ParticipantYes @BooneGorges has it correct.
I forgot to add that i removed the WordPress that i had with Buddypress 1.5 and manually started again with a fresh install. i went over to WordPress.org and download the Buddypress version 1.2.10
Previously everything buddypress 1.2.9 was like before. no “add a reply” was visible.
But before i added Buddypress 1.2.10 i just checked with the default WordPress theme twenty eleven.
I selected sample page as my homepage and sure enough “add a reply” was visible. So that’s where i get the feeling that the buddypress default theme is acting as a regular wordpress theme.September 21, 2011 at 7:36 pm #120496In reply to: Moving the navigation menu to left side..

ParticipantHoping for a reply i downgraded to 1.2.10 and th sample page looks like before edit this entry, and there is no “add a reply” like on buddypress 1.5 default theme. So i am assuming default buddypress 1.5 theme is acting as a wordpress theme. Please please please tell me what i can do or is there going to be a fix?

ParticipantWhat theme do you have activated?
September 21, 2011 at 5:36 pm #120468In reply to: Moving the navigation menu to left side..
@mercime
ParticipantCreate a bp-default Child theme. In your child theme’s style.css file, add these:
#navigation { text-align: left; } #nav { left: auto; margin: 40px 0 0 20px; }EDIT – took too long to answer

Participant@karmatosed I thought perhaps the more native solution will be easier in updating and so, plus, I don’t know exactly how to accomplish your solution, you mean like creating a child theme and editing the index.php? BTW, do you know if there is a shortcode for buddypress register like the ones in bbpress?
@djpaul I hoped the one who actually added the redirect see this topic, great you did
will wait your update.September 21, 2011 at 5:11 pm #120463echoman
Participant@ islandcastaway i tried but was unsuccessful. It seem like all the buddypress themes do the same. with the sample page. as before on the previous buddypress 1.2 i would set the sample page as static frontpage and would only see edit this entry.
@Paul Gibbs Yes, when i make the sample page as the static front page it would show add a reply.
From what I’ve read from the link islandcastaway posted it’s seems that the pages “sample page” is acting as a wordpress theme instead of a buddypress theme page.September 21, 2011 at 5:08 pm #120462In reply to: when setting ” register ” page as the homepage

ModeratorI’d probably turn this upside down though rather than doing under settings > reading I’d have a home.php in your theme that depending on if logged in user or not directs to a different template page. Should accomplish the same thing but gives you more granular control.

ParticipantI’m getting an error on your site because you have my_bp_groups_forum_first_tab delcared in both bp-custom.php and functions.php. Go ahead and remove it from one (probably functions.php for now) because you will get a PHP error since you have the same function name trying to load twice. FYI, the bp-custom.php file is for anything BuddyPress related, where the functions.php file is just for the theme.
Once it’s working try it when you are not both logged in and on a public group. The if statements in there require that you either be a member of the group or the group be public, so it’s possible it was working but you didn’t see it if you were logged in (probably as the admin) and had not officially joined that group.

ParticipantHello,
You will need to edit the “home page” and turn off comments for that page http://www.blog.web6.org/disable-comments-wordpress-3-1-tutorial/
or you will need to make a custom page in your themes template folder to not include the comments section.

ParticipantI’ve not noticed any delay in any of my BuddyPress sites. Perhaps it’s just a coincidence with the particular ones you’ve been visiting?
As for Custom Community – you’ll need to do a few things. Make sure you’ve added widgets to the sidebar in the WordPress Dashboard and also make sure the sidebar is being called properly in the theme template files – such as sidebar.php, homepage.php (or frontpage.php or something similar). Also make sure the the CSS files in the theme are positioning the sidebar to the left of the content. Do you have link you can share?

ModeratorI would be fairly sure that theme would get an update however I’d also suggest making sure your theme and plugins are 1.5 ready before taking leap (may be like asking you to close door after horses bolted though
).No worries though worst case I’d suggest the default theme for a short while until the update and that’s had a huge refresh for 1.5 so well worth checking out.

ParticipantOK… I’ll wait and see if the theme I’m using (Simple WP Community Theme 1.6) gets an update by the creator. Thanks for the response!

ModeratorThe default theme only has sidebar and 4 footer widget areas – if you had more it would be a custom theme I’m assuming not the default theme. I can’t off top of my head think if this was different in past default theme but if anything we didn’t have footer widgets so may have just been sidebar.

ModeratorI assume they would be planning an update. If they don’t you can always merge the template pack for BuddyPress with the theme – not a small task if you don’t know code / feel comfortable though.

ParticipantYeah, it is strange. When I go to ‘widgets’ even on the default theme… There’s only one sidebar. The other options are for ‘footer widget area’s….
Does everyone else have this?
Like I said, there used to be two sidebars… (in the widget area config)

ParticipantTested on the default theme and the problem goes away, so definitely theme-related. Will have to see if Woothemes can suggest a workaround.

KeymasterI’m not sure how updating core would affect your custom theme… unless you had made the changes to the theme inside the buddypress directory, which would have been overridden with the upgrade.

ModeratorDid you update that theme to the (if it has one) BuddyPress 1.5 version? I’m a thinking if you didn’t my theory over scripting could be the problem. Doesn’t ‘overly’ solve the how it’s working now but lets just consider that a positive

ModeratorAre you using BuddyPress 1.5 – I ask as it would mean checking you are using the template pack for this latest version.
The process for the template pack is if it has file permissions it will put files in correct places – if it doesn’t you do. I assume you went through a manual one (ie; adding in yourself) however it seems perhaps you didn’t put them in the structure they were listed in the pack. / would be in this case the root or bottom folder of your theme ie; themename/

Tammie Lister
ModeratorIt may depend on the theme you are using (some can be a little troublesome over this) but I just did a sanity check on the default 1.5 BuddyPress theme and all is well there with setting the front page as activity stream.
What I did was this:
1. Go to settings > reading
2. Front page displays – select a static page
3. Front page: select activitySave and should work for you.
September 21, 2011 at 1:29 pm #120415Tammie Lister
ModeratorI’m a thinking something squiffy is up with either another plugin or theme or browser cache on that one then. It would be using scripting for the drag and drop so perhaps that’s what is sticking.
Did you try using firebug or even the default BuddyPress 1.5 theme with no other plugins and browser cache cleared? Just trying to level the playing field.
That said if it works now you probably can’t test but worth noting for future maybe.
