Thanks Kapil and Mercime,
I think I need to ‘play’ with BuddyPress a bit more to get to know it better
Backticks are like apostrophe’s slanted backward looks like this “` and you need to put a backtick before and another backtick after the code – like the page.php – for that to show up in forum webpage.
=== The following is the Forum.php which I need to change ===
That’s not the file you need to change if you want BP compatibility.
If you have gone through the BP Template Pack process, the pages you need to change are in folders which have been moved by the process to your active theme’s folder as listed here: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#revise-templates
So per list above, the file you need to change is the forums/index.php file
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/
You do need a working knowledge of HTML/CSS at least to effect the necessary changes. If you cannot do it at this time, you might want to wait for BP 1.3 where BP components are rendered in your regular WP theme if BP is activated. Or in the meantime, you could create a child theme of the bp-default theme (here’s how to https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ ) and use that first.
My bad
Because I added this code to functions.php and wp-config.php
and didn’t work…
But I changed some stuff and now its working
And now its working
Thank’s guys and sorry for the dummy questions
I already changed alot of stuff on buddypress core to make my site works how it supposed to work
But thanks for everything
Just adding it as you posted, it’s more a grimace though!
That is why mercime linked you to the codex page! Please read it for the answer to your question.
First port of cal on lists and boards are the archives and with apps the documentation pages if there are any.
hmm ok
But where should I add this??
functions.php?
wp-config???
Thanks,
Thiago Cruz
@obiwan77
a) Could be. There are other factors in play for good SEO
b) Not really. Have you tried http://wpml.org/ plugin?
c) It depends on your webhost – bandwith and memory allocated, etc.
However, this forum is for BuddyPress, proceed to WP Multisite forums https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite and use same username and password you used here to log in there to get further assistance.
Hi there,
I have done research to determine how to use WP multisite with multiple domains (actually only 2).
I need help in determining:
1) how to set this up,
2) if WP multisite is needed the answer to my goal,
3) what plugins to use to do the domain mapping.
I am setting up a wordpress site for my client. Bilingual content, but no automatic translation. I want to use 2 different domain names, one for each language, each one containing keywords each site (or language section) has to rank well for in the search engines. Let’s say to simplify that these are 2 sites.
I want to make administration of content easy, so wp theme and plugins for both sites can be in a single wp install – hence my interest in WP MU.
SEO is the most important element to consider with the overall setup. Ease of use/administration is second.
I guess I need the search engines to consider each site as having it’s own separate TLD (top level domain), even though they might actually be installed using WP MU in a subdirectory or subdomain on the initial WP installation.
Questions:
A) Would this setup achieve what I want (SEO)?
Do I need a domain mapping plugin, or the WP multi network plugin, or …?
thanks
~F
PS: C) do I also need a dedicated IP?
`Allow BuddyPress to function on multiple blogs of a WPMU installation, not just on one root blog:
define ( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true );`
from https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings/
Note that there’s only ONE instance of BP throughout the whole WPMultisite installation
Hello everyone
I’m having some issues over here trying to configure buddypress using multisite instance from wordpress
My problems is
I have this main page
http://www.mysite.com/members/admin
And it works
But in one of my subdmains that is
fr-ca.mysite.com/members/admin
I get an 404 page from wordpress
I would like to understand how those this member and member edition works
So I can try to replicate it.
Because for the first time I didn’t changed anything realated to this to make this part work
This is the default theme from buddypress
Does anyone know how to help me on this?
PS: I get 404 page if I go to:
fr-ca.mysite.com/register
fr-ca.mysite.com/member
fr-ca.mysite.com/member/name
fr-ca.mysite.com/member/name/profile/edit/group/1

Thiago Cruz

Does somebody have the same error ?
If the text is translatable in wordpress/buddypress you should be able to use the technique mentioned here
Hey Gary ( @ecksteing ),
You might have already observed BuddyPress is nothing but a plugin for WordPress.
Well, as of now there is no such ready made arrangement for the same but Andy has worked on an open source plugin that gives BuddyPress Features into WordPress theme.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
I have not tested this but I think this may be helpful to you.
Keep in touch!
Run Settings > Permalinks and set to other than default i.e. pretty permalinks is a must. Double-check WP configurations and if you have a problem there, resolve it in WordPress.org forums before installing BuddyPress.
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/
https://wordpress.org/support/
You do not move BuddyPress plugin folder/files around in your server at all. You can install BP in either of these two ways:
1. auto install via dashboard menu Plugins > Add New > BuddyPress then network activate. or
2. Upload buddypress plugin in wp-content/plugins/ folder in your server, then go to dashboard to activate BP
After either #1 or #2 above, Install a BP-compatible theme like https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/ and you’re good to go.
BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin and not a separate application. BP shares the DB of your WordPress site. And yes, BuddyPress can be installed in single WordPress.
I require to setup a WordPress Site and a separate BuddyPress Site. The users however will be the same for both Sites. I notice that both WordPress and BuddyPress use database tables named wp_users and wp_usermeta. For various hosting, administration etc. reasons I’d rather not use WordPress Network/Multisite.
Is it possible to setup BuddyPress to use the same wp_users and wp_usermeta tables of a ‘single-site’ WordPress install so that users don’t have to be duplicated in both the WordPress and BuddyPress databases (and to avoid people having to register for two Sites)?
Thank you
If you upgraded to WP 3.0.5 via dashboard auto upgrade, do a manual update via FTP or cPanel
https://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update
Also re widgets, WP Dev Andrew Nacin posted about that here http://wpdevel.wordpress.com/2011/02/10/if-your-menus-or-widgets-screens-broke/
@faceteletv
I’m trying to keep this conversation within topic here where you originally mentioned it, rather than wild in the activity stream.
I’ve managed to get forums working on a 1and1 shared hosting…
I don’t think any of the wp-config.php or .htaccess or php.ini tricks for increasing memory work for 1and1 shared hosting. Even if wordpress tells you it has more, it will still behave as if it hasn’t…
As ray said, you should disable as many plugins as possible at least till the forums are enabled. I already mentioned what I had done about plugins here
To find out how much memory a plugin or theme is using I use https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-system-health/.
You appear to be using buddypress social theme – which I haven’t tried but it has lots of options and may use lots of memory. With limited memory it would be better to use a simple child theme of buddypress default and customise it.
The above (remove admin bar on all but BP site) did not work for me…see https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-disable-buddypress-header-menus-from-main-site-in-wordpress-network-mode/#post-88928.
It appears that $current_site->blog_id is always equal to 1 on my site, no matter which site I’m on. Ideas?

someone could help

Hi,
I updated the bp-config.php file so that BBDB_NAME etc has the same details as in wp-config.php file and it seems to solve the issue.
My bp-config file resides at /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/bp-config.php and not at the root of WordPress installation but it still seems to be working fine after I updated the bp-config.php file.
Note that, I had to uncheck and check back the “Enable Forum” option under the Group Admin settings to make the error message goes away from the existing groups. However, if I created a new group, I don’t have to do this and it will allow me to post in that Group Forum.
