    Hello,

I have Buddypress installed on my WordPress MU blog. For the main blog, user avatars show up perfectly. When a user creates a sub blog, however, their avatars disappear. It still recognizes their account, but when I post a comment there is no avatar associated with my account anymore. Instead it just shows the Mystery Man.

Does anyone know why this is happening, and what I need to do to correct it?

@dagicueppers Mostly fixed with WP 2.9.2 by creating pages called Members, Groups, Forums, etc but there are still issues.

I’m now testing everything with WordPress 3.0 RC1 (on a remote Linux server) and oddly enough the same issues arise and, sadly, don’t appear to be solved by the above solution.

I’m having the same problem, fostertime.

    Using BuddyPress with WordPress 3.0-RC2.

    Did you find a solution?

    #81171

Yup I had this problem too. Thanks for the solutions. As with any wordpress issue, remove the plugins and themes (and maybe rename the mu-plugins folder) and things should be back to “normal”. My issue in particular was to do with a plugin in the mu-plugins folder, remember to check that one too!

    @nbishop
Go to your wordpress dashboard – settings – general and make sure that ‘Anyone can register’ is checked next to ‘Membership’

Loving it, will come to great use.

One thing though; isn’t this basically a lightweight, yet 1.2 compatible variety of BpContents?
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bpcontents/

I’ve tried getting in touch with Burt Adsit to no avail, but his code might still be useful?

This guy milordk (https://wordpress.org/support/profile/1487174) updated the events plugin (http://milordk.ru/r-lichnoe/opyt-l/cms/bp-events-dlya-buddypress-1-2-x.html) for buddypress 1.2 It would be cool if developers would join forces and if necessary be willing to accept donations for an awesome events plugin with possibly an iphone version using geoloaction.

@techguy is correct… You have to delete or MOVE/RENAME the wp-content/plugins folder.

In order to rectify this you WILL not be able to go in through WordPress since it’s “bricked”. You will have to go in through a FTP program like FILEZILLA. You may need to get your account information for using FTP from your service provider. Once WordPress doesn’t find the folder, it will automatically de-activated all the plugins and you will be able to get back in.

You can avoid this in the future by disabling all plugins before you disable the Buddypress plugin.

Yeah, I know it is a little backwards, hah. I just like the idea of using wordpress as the UI for my community. Actually, I found something that is pretty close to what I need. It is still being developed, but it looks promising:

    rich! @ etiviti ( @nuprn1 ) –

Have you seen my WordPress Hook Sniffer Plugin? I created it out of necessity to figure out all the BuddyPress hook issues I was having.

I’m running WordPress 2.9.2 and the latest buddypress and I have the same recurring theme. When I install plugins ~90% of the time they appear to be working but in fact have crashed my forum, sometimes I can still access the forum but not the topics, sometimes I just get a blank page. My site is http://www.science2point0.com and my current plugin success rate means that I have 5 plugins active and 25 inactive as they crash the forums. Has anyone else got this problem? Is there a fix? I’m hoping 3.0 may be the answer but I’m starting to get the impression it may just make things worse.

    Any suggestions welcome?

    Thanks.

I’d look into the apache configuration!

@wordpresschina – Thanks for the suggestion, this is exactly what I was looking for. I really do not understand one thing. Why when someone wants to register they get redirected to the Buddypress version of the registration, but when someone wants to login they go to the standard WP login page? Maybe there is something wrong with my install :(

Unfortunately, I am importing very basic information so I am not having the same issues as you. The only “special” info I am importing is for s drop down selecting menu. It should be noted that it does not force matching, meaning if the field requires 1 – 10 and the CSV file has 12, it will import the 12. The import only really matches up the columns. FYI… if you type something wrong in the top row like Website instead of “company website” the import will actually create a new xprofile field.

Hope this helps (or at least answers some questions.

By ‘confused’ do you mean that you haven’t set up the server side proxying? simply enabling the plugin without having re-configured your server is unlikely to do a blind thing!

‘This plugin handles the wordpress/php side of a statically cached nginx-fronted wordpress (or wordpress mu) site,
INSANE performance. Hardware that could generate 6 pages / second can now generate many thousands.
Low resource usage. Even on very busy servers, nginx uses only a handful of RAM.’

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nginx-proxy-cache-integrator/

I’ve enabled it on my Local BP ,but confused on the apache configuration part, however its does what it says?

Guys this is more of a wordpress question but it is for a buddypress problem I am working on. Hopefully someone know the answer to this quick:

Currently if I have Page1 and Subpage2 then the permalink will be:
    http://mysite/Page1/Subpage2

I want to remove the “Page1” from the URL so the permalink would be:
    http://mysite/Subpage2

    Any ideas?

I just recently installed wordpress mu and everything worked, I am still able to access the dashboard through my blog: globalinx-itc.com/Study, however if I try to do anything now after I installed buddypress, for example add a new group or click on anything on the front page, I receive object not found 404 error.

Can you please help me and see if there is something I am doing wrong?

    Thank you so much,

    JOe

After a delay, without responses, I just decided to rebuild the menu as a separate menu in the code for the page.

I still wonder if there is a simple way to integrate WordPress and Buddypress Menu items for future projects
