Hi All,

I am new to wordpress and BP please excuse my stupidity.

I just installed 2.8.4a version of WordPress MU and then i installed latest buddy press as per the instructions on

Installation

But I am getting Error 404 – Not Found on every link I am clicking on menu bar.

Can anybody provide any pointers.

Please help.

I try to build a child theme based on the parent.

If I use bloginfo() http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/bloginfo it give back the location from the parent theme.

I would like to get back the child theme I’m using.

My be a stupid question. But I do not know how to do it.

Most of all I need a way to get the child theme info from:

bloginfo(‘template_url’)

bloginfo(‘stylesheet_url’)

I tried reading through and searching the forum before posting this. Unfortunately there isn’t a detailed description of everything for BP like the WordPress Codex, its a bit frustrating. Reading through the code usually works but that takes a lot of time and coffee

I have been playing around with the integrated forum and I don’t like the way you have to associate forums with groups and stuff. I want to have something like this forum on this site, like the standard forum structure you get.

A forum with a root thread in which categories can be made and child threads can be started. Like what Vbulletin, Phpbb and SMF et al has.

What I am trying to figure out is if its possible to do this with the integrated forums or should I go to the standalone Bbpress installation.

Hello –

I’m currently trying to get BP 1.1 / WPMU 2.8.4 working with a standard WordPress Theme for the

root blog and use the BP theme for any BP related activity. Pretty much the way it worked in

1.0 etc. We are set up to use sub-directories and are running in a CentOS environment. I have followed the instructions listed here:

I’ve tried the following options:

Integrating the New BP 1.1 Themes with our WP theme following Andy’s instructions.

Unfdortunately the end result will display the BP functions, but it’s a mess.

We then tried a secondary blog and updating our wp-config.php to repoint BP_ROOT_BLOG.

This option functions, but the user accounts seem to be relative to the secondary blog not the

root blog.

So, we would like to get compatibility mode working ala BP 1.0. I have searched the threads

and docs to get a clear set of insturctions on what needs to be done. But I am getting

conflicting results.

I assume I need the /wp-content/bp-themes directory to keep compatiibility mode active.

do I still perform the moves of bp-default and bp-sn-parent? As for the template files

to move to my WP theme are they just: optionsbar.phpâ€, â€œuserbar.phpâ€ and â€œplugin-template.phpâ€

or do need all the subdirectories from bp-sn-parent?

And lastly, should I be upgrading to BP 1.1.1 at this point?

it’s not hard: the plugin still exist.

And works with 1.1 new forum integration. Even if not necessary because latest post appearing in the side wide activity. So the plugin is only interesting if you don’t use SWA or if you use a custom homepage or an external bbpress install…

If you use it, don’t forget to set the right DB table prefix in the plugin option (default is bb_, but now it’s wp_bb_)

select the forum you want to exclude, enter connection infos and that’s it !

Why don’t you try it youself?

Because I know it’s on the roadmap, I think for version 1.3 – and I’m not really a programmer.

Maybe taking feedwordpress as starting point could save Andy and others some time?

I’ll look into this myself when I upgrade to 1.1, which is going to be a mess with all the amateurish hacking I’ve done…

Ya. Haven’t played with them but it’s a cool idea. I assume it allows you to do “stuff” at those points in the code… i.e… run / insert something at those locations in the templates using a functions.php file. Pretty cool. WordPress has them as well.

I want to know how to get the forum activated and get it at the front page of my WordPressmu/buddypress site? Im new to this and want to make a small community where people can get an account, login, write at a message board(forum), see a memberlist, make a group and communicate in the group.

How do I do this? At first I thought it would be easy, but now I dont! Help please!

I found the upgrade instructions to be incorrect for older versions of BP to be upgraded. Not exactly sure which version I was running, pre1.0 I guess.. buddypress was in “mu-plugins” (that’s where we were supposed to put it back in the day right??)

Anyways, I could not find anyway to “deactivate buddypress” – maybe I’m losing my mind.

So I got stuck on that part.

I decided to backup my install, then delete all the buddypress files / folders I had in “mu-plugins”, then upgraded wordpressmu to 2.8.4a – then uploaded newer buddypress into “plugins” – so far seems to work, not sure if I lost anything, or if I would lose anything doing this on my other buddypress site.

Any suggestions?

I suggest a not in the upgrade instructions for anyone attempting and older bpress version upgrade.

Topic: Page Title in Browser Always says "Blog"

I am using WPMU v2.8.4 and BP v1.1.1, my site is: ConnorGrady.com.

On all of the pages that I have created through the WordPress backend, the page title displayed in the browser and of course on search engines is always “Blog” for all of them. Even though the page title may be “Games” for example, the title given to the browser will still be “Blog”. Is there a way to make that show the actual name of the page?

I’m using feedwordpress, but this requires users to create blogs.

What I’m looking for is external blogs plugin which Andy wrote for groups. That is exactly what I want, and suppose what most of us on this discussion is looking for.

Wouldn’t this plugin cover what we need?

It seemlessly merges posts from an RSS feed with other posts in your blog. If there was a way to selectively offer this plugin to member blogs, that would solve it for me.

And perhaps some integration with Buddypress account areas to make it more idiot-proof; a field where members can enter their RSS feed, without having to go into the plugin back-end.

All the groups in my community are reporting that there are no friends showing up in the list when they want to invite friends to their group. All report that their friends have filled out their profiles. Have about 70 people in the community right now.

Yes, CPT BuddyPress XProfile Privacy, WordPress Backup, SB Welcome Editor – I tried deactivating them all, and this didn’t change solve the problem

9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes?

Standard

10. Have you modified the core files in any way?

No

11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php?

Yes..code for putting in localization (.mo file)

12. If running bbPress, which version?

latest version

13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files.

no errors in server’s log files that relate to this problem

Ok, one major difference I’m noticing when comparing my local install and my live site it their htaccess and wp-config.php.

For example, my local wp-config.php reads:

$base = '/wordpress-mu/';

define('PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/wordpress-mu/' );
```
while my site wp-config.php reads:
```
$base = '/';

define('DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'blogs.empire-edutools.net' );

define('PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/' );
```
Does this make a difference to have the $base set?

Also line #2 of my local .htaccess reads:

RewriteBase /wordpress-mu/

while site .htaccess reads:

RewriteBase /

I think this is typical, but just want to verify?

Hey,

is there a way to call specific profile fields within the profile loop instead of only calling groups of profile fields?

I am creating a new template and want to position each profile field separately. I only managed to do this with whole profile-field-groups by putting the group id into the loop. it didn’t work with field-ids though.

When I try adding a friend, it says “Friendship could not be requested.Friendship could not be requested”.

When I try to post to wire, it says “Wire message could not be posted. Please try again.”

I am using the latest version of buddy press along with the latest of wordpress mu.

I set up another test domain and things seem to be fine there.

After upgrading to BP 1.1 I went to test my registration process via the regular wordpress login screen. When I click on register I received a blank page and I noticed that it was a different url than the registration page on the buddypress bar.

So I manual hacked the /Registration/ Directory into the wp-login.php page so that it would just go to the buddypress registration page.

What gives? Has anyone else encountered this?

If you build themes, upload them to the WordPress theme directory and tag them “buddypress”. They will show up on this site once approved.
