Topic: Forum, not bbpress
bbpress is just pointless in the actual structure of Buddypress. too complicated, not enough features for groups, feeds, attachments, feeds…
it’s not a proof of competitivity to keep it included in BP.
wordpress already have everything for a forum, just not the design/redesign…
if we could, by the usage of BP make a blog into a forum, with access to user levels etc, i think it could be fun, i would personally invest in it.
Last year after version 1.0, Andy Peatling gathered together a “wish list” of features for BuddyPress and put together a poll. That poll let everyone vote on those ideas, and the feedback helped prioritise development in versions 1.1 and 1.2.
And now we’re doing it again.
In this ‘Ideas’ forum, please tell us what features or enhancements you want to see in future versions of BuddyPress.
- Please make one post per idea.
- If you agree with someone else’s idea, reply to that post.
In a timeframe yet to be determined, I will then read each idea, make a big list, and take it into a future BuddyPress developer chat. We’ll pick the best and the most important ideas, and then we’ll put it up on a poll for you to vote on.
So, help shape BuddyPress’ future through 2010.
I’m having some serious difficulties upgrading or installing 1.2! One problem is that once I do get the plugin to install and activate correctly, I can’t post updates. My error log says something like:
WordPress database error Field ‘mptt_left’ doesn’t have a default value for query INSERT INTO wp_bp_activity (
Surely enough, BP_Activity_Activity->save() doesn’t pass the mptt_left and _right fields, which can’t be null in the database.
Simply making these null in the db, or correcting bp-activity/bp-activity-classes.php:75 to:
$q = $wpdb->prepare( "INSERT INTO {$bp->activity->table_name} ( user_id, component, type, action, content, primary_link, date_recorded, item_id, secondary_item_id, hide_sitewide, mptt_left, mptt_right ) VALUES ( %d, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %d, %d, %d )", $this->user_id, $this->component, $this->type, $this->action, $this->content, $this->primary_link, $this->date_recorded, $this->item_id, $this->secondary_item_id, $this->hide_sitewide, $this->mptt_left, $this->mptt_right );does the trick. However, I can’t find any further complaints about the issue, which is puzzling given the severity of it, so my question is, is anyone having this problem too? If so I’ll submit this to trac
Hi,
I just installed BuddyPress on WordPress 2.9.2, and I used the theme compatibility plugin to fix the theme for bp. The problem is, the URL for the profile page is like /members/Dennis Pedrie/profile/.
It redirects me back to the home page. Going to /members/ works fine.
Thanks
Topic: forum post links = follow
when member post links in forums, it is showing up without nofollow.

Topic: user's name showing slash
name = george d’antoni
Groups > Members
shows as george d’antoni (slash after d)
latest poster also shows george d’antoni (slash \ after d)

I just upgraded to the latest buddypress and started using the new default theme.
My problem is that the default homepage shows the latest blog posts in the root blog rather than the activity stream. Is there a way to correct this? I am not able to find any way to do this.
Buddypress: 1.2
Wordpress: 2.9.1
Theme: BuddyPress Default 1.2
Hello,
We use dsader’s More Privacy Options plugin (http://wpmudev.org/project/More-Privacy-Options) on our install, which is pretty common, I think. I’ve noticed that users with their blogs set to one of the privacy options provided by this plugin, still have posts show up in the activity stream.
I know from past experience, (http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/10008) that it may mean just a simple edit to exclude all blogs that are not set to ‘public’, but I’m not sure where to make this change.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you
Hey gang,
Here’s the oEmbed plugin that I’ve been working on for BP:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/oembed-for-buddypress/
BP Group: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/oembed-for-buddypress
I’ve only tested this on WPMU 2.9.1.1 and BP 1.2. But it should work on single WP as well. Hope it works for you!
Please list any bugs you come across.
*This plugin would not exist without the coding expertise of Viper007Bond, who created the WP_oEmbed class. Props go out to him first and foremost.
