MemberHi karmatosed
I am looking for a deeper integration with BuddyPress. For example, a lot of the ecommerce plugins available let your customers buy something. They even let them create a ‘shopper’ account. BUT – this ‘shopper’ account isn’t a wordpress or buddypress account.
I have my eye on WooCommerce at the moment. Perhaps there are some more good ones available?

MemberHi,
I’m having the same problem as well. I created an account and tried to delete it from the site itself via the profile page. I get an error message instead
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare add_user() (previously declared in /home/***/public_html/pikipoky.com/wp-admin/includes/user.php:17) in /home/***/public_html/pikipoky.com/wp-admin/includes/user.php on line 18
I had a friend create an account and he couldn’t delete his account and got the same fatal error message.

MemberJust to update, I have now solved this problem.
I removed the code that shares the users and roles with the buddypress sub-site, so the wp-config.php and capabilities.php are back to the wordpress originals. Then I logged in with the admin account (the only user that was created when the wordpress was installed) and i managed to run the update wizard.
Then I changed the wp-config.php and capabilities.php files back to include the code used to share the users from my main wordpress site.
All is back to normal

ParticipantUpdate:
1. Still a problem
2. Turns out I’m an idiot…I was not trying to delete a group, I was deleting the ACTIVITY post showing I created the group. I was, in fact, able to delete a group by going to the right place (DUH).
3. Still a problem – I also tried deleting the request I sent to the subscriber test account but it says “Friendship request could not be cancelled.”
4. Not sure how/why but I can now log out as admin. One thing of note…all of my test accounts and my admin account have the same password for now. I changed my admin account. Logged out via the Dashboard and then logged back in. Shortly there after I was able to log out of my admin account using the BuddyPress Log Out button that was not working for me before.
I’m still having the issues with #

Participant== I want members to be able to create new blog sites on their accounts. ==
@oraclesoftruth And BuddyPress provides a form in the front end so that your users can create new blogs … if you have a multisite installation and you enabled blog creation.
== I configured it to activate on Blog “2? and not my Primary Network Blog, etc. ==
Just to be clear, did you add
`define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, $blog_id );
`
where $blog_id is the Blog ID number of the secondary site. For example `define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 3);` in bp-custom.php per https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings/August 7, 2012 at 7:36 pm #138691Norman
ParticipantHi Paul,
Sure if you go to: http://ceric.org
And I created a user account for you username: paul and password: password
You should be able to see.

ParticipantI use Login Ninja , time to time I ban them with “yearly ban” bad IP’s , I have about 30 banned IP’s till now , it is not too much work to ban them , because spammers use only one IP to create in 1 run 100’s accounts (maybe using XRUMER ecc. read it on http://www.blackhatworld.com , in Ninja login log you will see that spammer during the night tried to create another 100’s accounts with banned IP) . So my advice is to ban every new bad IP and you will avoid 90% of spam , your only work is to ban every first new account with new IP which is in my case 1 ban in 2 weeks. Spammers will notice (probably using scrapebox – hrefer) that their run didn’t work and scrapebox or another tool will automaticaly remove your address from their lists. If this works some of them share your address on SEO blackhat websites all over the world , then your chances to get a spam rapidly increases.
P.S – I am not a spammer
, I like white-grey hat SEO but I read a lot about blackhat SEO techniques to avoid the spam on my websitesAugust 5, 2012 at 6:14 pm #138436@mercime

MemberUghh…excuse my frustration.
Scope and Objective: to enable the Admin (me) to create user accounts. To capture the username created and pro grammatically write to an external file in order to allow user to authenticate though our private authentication method. And to enable new user to receive a welcome email at time they get setup.
I do not care anything about when/how/why/or where they login or activate themselves so as to appear in BuddyPress. That is all down stream stuff that has nothing to do with my process.
The only effective hook I have found is the `add_action(‘user_register’, ”);` Works like a charm.
However, in order to get the user to be seen by BuddyPress I need to go through step #2 and Add New User in the Buddypress Admin page. That is where I tell WP/BP they are allowed access to the “site” and it is also where they get their role assigned.
I have over 200 users to setup in the next week. If I could just cut down my process time by 50% — that is to eliminate the 2 step process and make it a 1 step process — I would be a little happier.
I need to get the Buddypress equivalent hook to WP’s `add_action(‘user_register’, ”);`
That is why I am asking for an enhancement to BP to get an equivalent hook. Down the road it will make my setup life easier.

