    you can block them all together (but will need to remove the previous ones manually)
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-block-activity-stream-types/

    otherwise there is a few hacks in previous threads on how to filter on the activity array and unset items.

    @boonebgorges — or anyone with good coding experience –

    The AuthWP.php ran into a snag today.

    The admin account in wpuser was changed to match my initials (all in capital letters). When the browser is pointed to the mediawiki install then the user id is changed from all capitals to the first being a capital letter and the following are all lowercase. How can this behavior be stopped so that my wpuser account in capitals is matched up with my mediawiki account that is all in capital letters?

    Can AuthWP.php be modified so that the code for matching my userid is inserted.. if $wpuser==LPH (wp-user database) then use LPH (from mediawiki user database – user_id==1)?

    Something like:

    `if($wpuser==LPH)
    ID == LPH
    return true;`

    This would be added to:

    `function AuthWPUserLoadFromSession($user, &$result) {

    // Is there a WordPress user with a valid session?
    $wpuser=wp_get_current_user();
    if(!$wpuser->ID)
    return true;

    $u=User::newFromName($wpuser->user_login);
    if(!$u)
    wp_die(“Your username ‘”.$wpuser->user_login.”‘ is not a valid MediaWiki username”);
    if(0==$u->getID()) {
    $u->addToDatabase();
    $u->setToken();
    }
    $id=User::idFromName($wpuser->user_login);
    if(!$id) {
    wp_die(“Failed to get ID from name ‘”.$wpuser->user_login.”‘”);
    return true;
    }
    if($id==0) {
    wp_die(“Wikipedia ‘”.$wpuser->user_login.”‘ was not found.”);
    return true;
    }
    $user->setID($id);
    $user->loadFromId();
    wfSetupSession();
    $user->setCookies();
    $user->saveSettings();
    $result=true;

    return true;
    }`

    There is not anything new in BP 1.2.6 that will address any spam issues. Spam blogs, however, is a problem with multisite WordPress in general (not specific to BuddyPress). It still sucks, of course.

    Where is the tutorial for buddypress plugin design and programming?

    I’m using Buddypress, WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin and Recent Sitewide Posts widget/plugins — I was wondering if there was a way to get the domain mapped website/blog into the Recent Posts.

    Thanks

    You need to disable BuddyPress until your WordPress multisite is setup and works fully — by “fully”, I mean blog creation, multiple user accounts, commenting and permalinks.

    You haven’t installed WordPress under a subdirectory called “forums”, have you? e.g. mysite.com/forums/wp-admin/

    A lot of us try to help answering questions on these boards, but we’re just volunteers doing this for fun. We seem to get most issues replied to within a two day period, which I think is very good.

    Regarding above — neither of you have provided sufficient detail (have a look at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/when-asking-for-support/ for the sort of information we’d find useful). Does WordPress (without any plugins or custom themes installed) send emails correctly, for example on user registration?

    By default, WordPress sends system email using sendmail.

    If you receive admin emails (new user joining, password changes, etc.), your email server is working, and it should send out notification emails to members without problem.

    Members configure their settings: My Account … Settings … Notifications

    If you want to use a different email server, e.g. smtp, this may help: http://maisonbisson.com/blog/post/12939/using-wordpress-with-external-smtp-server/

    If you want to send specific emails to members, you could look at something like the Welcome Pack plugin

    Which folder should the buddypress plugin be in? It’s currently in /public_html/thenorthschool.com/wordpress-mu/wp-content/plugins

    Update was automatic. I don’t think I have a caching plugin – would that be through wordpress?

