    Edit: Sorry, was due to a typo, misplaced a apostrophe when I was bypassing $groups_per.

    Works when I rename it to suit my slug

    @apeatling when using a custom slug, say groups was changed to example and your url would read: http://localhost/wordpress/example/ were you your groups would be listed, limiting the number of groups doesn’t work.

    Ive tried playing around with:

    if ( $groups_per && 'groups' == $bp->current_component )
    return $query_string . '&per_page=.$groups_per';

    renaiming ‘groups’ to example but I get a error:
    Warning: Division by zero in F:Programmesxampphtdocswordpresswp-contentpluginsbuddypressbp-groupsbp-groups-templatetags.php on line 69

    Any idea’s?

    I’m using buddypress 1.2.5.2 (latest version) and wordpress 3.0.1(latest version).

    What i’ve done so far: I’ve gone to ‘Profile Field Setup’ on the WordPress Dashboard under the Link ‘Buddypress’ and added the fields ‘Business Type’ with a drop down box of three options – DJs, Venue or Promoter. So when users register they choose one of these business types. I wanted these to show up on the members directory so put in to members-loop.php this code:

    `<?php

    //code inside the members-loop.php

    $business_type= xprofile_get_field_data( “Business Type” ,bp_get_the_site_member_user_id());//fetch the text for business type

    ?>`

    and i’ve tried:

    “

    Anyone have any idea where i’m going wrong?

    Why not use this version?

    Because as djpaul mentioned above, it’s outdated. WP 3.0.1 single or multisite with BP 1.2.5.2 is the way to go. In addition to stronger WP security and better features, you’ll be missing out on the BP plugin extension goodness which are only available and actively developed for current BP version – https://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/

    Is there any way to get this theme on the new version?

    Ah, it’s do-able but porting it would take some time to do so with all the customization in layout and coding to make it work with BP 1.2.5.2. There are free and premium BP child/regular themes which can further customize to taste. And, if you have WP theme, use BP Template Pack to bring over BP social networking goodness.

    I am creating a Motion Picture Casting site

    Cool. I’ve always wanted to play a vampire :-) Kidding aside, BP 1.2.5.2 and WP 3.0.1 install is the way to go. If you haven’t yet, check these out
    – https://codex.buddypress.org/home/
    – https://wordpress.org/showcase/flavor/buddypress/
    – http://www.bpinspire.com/
    Many have customized BuddyPress themes and majority are on latest BP/WP versions.

    Cheers.

    I really shouldn’t encourage you to continue with BP 1.1 series nor using old WPMU versions:-) … but that BP 1.1 series requires WPMU 2.8.4a (per old record of mine) Click on download link near bottom of page
    https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/browser/tags/2.8.4a
    BP 1.2 series support single WordPress

    Everything is installed and WordPress is working just fine … But when I activate the Buddypress plugin and theme
    all the links report the following error : –

    Not Found

    The requested URL /wordpress/activity/ was not found on this server.

    I have tried editing the .htaccess file but all the efforts went in vain …

    Any suggestions on how to get it running ??

    Help on this would be appreciated. I was attempting to install a plugin for my wordpress which would have ad spaces and donation places, for some of my writers, “WordPress Multiple Author Ad management”. After I installed it, I get the error in the title.

    I have tried unactivating the ad manager – still get the BP error.

    I tried deactivating, and reactivating – still get the BP error.

    I deleted the ad manager – still get the error.

    I removed BP altogether, and reinstalled. When activated, still get the error.

    I restored all files from an earlier day. With BP active, I still get the error.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    @djpaul – thanks for your response. Yes, http://domain.com/wp-content/plugins/welcome-pack/includes/js/admin.js exists. I am using Firefox.

    I checked for javascript errors and it looks like it found 3, all relates to the emails in welcome pack. Here’s a screenshot of the error report: http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/1227/jserrors.png.

    Here is a screenshot of the dropdown expanded: http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9350/dropdown.png. Looks normal to me.

    I am going to try uninstalling and then reinstalling the plug-in. I’ll let you know if that resolves it. Let me know if you have any other tips. Thanks again.

