I basically set up the WordPress Network now but I unchecked the option in super admin this said register and a blog and checked the mark that was for register only. I run and advocacy website for people with disabilities. I would like each person who wants to advocate for a disability issue to be able to create one. And of course others to be able to see. It would include a banner if they have one. To below do have links and to be able to add them without knowing the code. Just paste a link in. And then be able to do everything groups can. Maybe have the check box for each user to create a new regular group or new advocacy group. Or maybe I could this have just the group’s transformed into disability groups or something without having the choice.
Kind of like a group face page or frontpage. Instead of the group comments being on front this face page could be one large page.
Can anyone help me.
Can anyone please confirm the following from my previous requests: (a) that BuddyPress secondary blog installations on a WP multisite are not restricted to the secondary blog (i.e., a network-activate-only plugin), and more to the point, (b) how I can deactivate the admin bar from *only* the main site (note that by following the recommendations above, it’s removed from both sites, but this is due to blog_id being stuck at 1 no matter which blog I’m on). At this point I’ve gotten nowhere, and am seriously wondering whether BuddyPress is a good idea on a multisite.
As a final request, my BP account for this forum is set to receive email notifications, but I have yet to receive one email of a posting to this thread; this behavior does not happen with similar forums to which I’m subscribed.
@r-a-y – If this is a 1and1 shared hosting memory issue then that will not help. WordPresss may report a higher memory but 1and1 servers will still be stuck at 30mb….. I would love to get round this problem myself, other than by limiting what plugins and themes etc I can run….
Thesis is only a WordPress theme.

You don’t need to create a WordPress network if you don’t want users to create full-blown WordPress blogs.
If you want your users to post on a single WordPress install without creating a WP network, you might be interested in this thread:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/user-blogs-without-multisite/
Make sure you have turned on registration in WordPress.
if you’re on single WordPress, navigate to “Settings > General” and check “Anyone can register”:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_SubPanel
If you’re on WP multisite, navigate to “Super Admin > Options” and under “Allow new registrations”, make sure registration is not disabled.
Then, in your sidebar, use “ to get the signup url.
I was having the same issue with my test site: http://epicgeniusmedia.com/fmp2/. All of the members or activity links just re-directed to the homepage. I had bbPress installed and integrated with my WordPress site beforehand and was having login issues with that as well, so I deleted that forum and used BuddyPress forum setup to create a new one. Everything seems to be working fine now!
@faceteletv
You look like you are using 1and1 shared hosting which has very low memory allowances for running buddypress….. see https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/rss-error-in-dashboard#post-88690 if you are.
1and1 have also disabled any tricks I have found that were supposed to increase memory….
They say on their uk website that even if wordpress reports more than 30mb it won’t be accurate – and my experience shows it should be less than that!
Ok I understand by default the Buddy Press templates are like this….
`
[HEADER]
[FOOTER]
And I know that I would need to to modify some of the templates to match my theme’s HTML structure which is…
<?php
/**********************************************************************

get_header();
the_post();
global $post;
$pageid = $post->ID;
$dccp = GetDCCPInterface();
?>
ID, 0); ?>
<?php
echo ‘
‘;
the_content();
GetDCCPInterface()->getIGeneral()->renderWordPressPagination();
if(comments_open($pageid))
{
echo ‘‘;
comments_template();
}
?>
<?php
get_footer();
?>
I have no experience with HTML so I don’t know what in the structure I would need to change. It says I will need to change the HTML structure in the BuddyPress templates that I copied into the theme to match the structure in my page.php file that i just posted.
The following is the Forum.php which I need to change. Can anyone make the HTML structure match for me so I can have an example of what needs to be done? Thanks