    The lastest version of bowob plugin 5.7 (like facebook footerchat) is not compatible with wp 3.0.1 but y resolved the bug changing a few lines in the bowob plugin code.
    First go to http://bowob.com and download the plugin for wordpress, install and open the editor page for bowob plugin, Open /bowob.php
    change this line:
    wp_redirect($bowob_blogurl . “/index.php”);
    for this:
    wp_redirect($bowob_blogurl “/activity”);

    Three lines after. change this line:
    wp_redirect($bowob_blogurl . “/wp-login.php?redirect_to=” . (($bowob_pageperma) ? “bowob” : “?page_id=” . $bowob_pageid));
    for this:
    wp_redirect(“/wp-login.php?”);
    Voila!

    hey pals, I had the same problem. Searched a little in the wp documentation about permalinks. Seems that to use the permalinks other than the default one, mod-rewrite needs to be enabled in apache server. I followed the steps and enabled the mod-rewrite module and now everything is working fine. here’s the documentation https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

    Have you enable Multisite on your wordpress install? Blogs are only enabled if you use multisite:

    This is regarding kindiefest.com.

    We had a working BuddyPress installation and then the hosting account got hacked. After some wrangling, we were able to get the domain back and had a pretty recent backup. We now have WordPress back up and running, BuddyPress is installed, and all of the users are there, but all of the BuddyPress links went to a 404. I mucked around a bit in the .htaccess file as suggested here:

    http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/404-on-every-link/

    and now get a 500 error instead. The .htaccess file right now is:

    # BEGIN WordPress
    RewriteBase /wordpress

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

    # END WordPress

    I’d sure appreciate any hints. Thanks!

    @rogercoathup Thanks, apparently this plug-in is only working until the version 2.9.2 of WordPress.

    Do you know a plug-in who could offer the user the choice to choose the buddypress’s function language ?

    Hey guys, I’m working on a plugin that is an adaptation of ravatar (which was built for for WordPress 2.5). I realise its been out of development for a while, but I’ve done some code changes and have it working on the latest 3.x WordPress – I wanted to use my own random (wavatar) type system where I design different head graphics and have them alternate colour/background etc. as I grew tired of the wavetar effect and wanted my own graphic.

    Wondering if people are interested in this as a public release?

    UPDATE 04/02/2013: Firstly just want to apologise for the delay – ended up getting side-tracked with a large site/project. However I just thought I’d mention that I will endeavour to get this up and will create a new topic when this happens. All the code is there on my development machine… I just wish I had more time to add in a proper backend for it!

    Since the documents here (http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/faqs/) are getting rearranged (Cool job Mercime and Boone!), maybe some of the answers can be extended and clarified. Here is an example of one that needs clarification and an extension.

    Is BuddyPress a forum script?

    BuddyPress is a social networking plugin for WordPress. It is not a forum script. A stripped-down forum is utilized in the BuddyPress Groups component. However, if you are looking for a traditional forum (setting up forum categories, forum administration, etc.), you can try Simple:Press or installing a standalone version of bbPress.

    —
    Maybe additional information is needed. For example, BP uses wp_users and not bb_users. Also, maybe a link to the development of the new bbPress plugin could be included. Finally, links to topic threads already discussing the integration of bbPress standalone (such as http://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/using-an-existing-bbpress-installation/) and SimplePress forums would be helpful.

    Maybe this thread could be used to edit and write a “better” answer to the question. We could choose one FAQ – clean it up and move to the next one – thereby helping Boone and Mercime.

    Just a thought :)

    “The site was originally installed on WordPressMU”

    You can convert a WPMU install with only one site to single WP, it’s not hard to do and there are tutorials online on how to go about it. But none take BuddyPress into consideration and you’re on WP 3.0.1, so all bets are off. I would suggest experimenting on test install first and see how that works out, taking into consideration avatar and media upload paths. Main work would be on database. In the meantime, I assume that in your dashboard > Super Admin > Options > only user registration is allowed.

    I’m getting this fairly annoying error on every page reload on the homepage. I can’t find any errors I am aware of in the theme, but I would like to get rid of this error. It’s only shown whenever I browse the homepage of the site.

    `[01-Oct-2010 18:17:01] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /Users/(…)/Sites/wordpress.mu/wp-content/themes/bp-child/index.php on line 1`

    Thanks for the suggestions #WP champs!
