    You need to set that up during the installation process. I believe it is very difficult to switch from a sub-folder setup to a sub-directory setup.

    okay found this https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2552.
    Looks like a known issue.

    I am having a similar issue. The menu bar link shows
    http://siteURL/press/members/admin/activity/ which gives me an error. If I change it to
    http://siteURL/press/index.php/members/admin/activity/ Then it works fine.
    I am on Windows hosting IIS 6.0.

    Any suggestions?

    I know that the avatar-on-non-root-sites problem has been fixed in the development build (trunk) of BuddyPress.

    All is going okay so far, except the math challenge question.
    The BP Humanity plugin only shows a static question. It doesn’t change the question when the page reloads.
    Does anyone know of a BP-compatible plugin or script to give me a random math question, like the one shown here?

    Thanks,

    I had used a fresh installation.
    1. Installed WP using the instructions given at https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress.
    2. Installed BP according to the “Manual Installation” steps given at https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation.
    3. When WP prompted “BuddyPress is ready. You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress compatible theme to take advantage of all of the features.”, I used the BuddyPress Default 1.2.7 theme.
    4. I try to login as a normal user and nothing happens.
    5. I try to login as admin-user and I can log in correctly.
    6. If I disable buddypress, I can log in as a non-admin user.
    7. If I enable BP again, I can’t login as a non-admin user.

    Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

    Do you have Group Creation Enabled in the /wp-admin section of buddypress settings?

    If they are enabled, and you still can’t create groups, go to yoursite.com/groups/create and tell me what it does.

    And, a link to your site would be helpful.

    Hi can you help me. I can’t create groups in BuddyPress. There is no link on the Admin Bar to create, just My Groups and Invites. I have reloaded BuddyPress and even started a new site and it won’t work. This has been a problem for many and I have searched many forums but, have not found a fix.

    Can you help or point me in the right direction?

    I have the same problem,
    I have added a group metadata “featured” to have featured groups displayed separately. It’s just a checkbox. All is working, but now I stuck, how to filter the metadata in bp_has_groups().

    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-groups-loop/

    At the moment I check it in the loop, but this is realy dirty

    if(groups_get_groupmeta( bp_get_group_id(), ‘bp_featured_group’ ) == ‘Featured’):

    wold be great to know how you have done this.
    Did you build a function groups_get_groups? If yes, would be great if you could share it here ;-)

    Are you looking for something like “all messages will be deleted after __ days”?

    I suggest to programmers to try one thing, on buddypress links when you introduce a link adress, the plugins detect rich media and fetch the address could be that de eureka of the matter if we could say to activity stream that each link get the same fetch and publish. Its not easy i guess, because im not really into programming, but I feel its the correct answer.

    Google Analytics is great for seeing the number of page views, but it won’t give you information about specific users.

    We just released an alpha version of Heavy Analytics (http://heavyanalytics.com) for single-user WordPress installations. This plugin handles analytics and reporting on the WordPress and user level, picking up where Google Analytics leaves off.

    In the near future, we will be releasing a BuddyPress add-on for Heavy Analytics, which will give you all sorts of information about how users are using your BuddyPress site – how they are interacting with each other, who are the quality contributors, etc.

    @davidn879 – Much of that functionality will be included in our BuddyPress add-on for Heavy Analytics.

    Once BP1.3 is released, this issue should be resolved as it will use WP pages for components. You will then be able to use s2member’s page access restrictions for components like Members. In the meantime, you can protect any component directory from unauthorized member levels by editing its index.php template.

    Add the following just after the opening `

    ` tag:

    Then add this just before the corresponding closing `

    ` tag:

    `
    You could add a message here for users who do not have the right access level.
    `

    See the “s2member” > “API/Scripting” section for more examples of how to customize the restriction or display of specific content.

    Okay I figured it out and used following code in wordpress page template –

    `<?php
    global $bp;
    $bp->groups->current_group = groups_get_group( array( ‘group_id’ => 1 ) );
    locate_template( array( ‘forums/forum-loop.php’ ), true );
    ?>`

    Hi, I should preface this by saying that I’m not a BuddyPress developer as such, but have been coding WordPress themes professionally for a couple of years, and have been researching BP and putting together a BP-based startup for the past couple of months, so have been through these questions myself, and my own early steps may prove useful.

    1. See https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-profile-privacy/

    2. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-private-community/ might be interesting. There’s another, more granular, privacy plugin that the community has its fingers crossed for, for further details see http://bp-privacy.com/

    3. All of that should, and does, happen as a matter of course.

    4. Semantics aside, they are all “subscribers” as far as WP is concerned, ie. members and commenters are one and the same.

    5. BuddyPress themes contain extra template files for the parts of BP that are an extension on the WP template system (eg. activity, groups, user profile etc.) plus various css and javascript files. Running a regular WP theme with BP running won’t give you the framework to display that BP functionality. In order to achieve that, your WP theme needs the extra template files. You have two options, each with benefits and drawbacks:

    a) Extend your existing theme with the required template files, javascript and css to enable and display the BuddyPress sections and functionalities. See https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/ The drawback is that next time BuddyPress is updated, you might be faced with quite a fair amount of development getting your site aligned with the latest code base, new features etc.

    b) Constructing a child theme. This relies on running the Default theme, and then adding your own css overrides and theme hacks as a non-destructive layer on top. The principle is that you can strip away your own additions, and you’ve still got the Default theme running beneath it, so in a sense it’s “unbreakable” and whilst you may need to modify your additions once BP is next updated, the underlying template will always function. With a decent caching strategy, unless you’ve expert level php behind you, I think it’s the way to go.

    HI all, am struggling a bit.

    Have set up a community where registered users (level 0) can access specific content. They should be able to update their profile but should not be able to view members directory. Members directory should be accessible from level 1 and up.

    Am using S2member to restrict access to specific URI’s. This works fine (am able to restrict access to appropriate levels when using the website navigation) with one small snag if somebody would guess the buddypress members directory page at http://www.mysite.com/members this is open to all levels!

    adding URI restriction /members to level 1 makes the profile page not accessible for level 0 (has members in the URI). Not what I want.

    Is it possible to rename members directory only?
    Is it possible to restrict specific members directory page (which .php page is called to get this list?)
    Is there another solution to prevent level 0 participants to access the members directory?

    Not a php wizard, so preferably plugin or something ….

    Well as you have pointed out this is, like WP, an open source piece of work free to download and run, so sadly expecting any level of support is simply out of the question, what support there is, as you’re well aware, is free and provided by a voluntary group of users who have managed through using the software to gain a degree of knowledge and understanding which they attempt to use to help others out with.

    I’m not sure if you asked a more detailed question elsewhere about your issue but based on this one it would be next to impossible to help you as you simply do not provide any technical detail on the issue that we would be able to use to start to figure out what may be the issue and provide feedback and help.

    You might counter with the fact that as a newbie, technically unskilled, you are not sure how to provide this info but that is something that just has to be learned. There are posts describing what detail to supply in a thread which at least give us something to go on.

    Your last comment about a need for more support may be true and that is where YOU come in! give back to the community help out on the forum as you learn and gain knowledge from using BP/WP, this is how tech forums survive and thrive YOU are the help!

    Locking topic, too many old posts on this forum get resurrected, not generally an accepted practice on boards.

    @n_sane a little advise if you really want help you must formulate a detailed question which describes the issue and any attempts at rectifying it, along with your setup in terms of app versions and server, simply stating there’s an issue will not get very far as we have to start asking you a whole series of questions just to get that detail from you, ergo much of our volunteered free time wasted.
