I install it just fine but when I click activate I get this message:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, support@freehostia.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Apache/1.3.33 Server at bizdebates.com Port 80

*And after that the entire site becomes unusable, repeats that same message. So I have to go to control panel and delete the site entirely.

    Hi there
is there a way of listing members on a certain pages of my wordpress site under different headings. One heading would be venue, the other dj, and the other would be promoters.
    Thank you in advance

@mgelblum For BuddyPress features out of the box, see home page of buddypress.org which lists the major features including Groups, Profiles, Forums, Members, etc. For general guide/info: Check out https://codex.buddypress.org/home/ and test features further by logging in at http://testbp.org/ using your username and password here.

“how to get inexpensive support/wordpress developers “
If you have luxury of time, learn more about WordPress and BuddyPress, create site yourself, then use forums of WordPress.org and BuddyPress.org if you encounter bumps or challenges along the way with specific questions – e.g. how do I get the rating system/review system like the ones bp.org plugin groups have in my site :-)

Not cheap, but reasonable prices from experienced developers who are competent professionals and who also help out in these forums

Whilst you say you have a VPS with 768 Mb of RAM, how much is allocated to PHP?
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

If that doesn’t work, try setting it manually in php.ini via the ‘memory_limit’ variable.

    hi Roger

I was looking to do it myself – i have created several wordpress sites and html and flash sites so i have some understanding and coding knowledge. Do you think there is a plugin out there that can help or even a basic tutorial that can help me? However if you think the only way i’m going to get this is by getting someone to build it for me i will do you suggested and hire a developer.
    Cheers

    Hi There!
This is what i am looking for:
    1. New users press ‘Sign Up’ button on WordPress site.
    2. they are directed to a registration page where they are 3 options – are they a DJ or Venue or Promoter.
    3. Once they have chosen they click Next and are directed to a registration form specifically designed for each type of user (DJ/Venue/Promoter)
4.They fill in the forms and payment details for registering with site and are directed to Paypal page for payment.
    5. Once payment is complete they are sent an email confirming registration and asked to Login
    6. Each type of users profile is put on seperate pages – DJ Page, Venue Page or Promoter Page. The user has his/her own page that can be accessed from that specific page.
The website is http://www.ineedyourskills.co.uk and is a socail networking site for people in the music sectors. I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much

This is really a WordPress question, but it is possible. You can find the documentation to do it: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_time

@Anointed: Ah, ok. I haven’t actually updated the gsoc repository for quite some time now. I also thought about moving to git but decided against it in the end — WordPress’s repositories will be the sole location for up to date versions of EventPress and BuddyPress Custom Posts.

Thanks Mercime, can you elaborate on what features are available now and what are not?

Any direction as to how to get inexpensive support/wordpress developers or easy to use guides would also be appreciated.

    Thanks

@mgelblum Many things in your post are do-able with BuddyPress out-of-the-box and with additional customizations and plugins which are free and those which are paid for. And then it also depends on your server and your ability to go through with the project or might need to hire someone to do.

As for the Sansation theme, either add BuddyPress Template Pack or port Sansation design to your own BuddyPress Child Theme. Either way, you need to have HTML/CSS skills with knowledge of WP/BP template tags.

I’m working on installing a fresh, brand-new installation of WordPress using 3.0.1 in network/multi-site mode, with version 1.2.5.2 of Buddypress installed into it. WordPress’ network mode is set to use subdirectories instead of domains or subdomains. No other plugins are activated, and only Akismet is installed. I’m also using the default Buddypress theme, having made no modifications to it(yet).

During setup, at WordPress’ prompting(based on my operating mode selections), I used the following rules for my .htaccess file…

    `RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L]

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ – [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $2 [L]
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*.php)$ $2 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]`

The problem I’m running into is that even with a fresh installation of Buddypress, I cannot seem to get the member profile page links to work, either for the view or the edit screens. They simply re-direct “http://domain.com/members/USERNAME/profile/edit/” back to “http://domain.com/” every time.

Do I need to use different rules for my .htaccess file, or is there another issue going on here? Any ideas or other things I should check on would be great as well.

Re: stability – what works for me may not work for you. Did you read information about the plugins? Both plugins are being actively developed. There was insufficient doc on EventPress, so here’s a sample – http://gsoc2010.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/status-update-4/

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-sitemap-generator/ (ignore some of the warnings in the dashboard – i haven’t updated it awhile but still works and waiting on bp 1.2.6 to do so.)

Bump. And glad I’m not the only one who’s getting this. :)

@Paul I’m getting the latter activation URL. And, though BP runs only on one blog, it’s only Network Activate-able as a plugin.

    *update*: It’s a WordPress core bug: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/14718

    @adelack – two thoughts:

    1. You can probably do this with the new WordPress custom post types. Build a theme that only gives your users an image upload post type

    or:

    2. Modify the activity status update to support image uploads, and use that instead of blogs for your users

I have been trying this for a couple of days now and I haven’t quite figured it out. Am pretty good with wordpress and the $bp globals but this one has me stumped. Basically in my group extension pugin I have added the meta_key’s state and country with their corresponding values. I am tying to get the groups that have the meta_value of a certain country. in my phpmyadmin sql it works great

    `SELECT g.group_id, g.meta_value FROM `wp_bp_groups_groupmeta` as g inner join `wp_bp_groups_groupmeta` as gm2 on g.group_id = gm2.group_id WHERE gm2.meta_value = ‘United States’ AND g.meta_key = ‘state’ GROUP BY g.meta_value`

    the results is 53 rows

but when I use it in my function, which has been globalized with the $wpdb and $bp globals and the query being

    `$result = $wpdb->get_results( “SELECT g.group_id, g.meta_value FROM FROM {$bp->groups->table_name_groupmeta} as g inner join {$bp->groups->table_name_groupmeta} as gm2 on g.group_id = gm2.group_id WHERE gm2.meta_value = ‘United States’ AND g.meta_key = ‘state’ GROUP BY g.meta_value “,ARRAY_A );`

    `var_dump($result);`

I get an empty array. I am and I have tried using correlated subqueries and now using a join. Any help will be apreciated

    Chiming in here…

@hnla is correct (as well he should be, with all the help I got from him building the plugin). Add All Nav Links to BP-Adminbar does not modify any links inherent to the adminbar itself (My Account, My Blogs, Notifications…). It simply adds Buddypress and WordPress page links to it and allows you to customize how everything is displayed.

Not necessarily, all depends, BP uses a stock install of WP so generally WP plugins will work on that part of the site that is WP, but won’t necessarily be BuddyPress aware. This is one of those suck it and see type questions.

    Will they function correctly?
