I actually wrote this for the “Is bp dying a slow death?” thread, but I could not send it, the thread was closed before.
I have build my first child theme for buddypress and tried to check it into the WordPress repository one month ago.
But I did not get any feedback.
After writing to ‘themes at wordpress’ I asked if I did something wrong. I want to learn, so someone should tell me what I need to change. They let me know that my theme is in the Buddypress query and it will be checked soon.
Now it’s already 3 weeks ago and I never got any answer. Could it be that nobody from the Buddypress site feels responsible to accept new themes. I don’t say that my theme is build 100%, but without feedback I won’t improve.
Maybe someone could check the theme?

If you’re just looking for an easy-to-integrate forum for WordPress, try Simple:Press.
If you want to integrate a standalone forum into WordPress, try out bbPress.

To find out if BuddyPress is for you, try out BuddyPress over on the test installation site – http://testbp.org.
Although BuddyPress does have some forum functionality, it is not a dedicated forum script!

    Hope that helps somewhat.

This is the most annoying bug feedback I ever read :

” I have them running on root also on at least three installations with no issues.

If there are other plugins that deal with permalinks that are flushing the rewrite rules (post types, taxonomies, pagination, etc) then they may be conflicting with a recent change in WP core.

Punting to 1.3 since this doesn’t appear to be a BP issue, but probably warrants a closer look later.
    “
I say so, cause I have the problem with a fresh install of wordpress and buddypress without any plugins, so, skipping some bug for later to solve can be understood, but don’t give reasons that make no sense at all.
    Thanks for effort anyway.

I am a new blogger, technology savvy, but not a programmer. I’m using WordPress to develop a new site and want to include a Forum. I dont have a server or any of the programs that are listed in requirements. Is BuddyPress the right direction for me, or is there another avenue I should explore.

    Thank you!

    Hi Guys,

It’s been a while since I’ve been working with buddypress and I’m now doing a new install using WordPress 3.0 and the latest version of buddypress. The install went smoothly except that the link to the Forums page is not working and giving me a 404 page not found. I tried searching for it with no luck. The link to the site is http://dfwsoccer.com/

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Just to add to the troubleshooting, I have changed themes to an out of the box unmodified buddypress theme (not the default but another) and I am still getting the issue. When logged into the admin the images all there come up fine so I don’t think it is related to WordPress, but rather something related to buddypress css or something else in buddypress.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can check out the site at http://sharepointindex.com.

    Thanks,
    David

Hi peeps. I’m having a similar problem, but not sure if its exactly the same thing, my activity page is not the first page, nor do I want it. I’m using a custom theme designed in Artisteer, and the activity is not showing up. If I use the default buddypress theme, then the activity shows up.

    Any ideas?

It’s weird. My site is wordpress 3.0, buddypress 1.2.4 and I wpmu enabled it. So I had a super admin menu which is now gone. I can’t upload or search for plugins any more. All I can do is activate and deactivate them. The site is still definitely running with wpmu though because buddypress is not listed in the plugins. It’s a network pluging but I can’t see and have no access to my network plugins.

    Dear Sirs:

After adding www before our website URL on our WP3 Multisite installation as indicated on the article ”Changing The Site URL” (http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL), using the method ”Changing the URL directly in the database”.

We installed BP 1.2.4.1, finding out that BP Admin Bar were not functioning correctly. When we click on anything in the menu bar under My account, the click takes me to the front page of my site. If click menu bar under My Blog > Blogname > Dashbord we get logout the site.

So we return to change back on the DB our website URL without www in front, and this fix the issue.

Could anybody help us maintain the use of the www and BP ?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Regards,

    Dear Sirs:

We have a few wordpress installations running on WPMU 2.9.2, WP 2.9.2 and WP 3, the WPMU 2.9.2 using Buddypress 1.2.4.1. All with they own DB.

We want to integrate all three installations, in order that user registered in on of them can login with the same user and password to all other.

Is this possible ? Is there a bridge like Joomla-WP and others ?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Regards,

@azreeceli – based on your post, you want to allow your user to post and want to customize the admin dashboard so the user won’t even know that their posting in the back-end by theming the back-end to look like the front-end of the site. That’s is do-able but a lot of work which = paid work.
There’s a way to allow your users to post from the front-end,install Jet QuickPress plugin.https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jet-quickpress/

hi, i have a question about the admin panel

is there any possible way that i can make a new admin panel where there will be two different url.

    For example:
    1. is mywebsite.com/wo-admin (default)
    2. is mywebsite.com/submit <– this is what i want to do

how can i make this possible and what i want is, the user can register just as a contributor and only saw thier profil setting, and create a new post…

No dashboard needed ( i mean, everything is all new look, customised and contirubutor will have no idea that we are on wordpress)

Sorry for my poor english. thanks in advance

@eric, current versions of BP are not WordPress 3.0-ready.

I’ve upgraded a BP 1.1.3-based custom theme to WordPress 3.0. The only problem I’ve found so far is avatars upload, so I guess WP 3.0 changed how it handles avatars?

Can someone point out which change broke the functionality? Were function or hook names changed? Were functions moved to other files? Or something more complicated?

Is this already being worked on for a 1.2+ version? Is there a trac (or whatever it’s called) that I can use as reference to try to fix it in my custom theme?

gPress adds new geo-relevant layers to WordPress, allowing you to create your own location-based services or to keep track of your own personal geo-tagged journies. Even in its beta state, you can presently geo-tag posts using native WordPress Mobile Applications, or create new geo-located places using custom post types, featured images and descriptions, add geoRSS functionality and integrated with BuddyPress and Foursquare…

    Thanks @johnjamesjacoby

@arunbasillal good share. That’s what I’d do to make home page “future-proof” for BP 1.2 series – all bets are off for BP 1.3 :-)

I am running the Buddymatic theme on my WP blog and I was wondering if there was any way to edit the menu. The way it works now, I have two parents: Artist Information and Works, with various pages as childs. However, in the drop down menus, is there any way to make Artist Information and Works not act as a link or bring the user to any page when clicked? Only the drop down sub-pages are links.

Another thing is that I have WordPress show my homepage to the latest posts instead of a static page. However, I can’t seem to find a way to move the By:, Posted On:, etc, text on the page around the content despite looking at the index.php page code.

Any help or advice would be great.

Why dont the WordPress and Buddypress websites share more in terms of user interaction cues, e.g. using forums versus groups etc.

Why is it not easy to clone off other langauge sub-domains and them all share the same layout etc … ? This is also true for WordPress sites.

All Gravatars, including ‘mystery man’ come with an error:

“Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type text/html”

Anyone else getting this? Is there a fix?

… and why on earth are we still using those appalling geometric images!?!?!? They are *so* un-Wordpress or even un-Buddypress.

Agreed – @johnjamesjacoby – I just did this to a second site and took less than 3 minutes to get it working.

    1. Install plugin (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/)
    2. Insert add_filter statements around line 112 of the syntaxhighlighter.php file in the plugin directory

    Easy!

I am getting this error when trying to delete a user… Using latest 1.2x Branch Build 3067 (not 1.2.4.1) and WordPress 3.0.

Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context in /home/musicpln/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-groups/bp-groups-classes.php on line 1053

This happens when pressing the “confirm deletion” button. I have tried this with every plugin disabled except Buddpress and I still get the error. If I turn off the Buddypress plugin, I CAN delete the user as normal….