    **follow-up edit: deleting and reinstalling the plug-in via WordPress’s built in plug-in installer did not correct the issue. same js errors occur**

    Hello. I have a controlled network for filmmakers, directors and other audio-visual artists in development over at http://1.subvex.com
    I’m running the very latest Buddypress and WordPress 3.0.1. The network is exclusive to a limited number of people, and accounts are opened by invitation only: I have no trust issues with the userbase, as we all work with each other all the time. To this end, here’s my question:
    rather than run a blog I would like to allow the members to be able to post full-HTML in forum posts: including div, swf, iframe and object/video embed tags (priority is Vimeo) in Group Forum Posts. I would like these forum posts to be visible to the wider web/site visitors.
    Subvex uses group functionality over and above everything else. By keeping all actions visible and centralised in groups, we can manage productions (in early stages) via the website.

    Right now I have HTML functionality set for group members with this addition to FUNCTIONS.PHP

    if( bp_group_is_member()) {
    remove_filter( ‘groups_group_description_before_save’, ‘wp_filter_kses’, 1 );
    remove_filter( ‘bp_get_group_description’, ‘bp_groups_filter_kses’, 1 );
    remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_content’, ‘bp_forums_filter_kses’, 1 );
    }

    but when logged out, the html is stripped again and that defeats the purpose. Non-member visitors can see nothing.

    How can I completely remove the code stripping from Buddypress forums and therefore allow visitors to the site to be able to read, watch and (in the case of the flash animation module embeds) interact with the content members will post?

    Thanks in advance

    No, it isn’t blocked.
    When I was developing, I blocked search engines in the wordpress
    privacity options tab.
    But when I published the site, I changed it to don’t block search
    engines.

    I cannot update the wordpress or the plugins version because I have made changes that would make it stop functioning.

    Hi I am using the latest version of wordpress – 3.0.1, and the latest version of buddypress 1.2.5.2

    I have installed everything and it works fine except for forums. I use the forums setup from the buddypress dropdown and “set up a new bbpress installation” and it tells me i did everything correctly. When i go on my site and click on the forums tab, I immediately get rerouted to an error page which reads “Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home/awefuln1/public_html/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 924” I have no idea what this means and re-install the bbpress forum setup but still get this message. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

    I also have the same problem and I’m not hosting on bluehost or godaddy, ‘mail from’ plugin does not seem to fix the issue.

    I use the ‘configure SMTP’ plugin for all three wordpress sites on this same hosting accout, all work except for the one where BP is installed. I believe this to be a BP issue since the problem follows BP, not the hosting company which hosts the WP/BP installs.

    WP 3.0.1 and BP 1.2.5.2

    update: uninstalled ‘configure smtp’ plugin, installed ‘WP-Mail-SMTP’, and ‘mail from’ = success! I hope this helps someone else too!

    Thanks Paul,
    I had define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 2 );
    but not define ( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true );

    It’s working, kind of, but now there’s another issue.

    A user can now activate their account from the activation email if they use the register from the wordpress meta widget on the main site.

    However, if I try to use the buddypress toolbar signup from the main site, it just sits at the main site homepage. Previously that would take you to http://community.howtomakeadesignerhandbag.com/register/

    I think I’d like to not use the wp-register at all and somehow get the bp signup/login in the sidebar of http://community.howtomakeadesignerhandbag.com/register/
    showing on the main site homepage and allow users to signup either from the toolbar or from the sidebar. But I want them to be returned to the main site homepage instead of the buddypress homepage.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks for your help and patience in trying to understand what I’m trying to do.

    Here it is: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/new-user-approve/

    I don’t know if it’s BP compatible though, keep us posted.

    I don’t have buddypress activated currently because I need to fix an error. I need to get the loop into my single.php page, but I am having some trouble making it happen. i have get_post() in there now, and I want to remove it so the page can display the correct post. On my homepage, if you click on the “Yesterday’s Shirt” link, you are supposed to be taken to the previous day’ s post, but you just get the post being called by the get_posts() method on the page. I have tried to just pop the loop into the page, but I get the error that the post is not found, but I assure you, it does exist. Please help. Thanks!

    i have in the past (which has been refined and fixed with the compat mode flag) – whenever i dump BP on top of an established wordpress blog, the flag is a must. (comes down to the displayname tolerances in the wp_users table )

    Is it possible to run multiple activity loops independently on one page? i.e. if one changes the filtering on one, it doesn’t affect the other.

    Essentially, I’m looking for the BuddyPress equivalent of creating a new wp_query object (WordPress).

    Anyone have an example of setting it up?

    Ask them if they can increase the php script memory limit, in fact ask then but also report back here how much is allocated, if they can’t or won’t and this is the issue there may be other ways around the issue.

    They said that everything is good on their end and to contact you guys. I didnt believe them at first until I installed some other plugins/themes and then installed buddypress to find everything stops working.