This is a support forum for a WP plugin, BuddyPress – you are asking a question related to WP blog posting, you need to take this to the appropriate forum https://wordpress.org/support/ but before you ask check through their Codex pages to ensure that the question you ask isn’t already covered by a guide and also search the forum for previous related threads in case your question has already been covered there.
I am planning to develop a collaborative information management website (based on codeignitor framework and dojo for client side interface) which would primarily include an ajax based interface for creating and managing notes/annotations and auxiliary pages for enabling the users to interact with themselves and collaboratively share messages and notes. I was impressed by the social networking features offered by buddypress. However i would like to know if it would be possible to extend the authentication system in buddypress to suite my needs.
Are there any resources available that could help me for enabling persistent sessions throughout my site (not entirely built on wordpress) and harness the community features of buddypress ?
Although i do have prior exprience with server side programming with python and ruby, I am new to wordpress and php in general. However I am familiar with the fundamental aspects of the language.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think maybe I was unclear. Here is my set up with WordPress 3.0
http://www.mysite.com is a multisite installation. It’s also the blog page. I have a number of contributes who’s posts are either syndicated there via RSS or via Manual Posting.
I have a secondary site that i’ve used the domain mapping plugin in order to manage a separate domain. (www.mysite2.com) I DON’T want the Buddypress install on this site. Is that possible?
@v_andreev
Like @modemlooper said, xprofile fields are added through your WordPress backend admin area (MUCH easier than trying to hack your way through register.php).
Go to “Buddypress” > “Profile Field Setup” and add your registration fields there. Any fields you add in the first (“Base”) group will appear on your registration page.
It’s a bug. See if you can go to wordpress.org login and change name to not have a space.
I think it was a Suffusikon issue.
so I should just start over, I guess.
remove the buddypress theme and see if wordpress works.
If I have to reinstall wordpress will I still be able to use the same account?
Ok, I just deactivated the buddypress plugin and the page is still not loading. I think this is because I deleted the Suffusion theme that wordpress was running on.
Is there anything I can do to restore the WordPress theme? Even when the Suffusion theme was installed the dashboard was not loading. that was the initial issue so I do not want the re-install Suffusion
Take a look at this WordPress/buddypress theme blogcastor.com/demo/socialplus/
If you like it, you can get it free by filling petition for the Naga people
blogcastor.com/social-plus/
I hope I am not breaking any rules here
I installed WordPress and Buddypress last night and everything was working. I was able to post links and everything. Today, I can’t post new links (BP won’t pull graphics from the target site nor will it let me complete the process. From within a group I created, I can’t post a new topic. I created a new group today and posting to it is not a problem.
I’m about to take on visitors this week and I have to know why this is happening. Please help.
Thanks.
So, now that I have deleted the Suffusion folder from the wordpress/wp-themes folder and re-uploaded the bp-themes folder.
What can I do to activate the default theme so that I can load the page?
I have removed the suffusion theme folder, which was installed in the wp-themes folder and re-installed the bp-default folder into the bp-themes folder and now I am getting a plain white screen when I login. There is nothing. I cannot even see the main page. Do I have to re-install the whole buddypress plugin or is it now an issue with the wordpress files since Suffusion was installed as a WordPress theme?
Hello, I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure these problems out, it’s really weird if you ask me.
What is happening, is certain items that are supposed to appear aren’t being recorded in the activity stream, such as:
“%user% and %user% are now friends”
^^This will appear usually, but I have noticed on new users, it is not visible to all members, except if you are the profile owner, and is logged in, but on the other profile he is friends with it will appear, weird.
That is the main problem, but I have noticed that some others just randomly decide not to appear!!! It’s so annoying!!!
Here is the exact list of plugins I am using: http://pastebin.com/Lw4JvZ5T
I have de-activated all related to buddypress, but still no luck!!
I am using buddypress 1.2.7 with wordpress 3.5
I am using this hack: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/using-activity-as-wire-in-buddypress-1-2-themes/, but I put that in awhile ago, and this popped up recently.
I test deleted my bp-custom.php file, nothing changed.
Help would be awesome!
I had some great help from the developer of the plugin (over here: http://online-source.net/2010/10/24/markitup-html-set-for-wordpress) who made some tweaks and I now have this working on my buddypress site
I want to let every member have their own Tumblelog, and activity can only let them post some text information
I find some in wordpress but they use theme as the standalone wordpress, I can create blogs per user but it seems
wasting a lot of database.
I just want the user to have to post and manage their creation. Maybe I can use groups, but also can I sperate groups into
[personal], [club], and [project]
How do community like buddypress.org sperate plugin and themes under expend?
thanks
@txs
Yes, I would like to see this kind of feature too please? Just been fruitlessly searching around the web for visualisation tools for my users. Such things seem to exist for Twitter as pointed out but not Buddypress. There are also tools like Graphviz and its associated plugin for WordPress but they are not dynamic and look obtuse! I imagine a front end where avatars are linked by ‘edges’ in a graph (in the mathematical sense) with the colour or width of an edge depicting the strength of user’s ‘friendliness’, i.e. based on a tally of mentions for instance? Taking it a step further by clicking on the avatar one produces a further graph showing their contributions around Buddypress (though this is less important). Thanks for the discussion. I thought I was on my own here!
