Hi all,
I’m very new to wordpress and buddypress. I have some questions regarding customizing the Group.
1. Is it possible to change the name from group to something else for example say “project”
2. Is is possible that i can create to different group for example say “project1” and “project2”
3. Is is possible to create a image gallery for the group.
4. Is it possible to add extra text fields and upload fields for example i have a group called project and for that project i want to add “description” “comments” “File upload (i.e .doc, .PDF, PPT) field”please help me in this
To all Mods / Experts,
In the top buddypress.org navigation bar, there are these two tabs “blog” and “community”
“blog” = http://buddypress.org/blog/
“community” = http://buddypress.org/community/How is that configured? My limited knowledge tells me if I install wordpress at mydomain.com/blog then the buddypress components (groups, members etc) will all go under mydomain.com/blog/groups and mydomain.com/blog/members etc
Or there’s two seperate wordpress installation? one at buddypress.org/blog and another at buddypress.org/community?
Advice appreciated. Thanks.
Topic: Yet another splog question…
Hi all,
As are most of us, I’m continually faced with the nuisance of splog signups. My site has not yet gone public, so I’m not deluged with them at the moment. But I do anticipate a day when my site is so popular (one can dream…) that it attracts the sploggers to what they may perceive as a potential link-stuffing goldmine.
We’re faced with 2 types of sploggers – bots & a**holes (sorry, I mean humans). The stubbornly annoying human sploggers will always be around, and will always have to be dealt with by manually deleting and blocking. The upcoming “Report Spam” features/plugins discussed elsewhere in these forums will hopefully help our users join the fight.
That leaves us to deal with the bots. To prevent the plague, I’ve implemented 3 things which, until recently, have worked flawlessly:
1 – Installed WP-Super-Captcha http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/super-capcha/
2 – Created a membership options page where users are directed when clicking any “Signup” link/button (this page must be visited before the register page).
3 – Changed the name/slug of the register page where users are sent when clicking a “Create a free account” link/button (links to the register page are found only on the membership options page). The above had effectively stopped the bots dead in their tracks. But there seems to be now something new in the “enemy’s” arsenal. I’m getting the occasional signup where only the Name (core field) is being filled in – out of three required profile fields in my Base Group.
My question then is double-barreled: does anyone have any idea as to how are “they” getting around “required” fields on the register page, and how that can be prevented?
Hello,
I am making a site for real estate agents for a client that is similar to the site Active Rain, except that it will be free. We originally did not intend this as the vision, so I have been using the newest version of WordPress beta instead of WordPress MU. I installed Buddypress since the documentation seemed to say that normal WordPress installations also support it. While everything seems to be working fine, we eventually started telling people to join up and came to the realization that only my account, the administrator account and the first that was created, was the only account that could login. This is also true for logging into the WP Dashboard. I changed my clients so that they had admin accounts but they could not even in log into the WP Dashboard. I cannot figure out why this is happening.
The users appear on the WordPress dashboard under the User section, so they have definitely created accounts. However, when they try to login nothing happens. When I login, my name and avatar appear as well as an option to logout in the sidebar. As I said, this only works with my account. Under the members page, it says I am the only member, despite the fact that they show up on the WordPress Users page.
Anyone know why this is happening? Is it because I am not using WordPress MU? I only wanted there to be one blog that only Admins can write for, and everyone else who joins does not get a blog but can be named an author by the admin if they write a special feature.
Thanks for your help!
