In reply to: Custom Profile Fields not shown on members profiles
Roger Coathup
ParticipantBuddyPress profile fields do show by default when you visit a profile. So, it sounds like either your theme, or a plugin is causing the problem.
Did you create your profile fields from the BuddyPress menus in wp-admin?
The most likely candidate for the problem sounds like the plugin you are using to add buttons and maps to the user profiles.
Try deactivating that plugin – do the profile fields show?
Try switching to bp-default theme – do the profile fields show?
If they are still not showing — deactivate all your plugins except BuddyPress, use the default theme, and go to the Profile Fields section in wp-admin … are they definitely set up correctly in there? Are privacy settings correct? Do the profile fields show now in the front end?
By breaking your search down for a solution step by step like this, you’ll be able to determine what is causing the problem (your theme or one of your plugins).

MemberDid this end well? Are we talking about Mystique version 3+ or the 2.something version?
With these instructions i get eg: domain.com/register full load of theme but empty page/post page or domain.com/index.php/register stripped CSS version but registration of BP appears
(checked nginx rules, also default BP theme works like a charm)

Participant@mercime, I found something interesting…
So I created a page called “test”. While I was creating the page, I noticed in the Page Attributes that there are three options: Default Template, BuddyPress – Activity Directory, and Sidebar Template.
When I saved as Activity Directory, the page showed up like my members page with the sidebar under the content. When I saved as Sidebar Template, the sidebar showed up correctly like it does on the homepage. When I tried to save as Default Template, I got a 406 error.
Is my thinking wrong that when BuddyPress created the members pages, it saved them as Default Template as it had no way of knowing that there were options for the page saves?
The even more strange part is when I go into the BuddyPress created Members Page, I can save as Sidebar Template and BuddyPress – Activity Directory, but no matter what it’s saved at, it doesn’t change. The looks of the design stays the same. (Also, I think that the “default template” is just the Activity Directory template.)
So, I have no clue on what to do. I can’t seem to save/change the Page Attributes of the BuddyPress created pages.
Also, I’ve noticed that with the most recent WordPress update, I’ve been getting more and more 406 errors. Is this something I should contact my hosting company about?
Thanks.

ParticipantSo I have managed to list all of the profile fields by including the edit.php file from my buddypress theme.
I have then tried to trick the $bp object into looking like its setup for the profile component and edit action by setting the follow items like so:
`$bp->current_action = ‘edit’;
$bp->current_component = ‘profile’;
$bp->displayed_user->ID = $user_id;
$bp->displayed_user->userdata = $bp->loggedin_user->userdata;`How do I get the fields to populate with the current users data?

ParticipantIt depending on the theme you are using.
If you have google chrome, right click on the numbers and select ‘inspect element’, you will see the css properties that style the numbers.. something like this:
div.item-list-tabs ul li a span {
background: #1FB3DD;
-moz-border-radius: 3px;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
border-radius: 3px;
color: white;
display: inline;
font-size: 90%;
margin-left: 2px;
padding: 1px 6px;
}Chrome will tell you what file the rule is in and the line number.

MemberHello Mercime,
Thanks for your input. As I stressed, I was trying to give constructive criticism. I meant no harm!
I work with DVD/BD authoring, and FCP editing – this is where I can help out others (and I do. Also very generously. And I do know all about the way forums work
). In this area I’m relying on others, and as our support guy was out of reach, I had a very critical breakdown situation on my hands yesterday.It didn’t make sense to me, that Roger spent time writing that I shouldn’t make identical threads, without at least – in the same post? – writing a line in response to me having followed his original advice. Anyone could probably tell that this double thread was a desperate action on my behalf, for which I apologized promptly.
I’ve been very careful trying to describe what I have on my hands here – If you read my first post, you’ll see that I can’t access the admin panel (so I CAN’T change to default theme!). And if you read the posts after Rogers input, you’ll see that deleting the buddypress plugin didnt help – in other words I still cant access my admin panel. And the entire wordpress site is down.
I respect everyones time! I value (very highly!) what I get from any forum! And I give knowledge back (in my field of expertise)! In this case it seems that because I offended someone, I was excluded. Everyone makes mistakes. I was corrected. And I stated my opinion about forum behaviour.
I’m in over my head. And getting more frustrated by this forum. I thank you for your time – I do appreciate your help. But I’m gonna have to wait for my support guy to return. Thanks.

