ParticipantYou might mean https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/demo-data-creator/ good up to WP 3.0.5.
This doesn’t however create groups, blogs, etc.
Definitely for a test install. The last time I used this some months ago, when I deactivated/deleted/uninstalled the plugin, it took away all users etc as I think it was also mentioned in plugin site before.March 30, 2011 at 1:22 pm #109115In reply to: Can't Create New Blogs

ParticipantTo be honest you are not really on the right support forum are you? Blogs belong to WP, issues with those or with the WP DB are going to be best addressed to the WordPress forums.

Participant@Pisanojm: This stuff is a great motivation to keep writing tutorials for BuddyPress. Great to hear that it helped for your community

@Gregfielding. you could use the CDN Sync Tool as well: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cdn-sync-tool/.
BUT I would advise you to till install W3 Total Cache and simply disable all the caching functionality. It’s a matter of ticking a few boxes, and only enabling the CDN option. I have not tested the CDN Sync Tool, but the huge benefit of Total Cache is the inclusion of custom files to be served through the CDN:

This is the big trick on getting avatars/group-avatars and static files served with max speeds

ParticipantYou can add widget areas anywhere you like. See this tutorial to learn how: http://wpmu.org/how-to-widgetize-a-page-post-header-or-any-other-template-in-wordpress/
You should create a child-theme of bp-default first though to avoid having to redo all your modifications when you upgrade Buddypress: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

ParticipantIt was a good day when Bowe showed me I could use MAXCDN to cache avatars… It was not working with my older AMAZON S3 CDN solution and I was actively trying to find someone for over 7 months to tell me why! Today, I finally got the xcache php opcode to work on both my server and for specifically for BuddyPress (using it for database caching via w3tc). Things are moving along quite nicely now.
The key to maximizing MAXCDN is to cache all of your plugins’ css, images, and javascripts… once you do this, it flies!
Reposting Bowe’s Link here for MAXCDN and BP:
http://bp-tricks.com/featured/the-perfect-cdn-setup-for-buddypress-using-maxcdn-and-w3-total-cache/#comment-174097306With regard to wp-minify or w3tc minify and buddypress, I’ve never been happy with the results of this as usually it will stop something completely from functioning, no matter how careful I was in trying to exclude potential CSS/JS issues individually. I am using wp-minify successfully on a number of less active WordPress sites though… I may give minify a go again some time later, much later!

ParticipantIt’s not directly a Buddypress issue. It’s a plugin and hack issue. Where most standard wordpress blogs may only have the need for a few plugins, complex Buddypress communities have lots of plugins.

ParticipantI am planning on purchasing Wishlist, but I am also planning on using BuddyPress. If I am using WordPress 3.01, can both Wishlist and BuddyPress work together in one website run by WordPress.
99.3% of the time, it’s fine with buddypress, but I am not finding any “whitelist” plugins, where is it located so I can learn more about it?

ParticipantI downloaded the WordPress Zip and the Buddypress Zip and FTP´d them up to my DreamHost domain and the problem was solved. So it´s the 1-click install the problem.
Have you not tried hnla’s solution on the database tables over here yet? https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/forums-not-working-error-when-creating-topic/#post-69618

ParticipantBuddypress shouldn’t slow anything down at all. Unless you have a bad host, and poor space, your site should load, and load functions, just as fast as if it was not installed.
Unless, your talking about, for instance, just buddypress components. Have you read this article? http://wpmu.org/speed-up-your-wordpress-buddypress-loading-time-with-this-quick-tip/

ParticipantI can believe that this is an old problen that hasn´t been solved by WordPress/Buddypress/bbPress I just got the “There was an error when creating the topic” and I see that none of the wp_bb_ tables have been created in the database. I don´t know if this is the problem, and I don´t know how to create new tables (I´m not a developer), but please resolve this issue it is unacceptable that it is still happening… now I hope that creating the tables resolves my problem. Any body can help me create new tables??

Participantif you’re on an Mu install you’l have to log in as a super admin and access their admin areas individually for each blog. Although thsi is a buddypress forum so perhaps you want to ask the question on the wordpress forums.

ParticipantThanks guys… sorry for taking such a long time to update on this. Ended up having to work on some other projects. I’ve managed to get the custom avatar generator to function okay now, and have a live project that uses it (http://school.ocdaction.org.uk/), but I need to tidy up the code a little. At the moment I’m having to plug the wordpress avatar function (get_avatar) and use that for my rendering duties. What I’d like to happen is for the bp dev team to make their bp_core_fetch_avatar pluggable, as it doesnt really have much scope for extending in its current state. Maybe I’m wrong, but if someone has more knowledge of how to alter bp_core_fetch_avatar for my needs then that would be awesome. I did think of filtering, but one aspect of bp_core_fetch_avatar I don’t particulary see the need of is that it pushes the final img url through http://www.gravatar.com, which in my opinion is a wasted resource, as this plugin would only read directly off the parts folder when it generates an avatar, and then loads from a cache dir.
Welcome any thoughts on this.

ParticipantWhat is the complete error warning? You might be looking at ajax.php when the problem is the phrase before that and the victim is ajax.php. See https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_do_I_solve_the_Headers_already_sent_warning_problem.3F
