In reply to: BuddyPress 1.5 compatibility for plugins and themes
Anamaria
MemberBuddyPress Private Community is in the Fail list here https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-plugin-compatibility/, however the error listed in this table seems to be for another plugin.
When I install Private Community, it does create a php error, but I found this error is not created by the plugin, but by a BuddyPress bug described here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-buddypress-private-community-when-clicking-on-a-protected-page-i-get-error.
I have made the fixes described for this bug, and Private Community now seems to be working, although I am still testing.

ParticipantWhat if you’re trying to tie the custom function into wp_nav_menu_items? Can’t seem to get it working. See my topic about it here:https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/adding-notifications-to-wp_nav_menu_items/

Participantl”Move away from BuddyPress,” “retain your members,” “program away from BuddyPress” – I don’t really understand what you mean. BuddyPress is extendable – you can add/subtract whatever you want.
Depends on what your needs are. If you need a social network for your particular niche/interest, then BuddyPress is your best bet. If you just need a little spot for group chatting about something, then create a Facebook Group.
BuddyPress isn’t “just a plugin,” though. It’s a whole suit of plugins built into one. And similarly to what @Modemlooper said, if you don’t need to own or control your data, then BuddyPress might be overkill. And if you intend on creating another Facebook, just give up now lol. Unless you have tens of millions of dollars, you won’t stand a chance. Niche is the way to go.
“… should I use this software or a complete social networking software”
That’s insulting to BP! lol. If you want 100% ownership of your data, 100% customization, 100% extendable, and 100% free, BuddyPress is your man – or woman.

ParticipantYes, I’ve noticed this too. They aren’t blurry in the person’s or group’s avatar, but they are blurry when they are added to a status update. For instance, the group avatar when I post in a group is fine but then it is included in the status update and there it is blurry.

Brian Bowman
ParticipantI’ve added extended fields per buddypress’s capabilities; however, they don’t show up in my registration process….any idea why not and what I need to do about it:
Here is a completed profile where someone actually went back into their EDIT PROFILE and finished adding all the data: http://www.localjobs.com/blog/members/jimtait/profile/
Yet, even then – not all the REQUIRED fields are showing up on EDIT mode.
And here is the URL to register…and you can see that just a small bit of those initial fields actually during a new registration process – and my REQUIRED fields don’t show up either: http://www.localjobs.com/blog/register
Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? I’m asking this here because I’m getting zero responses after 3 weeks in the HOW-TO section having asked the same questions and this can’t be that hard to answer….
Much thanks.

ParticipantYes. This means that Custom Community Theme needs to be upgraded. And the good news is that the theme devs have submitted their updated version compatible with BP 1.5 to the WordPress Theme repo. Probably will be updated after undergoing theme review by end of next week latest.

ModeratorIf you enable multi site in WordPress you can install BuddyPress on a secondary blog.

ModeratorJust so we can be on the same page.. are you using a child theme you created or are you using an already created one? Is it a child theme of the default theme?
Have you made sure in the style.css of the child there is the following:
Template: bp-default
This assumes that the child is the default theme, if not that bp-default should be the name of the parent theme.

ModeratorDisable the custom header functionality on the default BuddyPress theme:
define( ‘BP_DTHEME_DISABLE_CUSTOM_HEADER’, true );October 6, 2011 at 3:38 pm #122605modemlooper
ModeratorThe good thing using BuddyPress is you OWN the site data and members and can do whatever you want. The bad thing is copying Facebook will most likely fail. Users do not need another Facebook.

ParticipantIf you’re using a custom primary navigation menu, this new plugin will help you with the My Account links – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-profile-menu/
If your CSS is messed up, make sure the ids and classes are consistent with the other menu items.
No idea about notifications.

I’m really enjoying the theme.
I’ve done a few modification for the mobile theme to make it fit better.the css I modified:
I was wondering if you had a way of adding the My acount and notifications tab to the main menu bar? any ideas how to do that. I manage to do it but then the css style is all fucked up.

Participant== after installation the side bar show up on normal pages i created but when i go to any of the buddypress pages the sidebar shows up below the page ==
@dsg257 you have to complete Step Three of the BP compatibility process https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#fixalignmentHere’s a walkthrough of BP template pack for Twenty Eleven theme using the second method of Step Three which could help you. Let me know if you need further assistance.

https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/about/== Is there a list of working 1.5 plugins yet == https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-plugin-compatibility/ I’ve been using BP Gallery myself since Feb 2010
Cheers.

MemberI decided to scrap the roots framework and just use the Frisco theme since its already working with 1.5 and is a pretty nice theme as is. Although its a great framework, its easier to customize a working solution rather than create a working solution out of something I customized. I am contemplating creating a Roots based BP theme in the near future though. Is there a list of working 1.5 plugins yet? It seems every plugin I was using is not working… most importantly bp-media which I though was supposed to work well with 1.5. @mercime I promise not to mention you in every post I make here lol. thanks so much for your help.

MemberThanks…But I found the solution, I re-downloaded buddypress and bbpress. And createrd a file on my wp-admin called php.ini that gave more memory to my site.
And that fixed the problem.
