I’m using WP Mail SMTP with Buddypress. I’ve reinstalled emails, and deactivated all plugins but Buddypress and WP Mail SMTP, but that doesn’t work. Test emails work fine though. I’ve also tried it with Buddypress deactivated and the regular WP registration emails work fine.

Any help with what else I might try to debug this would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi there,

Here’s an example of adding a custom section to the registration form. All you have to do if it’s static is add it and handle the input:
    https://gist.github.com/dcavins/e3e6a702e35d4f9ec8948c920d8b6c03

You could similarly add other profile fields/field groups on any of the hooks available on the registration page, though I’d use a profile field group loop to output those items.

    Hi all,

I’m trying to create a custom reg form with some of the Xprofile fields at the top, followed by the core fields, followed by more Xprofile fields.

I’ve tried doing this with CSS/relative positioning, but it’s pretty unreliable due to the different elements, visibility fields, etc.

Has anybody ever created a hard coded reg form, with the Xprofile fields placed in different locations in register.php? It’s not immediately obvious to me how this might be done outside the while loop, but if anybody can point me in the right direction I would be more appreciative.

    Thanks.

Place the template file you want to use in your child them at the location specified here: https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/theme-compatibility-1-7/template-hierarchy/#registration-page

When BuddyPress is updated, it won’t affect your child theme.

i am having a really bad network sorry for the late response, but i am already using a child theme. What i am confused about is changes inside the BP Plugin, like the registration page. I am want to know if after customizing it and BP Plugin updates will the changes i made go away.
    public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members
If i can override it with the child theme, then how? Because i don’t know how to. thanks again

There should be nothing additional required – no registration or enqueuing.

It looks like I made a typo in my original comment – I doubled the /buddypress/ path. Here’s the proper destintation in your theme:

    wp-content/themes/your-theme/buddypress/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php

    Sorry about that!

I want to customize BP registration page, I want to make the fields smaller and more elegant also I want to beautify the part that says “Check your email” after registration. And I noticed that these things are in the BP plugin. So I am confused if the plugin updates if those changes will vanish with the update. I don’t know if there is anything like a sub-plugin just like a child theme. Else, how can one make sure the changes remain after any BP update.

The first and simplest step is to use one of the registration captcha plugins from the repo.

Hey everyone. I am having trouble reworking a profile/registration field. I have a field that asks who or what are you. The options are male, female, couple or group. If the user selects say male or female then the next profile field is age and all is well, they simply fill out the form as usual and get an account. However, I have been trying with all my heart, patience and ability to figure out a way to have the option couple when selected, add an extra age field so that I can get the ages of both users. I have seen this done with buddypress before and I am sure it can be done, would anyone here have any ideas on how this could be accomplished?

BuddyPress’s Register page is a special kind of page that cannot be edited via the Dashboard. That’s why it’s blank when you view it in the normal way.

To add additional fields to the registration process, go to Dashboard > Users > Profile Fields. Add one for Address and one for Phone Number. Make them required and/or private, if you’d like. As long as they are part of the ‘Base’ profile field group, they will appear as part of the registration process.

Hi there and first sorry for my poor english.
I’m working on a new Learndash videos website. I want to use buddypress for user registrations / management.

Sadly no emails are sent from buddypress.

I installed a email log plugin and see no email sent from buddypress ( other emails are sent ).

I tried to go with WP MAIL SMTP with a costum office365 email, this option doesnt work either. WP Mail SMTP test email work, buddypress registration & notifications don’t.

I also tryed Postman also with smtp & my office 365. Test work & get logged. Registration don’t.

I then tryed to deactivate every single plugin & replace my theme for a default wordpress theme (twentyseventen) this option doesnt work either ( with only buddypress at first, then only buddypress & Postman )

Any idea what i could try? Thx in advance!

Boone howzit bud! 🙂 Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated!!!

I went into my cpanel, fortunately these guys I’m hosting with have auto saves on and I could restore my site to a previous time. WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!! So happy I chose them as my host provider!!!!

There is the fear though that this might occur again!… so running the neglected back up on my side will occur before every plugin installed or major settings change…. discipline is the way forward!

Ok prevention is better than cure right!?

So here goes the story as good as I can explain in my no programmer/developer language…

I was in wordpress… Installing Buddypress… I opened a second browser tab so I can view all the changes etc. that I made tweaking and installing Buddyp. (..aaand gloating cause I actually followed instructions to the letter and it all worked out just peachy!) Buddypress installed even downloaded the fake content plugin to see the end result in all it’s glory.. 🙂

I had to take it just one step further to satisfy this little voice in my head!

To test Buddyp. as a potential new register.

    I logged out as admin….

    Unknowingly
all Sh*t broke loose just then….

I created a new account as a new user… completed in the registration form with a fresh email account… Buddyp. sent me the verify link to my email account.

Clicking on the verify email account link… gave me a – page not found – and re-directed be back to the login up page, once there telling me in red highlight – there is no account with those details…

Frantically entering the new registration details just kept me in the same loop…

Then deciding ok… to use my admin credentials to get back into either Buddyp. or my site backend…

To no avail… admin credentials did not do the trick… I was locked out completely…!

My std WordPress email credentials meant squat!

My main concern is, I need to to fix this…
I a new user register with my site the same think will occur to them…

Being redirected back to the login and password block after clicking and confirming their email address….

I am not sure how to fix this!

    I hope this makes sense… ?

Once again… thank you for the response to help out… would you know how to fix said issue?

    Regards

    W

Does anyone know if BuddyPress is compatible with Woo Commerce memberships if I do NOT have a store or e-commerce component? I’m using wordpress/buddypress with a BuddyBoss theme for an online community where members will pay a small monthly subscription fee. My BuddyPress install came with Woo Commerce, but it looks to me like Woo might be only appropriate for store components. I just need to charge a monthly membership fee via Stripe, protect all pages except Home and a few marketing pages, and I need the ability to add additional custom registration form fields. Sorry, I know this is also somewhat of a Woo questions, but since my BuddyPress came with Woo, I hope its ok to ask this question here. I’ve already tried Paid Memberships Pro and Restrict Content Pro, but neither of them work well with Buddypress (billing works, but page protection doesn’t).

@almostsultry – It depends on your setup. By default, on Multisite, WP user objects are not created at ‘bp_core_signup_user’. By default, on non-Multisite, users *are* created at the time of registration (ie ‘bp_core_signup_user’). This behavior may be modified by other plugins, especially those that interact with the login process (like SSO plugins). To test whether ‘bp_core_signup_user’ will work for you, take @shanebp’s code from above, and at the time of signup, examine whether $user_id is populated at this point. If not, it’ll be false. If so, it’ll be an integer, which you can safely use.

Do *not* depend on incremented values, because BP (on Multisite) generates users in the order in which they are *activated*, not registered.

Following the flow of bp-members-screens, I can’t quite find a hook where I can add an action that can get the userID of the registering user. I am doing an automated signup to another system in parallel with this system, but I need to know that userID for it to work.

    Please advise,
    Benjamin

We’ve used BuddyPress internally at my company and for client’s over the years and it has worked fine.
If you want a Good UI/UX, get a premium buddypress theme. Check the folk at BuddyBoss.