MemberI created this user for myself for testing in the early stages of site development, before we imported content from Ning (thought I’d add that in case it’s relevant). This problem started around the time I deleted this user – perhaps there’s some disconnect between this table, and others on deletion where certain conditions exist, I don’t know? I’m afraid I don’t have exact replication steps though.
Happy to help if you have any further questions though? As I say, workaround seems to be just straight deleting the record in the table, but I suppose that’s only good if the user account has, or can be, deleted.

Participant== The button on the activity stream for “Joe Schmoe joined . . .” is obscured by buttons ==
@timetraveler As an online visitor, activity stream looks good for Joe joining a group. I will presume you mean the activity meta seen by logged-in users i.e., the Comment, Favorite and Delete buttons. If so, open up your theme’s stylesheet and add the following at the bottom.
`ul#activity-stream div.activity-meta {
clear: left;
margin-bottom: 15px;
}`If that doesn’t work, create a throw-away username and password and post it here. You can delete that account after the issue has been resolved.

okay buddy for the first step as for disabling non-users to see other contents what I meant was something exactly like facebook like how if I am not your friend on facebook I won’t be able to see your photoes, comments or whatever, so basically I want to leave it up to my users to allow or disallow public to see their stuff but as of right now when I go to my website even if I am not logged in if I go to the pages I have created I can see all comments and so on. so I don’t know how to make this to the point that for example I just would have a login page and everyone would have to login into their own account to see the navigation bar.July 9, 2012 at 10:13 pm #137039In reply to: Problem with email notification

P.S. I didn’t provide a username/pass test account, but i will if it doesn’t work.
@2. ohhhh, i didn’t know i needed multisite installation :p thanks for that

ParticipantYou’ve got both options covered there.
Firstly i would most definitely implement an email sign up form on your site anyway. Link it up with an autoresponder so that people receive a nice email, or sequence of emails from you when they sign up, so that they build trust and open your emails in future.
In terms of importing your list. When you do that, Mailchimp, Aweber (who ever you go with) records how the list was implemented.
It’s perfectly allowed, BUT if you get spam complaints they will ask you to remove the entire list, or close your account.
I had this once, where I had a list from a trade show I exhibited at.
First mailshot went out to 2000 people, not ONE complaint.
I thought cool, I’ll drop another one a few weeks later.
About 6 weeks later I sent out another mail (only 2 mails in 6 weeks), and 11 spam complaints.
Shows how unpredictable it is. Mailchimp asked me to remove the list or leave.
HAD that list all been double opt-in i.e. they sign up, get a confirmation which they then have to click a ‘yes sign me up’ link on, then Mailchimp wouldn’t have been bothered. We simply cleanse the list of the complainers.
Email marketing and list building is a very tricky business, as you always get the idiots reporting spam which ISN’T spam. This is either thorough laziness or through ignorance of not knowing what that ‘spam’ button does in their email client.
Most people think it just deleted the email, not knowing it actually sends a complaint to their ISP, which thus gets forwarded on to the client that sent it.
You could import the list, send out what looks like an email confirmation link to sign them up to your newsletter that then actually migrates them to another list.
That’s possible, then they WOULD actually be opted in.
You could only send that ONE email to the list you import though, and even then you may get a few complaints.
Other than that, create a blog post that you could make members aware of asking them to sign up, or direct them to the widget sign up form you are implementing.
Not gonna happen overnight but the quicker you dod it, the quicker your list builds.

Keymaster1) Disable user registration in WordPress, and create user accounts manually via the wp-admin screens.
2) This is default WordPress multisite behaviour.
3) You will need some kind of front-end posting form for your theme(s).

ParticipantHere are 3 sites built on BuddyPress that provide for business listings and reviews:
http://plazaa.de
http://bitsythis.com
http://somibo.comThey are all heavily customised builds, and use the BuddyPress member features to provide user accounts – where they create and manage their listings and reviews, and also send messages to other users.
BuddyPress is helpful in that it provides a backbone of classes and API functions for the accounts and messaging. If you want your users to have profiles, and easily access their listings / reviews, then it may be the best choice. If you want minimal profiles and are happy to build your own custom functions to handle that part, then yes vanilla WP and a form solution (bespoke, gravity, or some other 3rd party) is fine.
