    To all,

    I have tagged v0.51, which fixes the “cannot modify header” issue.

    https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/oembed-for-buddypress.zip

    You still need to rename the folder from “oembed-for-buddypress” to “bp-oembed”.

    This will be the last release in the 0.5 series.

    —

    Andy P has made some nifty improvements to the plugin. Among other things, no more folder renames and whitelist! Thank you Andy!

    This upcoming version will be v0.6 and will be released when BP 1.2.1 drops early next week.

    Thanks everyone for testing.

    have you tried https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/

    yes..but it also limited to child theme only..not 2 level grandchild theme..well i think

    you can’t expect much since even WP did not support grandchild theme yet..

    thx

    The WordPress theme system loads all template files from either STYLESHEETPATH or TEMPLATEPATH locations.

    Here’s the solution I’m going with. Gets the job done and will work fine until something better comes along.

    Changed text under Site Admin -> Options -> Welcome User Email

    Dear User,

    Your new account is set up.

    You can log in with the username and password you created.

    If you forget your password, visit the following page and click “Lost Your Password?”

    Thanks!

    @emilywebber, thanks for the reply! So, I looked in my WordPress Dashboard Settings (Dashboard > Settings > General) and I don’t have a setting for allowing user registration. I think it was moved in WordPress Multi-User to this menu: Site Admin > Options, where I have these choices:

    * Disabled

    * Enabled. Blogs and user accounts can be created.

    * Only user account can be created.

    * Only logged in users can create new blogs.

    Selecting “Enabled” or “user account can be created” doesn’t fix the issue.

    @Sunset Cowboy, no that didn’t help. The BuddyPress 1.2 theme (appropriately) doesn’t show the link to users who are logged in. Logging out and clicking on the “Create New Account” link still just redirects to the homepage.

    Is there something else I’m missing? Perhaps some other setting? I’m thinking of shutting off BuddyPress and trying to create a new account in just WPMU.

    Thanks,

    K

    r-a-y,

    Upgraded from 1.1.3. Using WordPressMu, so not sure there’s an option for pretty permalinks in Mu

    Should the slugs names be defined by default?

    I am currently suffering from this problem (a) had intensedebate on a non-MU blog, (b) have removed it, (c) have installed buddypress, (d) neither wordpress admin notifications nor buddypress member notifications are being sent.

    @peterverkooijen what exactly did you do when you say “Copying an earlier version of an entire template folder solved the problem”?

    WordPress & MU are merging, so I doubt they’d want to make a special version. Really, the only hurdle here is posting to the blog area from the front end. Most everything else is about to be discovered I think.

    Now I have a suggesstion for Andy and the team, possibly off the wall and out the box…

    Buddypress and WordPress are designed for different user contexts…

    Why doesnt you look into have a special fork of WPMU tailored for BP developed. This version can include BP in its core and also have new look and feel backend, as well as front end widgets that allow most of the sites user interaction to take place from the front end

    There can still be a backend for users which will allow them to customize their space on the site unlike facebook where you are stuck with the ugly vanilla theme all the time. The user backend will only be for really critical and tech savvy tasks and most users could get away with never using it if they don’t want to because of having all the user infterface components like creating pages and posts etc in the front end or in the users “admin bar” ala facebook.

    The reason why I am suggesting this is because people tend to be happy with what they are familiar with. WordPress and WPMU are blogging tools and aren’t really aimed at internet noobs. Thats fine because if you want to setup a blog you are most likely more than just a casual or internet noob and you will have no problem finding your way around the WordPress backend. On the other hand for a lot of people it seems to technical and involved and they would prefer the simpler interaface of facebook that they are used to.

    I have tried to get some people at a student society at my university to use their own blog and domain using a combo of Joomla and WordPress for the blogging component but they lost interest and instead created a group on facebook which everyone flocks around.

    To summarise, since buddypress is aimed at a different kind of user than WordPress ie its for social networking, the casual social user might be put off or struggle with the complexities of WP, so instead of merely inheriting the way in which WP works, what about adapting a WP to make it more suitable for social networking and make it a more attractive platform for micro communities.

    Good idea, stupid idea? what do you guys think

    Buddypress 1.2 and WordPressMU 2.9.1

    In my Buddypress child theme, I want to have different CSS for different sections like the Member profile. Perhaps I want to have a slightly different head graphic as well.

    I have copied the header.php to my child theme and have attempted to use if statements along with Template tags but to no effect.

    <?php if( bp_is_front_page() ){ ?>
    <link rel='stylesheet' href='wp-content/themes/coffeehouse/large-masthead.css' type='text/css' media='screen' />
    <?php } ?>

    <?php if(bp_is_group_members() ){ ?>
    <link rel='stylesheet' href='../wp-content/themes/coffeehouse/large-masthead.css' type='text/css' media='screen' />
    <?php } ?>

    @modemlooper

    I was using Posthaste on my 1.1.3 install and had it working perfectly for my groupblogs. I took my buddypress theme and removed home.php and used that for the group blog theme and I did what was in this link to remove it from automatically adding itself to the loop and instead I just placed the code to place the form at the top of my theme right inside the content container and it worked perfectly. You were able to post articles to that blog from the top of the page and using viper’s video quicktags, you could embed videos in there as well. Here’s the link that gave me the code to manually place the posthaste form instead of having it auto placed.

