In reply to: buddypress + p2 theme
Jason Pelker
ParticipantI recommend the Post Haste WP plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posthaste/ to replicate some of the functionality of P2, but having the advantage of theme portability.
It took me weeks to find it, but I think it’s pretty great.

KeymasterI’d argue that if you had things you wanted to put into a bp-custom.php file, then creating the new files would not prove a problem.

ParticipantYou aren’t going to get much, if any, response without bp version info, what theme you are using and a link to your site.

ParticipantHey all,
I posted briefly earlier, but I’ve now got something a bit more worthwhile to show you all

It’s a heavily modified version of a BuddyDress theme.
The Game Studies Network is a project from the University of Wyoming focusing on bringing together academics, students, researchers, and developers in the areas of new media and interactive media. We’re hoping to become something of a new media think tank.
Take a look and let me know what you think

Thanks everyone!

ParticipantFirst off Jeff thanks for the help!
The themes are in the correct place as you have indicated above. The BPHome theme is located in the wp-content/themes directory to feed the main site.
When I did the install it didnt produce a .htaccess file. So I tried creating my own. Does this provide any insight?

ParticipantMake sure you have the bpmember theme in the proper place: /wp-content/bp-themes/
Then, make sure you have it selected in WPMU’s backend by navigating to the BuddyPress menu grouping like this:
BuddyPress > General Settings > Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pagesChoose the “BuddyPress Default Member Theme”.
I took a look at my .htaccess file which currently has the
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
Command to force the server to use php5. When I add the text from the htaccess.dist
Also, concerning the .htaccess file. It will automatically be created for you during the WPMU install. So, if you went to it and did not see anything, then something went wrong with the install. Why did you have to add the text from htaccess.dist to your .htaccess file?

KeymasterHey yairnazz,
Add this to your /bp-themes/bpmember/style.css
body {background:#fff;}If you do not see a change, try this:
body {background:#fff !important;}July 3, 2009 at 5:18 am #48454In reply to: How to substitute my logo for [socialnetwork]
talk2manoj
Participant1. To change “socialnetwork” on home page
Go to -> wp-content -> themes -> bphome -> images -> logo.gif
Replace logo.gif
2. To change “socialnetwork” on members page
Go to -> wp-content -> bp-themes -> bpmember -> images -> logo.gif
Replace logo.gif
July 3, 2009 at 4:16 am #48451In reply to: BP Signature Profile plugin
r-a-y
KeymasterOne way of doing this is to create a new textarea profile field entitled “Signature” and call it within each BP component you want to use it in.
I know one of the BP mods, John James Jacoby, does this for one of his BP sites, specifically the bbPress forums (eg. a forum thread – http://delsolownersclub.com/discussions/topic/what-will-your-next-mugen-part-be), but I believe he only uses it for the bbPress forums and nowhere else across that BP site.
However, I don’t think it would be *too* hard to call it within the group forums and the wire (I say *too* hard with a little skeptism! hehe). You just would need to edit your BP theme in a number of places to do so.

David Mazza
ParticipantIf you want something like mine: http://sunysb.net/members/davidmazza/profile
I think I just edited the profile loop and a lot of css in the member theme. All of that will be in the member theme. But I started with the skeleton, which I actually had to strip down even more, and then build it up a bit.

rockypersaud
ParticipantI had this problem too… did everything right per the instructions — but I solved it! I was upgrading from a version (1.0b1) where the structure was mainly in the mu-plugins folder. After upgrading database must have still pointed to that location, and so after I deleted the buddypress files in mu-plugins, it gave me the error message.
All I did to solve it was go to Buddypress -> General Settings and selected the skeleton BP theme, saved settings, then selected the default BP theme, saved settings. I assume that fixed the entry in the database.

You basically need to look at bp-themes/bpmember/

KeymasterI’m almost positive this is a bug in FF3.5 and it’s understanding of shorthad “font” declarations.
This is fixed in the latest default themes in 1.0.2.
This is what you need to do:
Find the “html {” declaration in the CSS files, and look for the “font:” part. Delete it and replace it with this:
font-size: 11px;
font-family: "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Sans", Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;Then find the “body {” declaration, and replace the “font” part with:
font-size: 12px;Do the same in both your WordPress and BuddyPress theme.

ParticipantJust cleared the cache. Now the fonts look bigger than they should normally be. Yep, the site looks nicer in IE8 & Chrome
. But this is really serious. Can someone fix this on priority? please?
PS: Shall I upgrade the theme on my 1.0 bp installation? Will it work?

KeymasterBest way to do this would be to integrate the P2 theme into your user blogs.
Ahh yes! Totally forgot about the P2 theme, John!
https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/p2
I forget if P2 puts a character limit on post entries like Twitter.

Also I did some digging just now and the WPMU plugin that John and I are talking about is the “Menus” plugin by dsader:

KeymasterJust read over your post again and you say you want to eliminate the entire backend? Off the top of my head, I don’t know if that’s possible.
Best way to do this would be to integrate the P2 theme into your user blogs.
Otherwise, I know there is a WPMU plugin out there to help limit the admin side bar’s available links. If you manually navigate to the page you can still get to them, but it hides the options from view.
July 1, 2009 at 11:49 pm #48389jodyw1
ParticipantWhat’s actually interesting is I believe there was an image posted a few weeks back showing that something like this blog idea was part of the first mock-ups for BP.
I spent some time creating a theme for blogs that would look like the rest of my site, to at least give the appearance of a closely integrated blog if not the actual function of one.

ParticipantThanks for replying but that is not what i mean as i said in my original post “im not talking about that gray bar that originally says buddypress in the left corner and is gray”. im talking about the orange bar right under it in the original buddypress theme. Some more advice would be helpful, thank you!