Participant@chrfriis Know that all of us helping out in the forums are unpaid volunteers living in different time zones and under no obligation to follow up with or respond to a question. In other words, we have lives outside of BuddyPress and WordPress. Roger has always been generous with his time in helping out in these forums. And if the suggestions given you didn’t work, then you should take the initiative to find out other solutions yourself.
Change to default theme, then when you can access wp-admin, change back to your customized theme. Roger mentioned this above but you haven’t posted whether you’ve done it or not.

@mercime
Participant== Remove Community ==
@stevenz It’s one of two things, at least.
1. Custom menu has not been configured, a page named “Community” was created and then made the Parent Page of the “Members” page. So delete the “Community” page in dashboard.
2. In Appearance > Menus, you made a custom menu and placed Members page under Community
== add a sign in widget on the left side? ==
Left side of what? Doesn’t that theme have an options panel where you can opt to change which sidebar appears on which side?

MemberJust before I read this, I changed my theme to the final one I’ll use (Arras Theme with the Classical Gamer child theme : http://arrastheme.com/ )
Your second solution worked well, but now I have an empty bar as wide as the admin bar just under the real admin bar, here is a pic :
http://puu.sh/IhLa
It’s just the top of the page, I think it’s clear enough
In any way, thank you for your solutions and explanations. I can’t wait for BP 1.6, I may even test the 1.6 beta to see how it’s integrated, I’m very interested by this

Participant@edgarestradac what’s on line 201 of your header-buddypress.php file? As I mentioned above :
This could be tricky, but let’s give it a try.
because I suspected there would be a conflict when I saw the code of your theme files
I deleted the most possible conflicts in both the header-buddypress.php and the sidebar-buddypress.php files in the instructions above. Just delete the codes in both files where I added above:
`[ DELETE FROM HERE ]
// some code
[ DELETE UP TO THIS LINE ONLY ]`

Participant@blinkybill01 there’s a get_sidebar call in index.php and none in page.php, Did you want a/another sidebar in your BP template pages? Better yet, could you create a new Page called Test and link it here so I can see what’s up with your theme’s pages?

Participant@mahdiar Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you will be only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to make the BP templates compatible with your theme.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your complete theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.

ParticipantOnce you’ve done that:
1. Ideally, set up a test environment and try your BuddyPress install / related dev on there first
2. De-activate all your other plugins before activating BuddyPress — it’s likely a clash with one of them
3. Set the theme to the default for now (you can change to yours later)
4. If that all works, activate each plugin in turn to find the clash
5. Finally, switch to your themeJuly 13, 2012 at 3:55 pm #137261In reply to: activate member from admin

ParticipantHello,
for 1.5.x versions of BP you can add this piece of code in your wp-config.php
`define( ‘BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR’, true );`
or add these function to your theme functions.php file if the above doesn’t work.
`function remove_bp_adminbar(){
remove_action( ‘wp_footer’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar’, 8 );
remove_action( ‘admin_footer’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar’);
show_admin_bar(true);
}
add_action(‘after_setup_theme’,’remove_bp_adminbar’);
?>`or you may wait for BP 1.6 where BP’s adminbar will be integrated in WP’s one.

Participant@newpress We’ve discussed you pushing this app newpress and I stated that it wasn’t really appropriate on this support forum. On this thread the OP is asking about BP themes and others have responded with some ideas, Oxwall is NOT a BP theme it is not even related to BP or WP so please stop mentioning it on this forum, thanks.

ModeratorThe default theme uses https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_the_date so that would be a good spot for starting to modify that. It uses your set date and time format in WordPress under settings so you can modify that there and it will reflect on the theme.
“Default: the date_format option (‘Date Format’ on Settings > General panel)”

Participant@blinkybill01 99% of the time, it’s different instructions for different themes because of the variety of HTML structures/template tags..
== The theme I’m using, and it’s subject to change, is called “The Secret World” ==
Are you going to change your theme or shall we proceed with the compatibility process?