    I just updated Buddypress and found my theme Arclite was not working properly on the home page. Admin bar was missing and a lot of the widgets weren’t working.

    I use WordPress MU – up-to-date – and clicked on a members blog whom uses the theme and all looks good there – layout, widgets, etc and the admin bar is there.

    Switched to default budypress theme and still no admin bar.

    Don’t know exactly what I did wrong?

    Looking for something like P2 theme?

    There’s already a plugin for this purpose.

    MrMaz’s next version of BP Links will be the definitive media embedding plugin for BP!

    My plugin just utilizes what WordPress already has; it doesn’t do all the cool stuff MrMaz’s plugin does!

    Running BP1.2 with single-user WP 2.9.1. Not sure if this is a WP or BP issue, or both, but I have checked for plugins related to both and can’t find a satisfactory solution to this issue.

    1) I would like WordPress to log the IP Address and Country of origin of all new user registrations and have that listed in the WP admin / users area. Then the ability to search or categorize Users in the WP user admin area. The reason this becomes an issue for BP is that BP means I’ll be running a Forum with tens of thousands of users. In the past, I’ve had thousands of bogus signups to forums by would-be spammers, and while I’m working on this new installation to block such registrations in the first place, if they happen I’d like to be able to search or categorize users to make it easier to mass-delete spammers.

    2) Is it possible to show in the WP admin the number of BP forum posts or replies for each user in addition to the number of blog posts (which are only applicable to a few users in my case)?

    Usage example: Many spammer IP addresses resolve to the country of Afghanistan. If I could sort the users by Country and by number of Posts, I could quickly delete all users whose registration says “Afghanistan” and who have only posted zero or one time.

    Anybody know of a plugin or plugins that will accomplish the above? Thanks.

    Running BP 1.2 with WP 2.9.1 single-user. Ok, I’m working to clarify this family of issues related to Forum / Activity stream integration:

    1) When deleting posts in the Activity stream, they are not deleted in the Forum. Any way to accomplish this? It used not to work in the other direction either (deleting Topics/replies in Forum was not deleting them in the Activity stream), but this has finally been fixed with the final release of BP1.2 (see http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/forum-topic-delete-doesnt-delete-activity-feeds ).

    2a) If a user posts a reply to a Topic in the Forum, it shows up in the Activity stream, as it should. But if a user replies to a forum Topic or Topic Reply in the Activity Stream, it doesn’t show up in the Forum.

    2b) You can “reply to a reply” to a Topic in the Activity stream, which is then threaded, but you cannot “reply to a reply” to a Topic in the Forum itself.

    2c) For any replies to a post in the Activity Stream, an email notifier is sent to the creator of the post being replied to, but for replies to the same post in the Forum, an email notifier is not sent.

    3) You can “Favorite” a post in the Activity stream, but you can’t “Favorite” that same post in the Forum. (See my trac ticket — http://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1883)

    There seems to be a split personality going on between the Forum and the Activity stream, and I’m looking for ways to close the gap. This, I believe, is precisely the function of Buddypress, to merge WordPress with bbPress and add new social networking features.

    Basically, it’s a one-way street from the Forum to the Activity stream, and I’m looking for a way of making it a two-way street, so that anything you do in the Activity stream shows up at the source in the Forum. Adding the Activity stream feature of threaded replies to the Forum would be great as well — if you can have these threaded conversations in the Activity stream, why not in the Forum too, where it should be more full-featured?

    You should be able to create custom member types within WordPress. Define custom roles, there are lots of docs on doing this.

    BuddyPress child themes will now work with the WordPress theme repository. Please make sure your theme has a “buddypress” tag before uploading.

    You can upload your theme here (log in to WordPress.org first):

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/upload/

    By adding your theme to the repository, users can automatically install your theme from their dashboard. You can also provide automatic updates by uploading a new version to the repository. You’ll also get stats, and everyone loves stats. :)

    I think sitewide tags (also activities) would be great …

    e.g. pointing on tag “wordpress” i see every blogpost tagged with “wordpress”, every user, that have the tag “wordpress” on its profile, every activity and every forumpost tagged with “wordpress”.

    Thanks, mark. That’s what I needed.

    Andy, the problem is that the More Privacy Options plugin adds new privacy levels, like on wordpress.com and the Activity Stream doesn’t recognise those. It only knows about Searchable/Not Searchable ‘privacy’ options (I’ve never understood why blocking search engines is referred to as ‘private’ – I think it’s misleading).

    Right in the WordPress Themes folder like Modemlooper said. That is a good read to understand child themes
