ParticipantThis is the same question you’ve asked in your other thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/buddypresswp-multisite/ and also in your PM to me.
Please don’t open more threads to ask the same question.

KeymasterIf you can get WordPress to run on a different database server, then BuddyPress should work too; I’m not aware of any non-standard SQL.

Participanthi techguy and modemlooper,
thanks for the very quick reply, I really appreciate that!!
I have an additional question:
Is it possible to run user blogs “like frames” (sorry for the expression) -> I mean that in the user blogs the header/adminbar/navigation of the main buddypress installation is displayed? And if not, is it possible that the user blogs are opened in a new window (pop-up) instead of beeing displayed in the same window? Thanks in advance and greetings to everyone, this community and project is really great!!

Participantthen you will need to change your hosting provider, or go for the subfolder install option.
It’s all covered on the WordPress page I pointed you to.

Participantyeah I think WP does support SQL Server 2008 but I am wondering if BuddyPress does?
I know the requirements for BuddyPress is an installation of WordPress but BuddyPress runs on MySQL it seems so not sure how to migrate a WP on SQL Server over to BP?August 20, 2010 at 9:30 pm #89862In reply to: Installing BuddyPress on SQL Server 2008

ParticipantBased on that then yes buddyPress should be an ideal fit, it will fill all your requirements either out of the box or with the addition of a plugin here or there.
As far as I can recall WP was capable of running on different DB engines but I’d have to verify that and may be going mad, best to check the WP codex for info.
I would draw issue on whatever poll it was that referred to WordPress as a CMS it’s a blog which extends beyond that boundary and keeps extending and growing and does do a good job of accomodating static pages but apps like Drupal are more geared towards being termed a CMS imho.

KeymasterClear your cookies, disable BuddyPress. If the problem is still there, that indicates that you have a lower-level problem with your multisite installation.

ParticipantHi hnla,
Thanks for the reply.
Well, I want to set up a community type website where users can:
– Register as a member
– If already a registered member, log in and join a group or create their own group
– Use forums, blogs, see events (or for group owners to set up new events and publiscise them), email others within their group(s), share documents in their group and discuss any of the above (provide feedback on documents, blog entries and events etc).
– Be able to browse restricted content belonging to groups they are not a member of
– General forum for all the groups within the communityHope that makes sense!
Wordpress won the best CMS of the year last year in some poll so perhaps I got it confused?August 20, 2010 at 8:01 pm #89854In reply to: 404 on every link

Roger Coathup
ParticipantYes, I can see there is a problem with permalinks for your main blog. Although, the permalinks in sub-blogs seem to work fine.
What happens if you de-activate your theme, and try using the default BuddyPress theme… do they work in that case?
What type of server are you on? Can your site write without problem to your .htaccess file?

Participant@rogercoathup:
Recently I tried, with only BuddyPress are active, blog posts can appear in actifity stream. So maybe a plugin causes it does not appear. However, the permalink still can not work unless the default permalink. Permalink I now use is “/%author%/%postname%/”. For more details, you can see on my site.August 20, 2010 at 7:02 pm #89851In reply to: Blog posts on activity stream and permalink problem

ParticipantOn the permalinks: what settings do you have for your permalinks (in wp-admin … settings)?
Please post as much information as you can, e.g. the url of some of the pages that are failing.
On the activity stream: only new blog posts (not existing ones) should show up in the stream. What happens if you create a new blog post, does that show up?

Sofian J. Anom
Participant@rogercoathup: Yes, it worked perfectly. But once I turn on BuddyPress, without any other plugins active, instantly permalink does not work.

ParticipantHi Anil,
Are you really looking for CMS specifically, because BuddyPress isn’t strictly a CMS nor, really, is WP. What exactly are you looking to be running with the application you decide use?
