Are you using any plugins aside from BuddyPress? If so what happens when they are removed?

Also do you have perhaps a link to your site and can you look in your error logs for PHP if you can even ask your hosting company about that?

One final check is that you are using PHP 5 on your server?

I think perhaps though your sticking point may be admin check without admin rights though.

@chuckclose1 I don’t see any options to stop creating groups… Were you using this for buddypress or just wpmu?

Could be theme or plugin conflict. Have you tried changing to bp-default theme and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress to troubleshoot?

Same problem with MAMP Pro 2.0.1 on Lion. WP works but activating BP leads to error.

Which website? Yours? What’s the URL? And what versions of WordPress and BuddyPress are you using.

It’s worth bearing in mind that as a rule of thumb, the more complex a plugin is, the more likely it is that it will need serious work to update. Some of the changes regarding slugs, as you mention, will only “break” plugins if a BuddyPress site is set up with a certain permalink structure. e.g. just like here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups// (Until 1.5, you haven’t had chance to put the groups directory under a generic “community” page.)

We’ll be trying hard to get documentation out on bpdevel.wordpress.com and the codex as and when the core team update their own plugins, etc. We’d love for anyone else to share what they figure out during the same journey

Here’s a customer dying to have access to an affordable video chat service. I love the idea and currently I am using Envolve Chat which I like but I would love this service if it included video chat. Currently I am paying $49.99 to have this service available for my users. Hope this feedback is of some use for you.

I am using php version 5.2.17, so.. Isn’t there any other option to solve this prob without updating php version?

@infocoolsms WP/BP versions? Current versions require minimum PHP 5.2.4. If you are on minimum version, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference=true in your php.ini

@cupid4 yes, still looks good to go. Know that custom menus will be available in BP 1.3 bp-default.
