on the profile page at the time of registration.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you so much.

Verify to just simply upload the wpmu-signup-captcha.php in the mu-plugins directory (not in the plugins directory) !?

The topic https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=843 has been closed and i feel sorry for it, because with my later installation wp MU 2.7 + BP béta 2, i’m still having this error msg :

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/np5397/domains/blogi.ee/public_html/wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-signup.php on line 104

    when creating a new blog

    that cause several issues :

    – can’t edit the profiles, create a group

    – blogs are created but aren’t showing in the recent activity, neither in the blogs tabs or in his owner’s profile

    – can’t send a message, invite somebody to be friend, etc

it seems that i have no x-profile tables in my db like burtadsit asks

    (tableprefix_)bp_xprofile_groups

    (tableprefix_)bp_xprofile_fields

    (tableprefix_)bp_xprofile_data

here is the list of the tables in my db ; can’t see it

I’m running IE (8 even) and that’s not the problem with Laura’s site (nor have I’ve seen it on my own setup).

The registration steps works fine, it’s the end result that is the problem.

So, I have gotten the other plugin to work, this one -> “WP-reCaptcha”.

But I think the one Andy is using on this site, looks so much better.

Any ideas if we can get there?

    Thank you so much;

I would very much like to to add the “Captcha field” to the registration form.

The one Andy is using on this demo site is great. But I can’t seem to get there yet.

Based on this discussion the right plugin could be this one: WPMU-Signup-Captcha

However, it does not seem to appear anywhere after I upload the plugin.

    Any ideas please?

    Thank you so much;

wow, nobody seems to have a clue, that makes using BP 100% impossible…whats a site with no users?

    Burt:

THANK YOU so much. It worked! I made the file executable, as you said, and it worked beautifully, directing me straight to the user’s profile page right after the lognin page.

But please don’t go away yet. The outstanding thing now is the password. Seeing as though users will have no access to the back end to change the password, they may be stuck with WordPress’s assigned password. Is there a way to help them have their own selected password?

This may be asking too much. But seeing as though we have Andy’s attention too, I hope we can do it and offer the users a great experience at the outset. I know once they get through the registration happily, they would be amazed by the power of this platform.

Nonetheless, I am already happy with this progress.

    Thanks so much;

    vida

I was referring to the current development version at:

    https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk *Zip at bottom*

I would make a backup of everything before trying it as the standard disclosure! There are loads running that version now (included me) and it is working fine.

When you say latest BP, do you mean trac version? I am aware of anyone else that is getting that error on the signup process is the only reason I ask.

There is nothing built in yet to the buddypress suite of plugins. You would have to search for options on WPMU itself. There are a variety of ways. Off top of my head:

    1) Have members email the site-admin about registration and then have the site-admin manually create their account (whole time with all registrations off)

    2) Use a plugin like “Signup Question” and then make the question and the answer something that you only give out to members you want to join. Almost like “invitation” so to speak.

    3) There are plugins that exist for the admin to “approve new blogs”, but don’t know of any that deal with user accounts themselves, but that might work.

    4) Create a page that users can use to signup by giving all the required information to the site-admin and then manually create them (so they don’t have to email you).

In terms of WPMU, there really is a “hole” in the invitation or restricting registration. It would be nice if something was created for sure, but as far as I can tell, options really are limited on solutions already created.
