MemberI can see in the forum wizard of BuddyPress 1.5.4, there are 2 options: Forums for Groups and Site Wide Forums. Do you mean to suggest me to choose the Site Wide Forums?
Yeah, I did that and things seem to be good except I can not see the Forums page displayed on the menu (even I can see things are working though Admin panel). When I try to access the forum pages manually by entering their URLs, the links are broken. What am I missing here?

ParticipantMaybe I wasn’t clear with the instruction. I checked your site and you haven’t changed the top and bottom areas of for example, the members directory page per my post above.
This is what your members/index.php should look like http://pastebin.com/ivQ5Nnhu
Note the first three lines (after page doc ? >) and the very last three lines of what I posted above – just like what I posted here. Since there’s no call for get_sidebar anywhere, the sidebar won’t show up.March 11, 2012 at 2:23 am #131157In reply to: Migrate from phpBB to BuddyPress
@mercime
ParticipantI would suggest that you stick with the bbPress2.+ plugin as it works well with BuddyPress 1.5.4 – we’re lucky that JJJ is the Lead Developer for both plugins.
The current BuddyPress Group Forums (with own custom bbPress 1.0) will be migrated to bbPress plugin sometime BP 1.6

Participant@hkcharlie Activity threaded comments are working in bp-default theme. What theme are you using?

ParticipantFYI: I have deactivated ALL plugins, switching them back on starting with Buddypress, the problem was there straight away.

MemberNot exactly. You might want to check permalinks with respect to your problem. It may or may not be the same problem. I did attempt to reset my permalinks to no avail.
I uploaded the buddypress plugin through wordpress as opposed to using ftp. I did so into the root. it. works up to the group or forum creation. Everything else still works.
The site spins a bit before I get a 500 internal server error. I can go back to the previous page no problem. Just those newly added groups and forums are the problem…
The recorded error so far when going to the incompleted creation is;
“[warn] RSA server certificate CommonName (CN) `MYDOMAIN’ does NOT match server name!?”Still looking for tips but will come back and post solution if I find it in mean time..

MemberHi @mercime,
This didn’t appear to make a change. I edited the members/index.php, groups/index.php, and the /members/single/home.php files, uploaded them and the layout is the same on all 3 pages. Confused….

Member*facepalms* I feel like I’m either doing a horrible job explaining or my original post isn’t getting read…
I understand how the groups work. My question was how can i remove and restructure some of the fields that are automatically set up by buddypress.
My end goal is to minimize the amount of steps the new user needs to do in order to sign up.
For instance:
currently buddypress requires the “name” the “username” the “email” and the “password”
you cannot get rid of those. I get that and I understand why.But I would like to eliminate the extra password field. And possibly even automate the username creation.
Even understanding how the registration page works a little better, would allow me to eliminate all the forms and only allow sign up via single facebook button.

Participant@mosaicrob If you’re still using the Insignio theme where we changed 16 template files in this thread, then yes, you can make any of them left sidebar or right sidebar or full width.
For example, you want to make all the Groups Directory Page (groups/index.php) and Members Directory Page (members/index.php) use Full Page Layouts, instead of using the replacement codes I posted in that thread …
At the top of those two files, change replacement to:
``At the bottom of those two files, change replacement to
``

MemberIf you get the “Blank Pages Problem” ( https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/ : “Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 50331648 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 77 bytes) in /var/www/web1079/html/com/blog/wp-includes/pomo/mo.php on line 221?” ) you need your admin to increase the Limit to 64M to prevent the “Out of memory” Error called “Blank Page Problem…
BUT MY ERROR IS NOT THE BLANK PAGES PROBLEM… I GOT A PERMISSION PROBLEM!
Can anybody help me?!?

ModeratorWe use Aurigma Up on a custom mobile page for iPhone/iPad. Works great. Uploads to your server.
Then use bp_activity_add() – you should be able to adapt this example.
http://bp-tricks.com/snippets/adding-a-new-activity-stream-entry-when-a-user-changes-his-avatar/For Apple – you need to check orientation using exif_read_data
For Android – you don’t need it for uploads – but the Avatar crop tool doesn’t work, so we did a custom page for that which includes basic auto-crop.
For both Android and Apple, we use this lib for rotation, thumbnails, resizing and cropping.
https://github.com/masterexploder/PHPThumb/wiki/Basic-Usage
Why not use WP methods? This lib gives us more control and better results.Note: we don’t use BP Mobile, so there is probably a better way if you do use it.

ModeratorPicup app is another native app that uses JavaScript to get an image URL. The issue with these apps are they DO NOT upload to your server they get the image URL externally. I have succesfully created a native BuddyPress app. I’m not sure it would be of value to anyone because of it not being branded to every individual site. Considering the only real reason for a native app is image uploads I didn’t think it was worth losing brandability. This is why I’ve chosen web tech for mobile.

MemberTHANK YOU @modemlooper for your feedback back. The BuddyPress Mobile is awesome! It has app like features and allows my users to update statuses on the go. Also, for the more craft user, they can actually upload photos via BuddyPress mobile if they have the URL, which Instagram actually provides, once it’s live. And I believe Photobucket, and flickr do as well… Anyway, thank you for the feedback!
@Quint your feedback is awesome! I will look further into this… that might be a way for a user to kill to birds with one stone.. good call!
@not1_name Thank you also for the helpful feedback. I love collaborating on these forums! I will give these options a try and let you know how it plays out!

MemberI know that there is a great hack by @brajesh (http://buddydev.com/buddypress/facebook-style-activity-commenting-with-buddypress/), but that’s not what I need. Maybe I’ll use it for another project.

MemberI have some other issues, and I thought I’d line them up.
I tried searching around the web, but I couldn’t come to a sollution. I have two buddypress-related issues, that I was hoping to get some help with.
1. is that http://roskilde-open.dk/om-os/sidens-medlemmer should display all the sites registered users, but for some reason it only shows those that registered or have logged in with us, since I migrated the site to a new host. Maybe I could do a “log all in and out”-call and it’d fix it, but I have no idea how. Maybe you guys have a better suggestion, but I’m running out of ideas

2. When a user uploads a new avatar, the crop function isn’t working as it should. It just shows part of the images not giving options to select wich area of the image to crop. I think it’s some js that’s either not being loaded or getting errors. I just don’t know where it’s going wrong and how I go about fixing it.
Thanks in advance
