In reply to: Where does activity filter get applied
alanchrishughes
Participant@djpaul is there a way to remove all the filters so all activity appears in the same stream like it does here on buddypress.org?
July 30, 2010 at 5:22 pm #87516In reply to: Where is admin?
@mercime
ParticipantBecause it is assumed that before one installs BuddyPress, one would already have a working knowledge of WordPress basics
In any case, you can always add the “Meta Widget” to your sidebar and you have the link to admin. Or, if you might prefer a link to dashboard in bp admin bar – http://www.darcynorman.net/2009/11/13/modifying-the-buddypress-adminbar/July 30, 2010 at 5:14 pm #87515In reply to: BuddyPress-Links 0.4.x Releases and Support

Member@eborg9 Do you mean like this?
http://stangsgarage.com/links/Granted, I’m using Atahualpa so not blaming the plugin. That being said, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix my linkage that would be awesome! Aside from the way it looks on my site, the plugin ROCKS!, thanks!

Participant@pisanojm Would you mind posting the guide/tutorial that you’re using for unified search? I’d be interested in that.

ParticipantDo you know what was changed in the developers theme sub nav items to get this to work correctly? I am running into this with my members and forums now.
July 30, 2010 at 4:44 pm #87509In reply to: Is it possible to get only the avatar-url ?
r-a-y
Keymaster@odiggy – You could also use:
bp_loggedin_user_avatar( 'html=false' );
(available in /bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php)Because that will automatically call the logged in user’s avatar without using the generic bp_core_fetch_avatar() and needing additional parameters.

ParticipantHave you followed the thread on the Ning importer, Boones still I believe actively thrashing out the workings of this plugin; I seem to recall some mention of splitting the json file or something to get around issues

Participant@techguy, I just went through my 1and1 cpanel. It doesn’t give you that option. @umablue, with 1and1, the only way to switch to PHP5 is to use the “Add Handler” and “Add Type” strings in your htaccess file. 1and1 won’t fully switch to PHP 5 until end of Q3, according to their web site knowledge base. I’m using the strings, so I’m on PHP 5 already.
I finally ran the Ning to BuddyPress importer. I had to turn off all other plug-ins in order to run it. Now that I’ve run it, I’m encountering a memory error on “Discussions,” which has a folder associated with it that’s 14 MB. Every where I turn with this Ning to BuddyPress migration there are issues. It’s quite challenging.

ParticipantI have a plugin that might help:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-group-css/
Falls under the category: Slightly rough around the edges but kinda works.
EDIT: Just noticed that paulhastings mentioned it… yay. Update released just yesterday.

KeymasterI strongly recommend to build this into a child theme, otherwise you are going to regret it when BuddyPress is updated in future.

ParticipantThanks @mercime I wondered what that other option in WordPress was for. Learn something new everyday. I guess it also makes sense that I could create a page template with the list of blog posts that could basically be like the normal blog index and style it however I want. Good stuff!
@jeremylyn I was surprised that it worked for me too. At least it told me it worked. Might just want to wrap the links to complete the courses in the is_user_logged_in() function and only display them if the user is logged in.
A new set of eyes always finds some bugs. That’s what we’re here for.

Participant@r-a-y awesome man. You wouldn’t happen to also know how to get all activity to appear at the same time in the stream, without having to select the different “blog comments” or “@ Mentions”

ParticipantNow, I’ve just upgraded to WP 3.0.1, and updated the network too. I wonder if I should at this point install the Twenty Ten 1.1 theme as the main theme, given that TwentyTen CP is in use too. What do you think? That might handle my header image issue, and perhaps make things run more smoothly.

ParticipantThanks both, I agree there should be more in the main nav (or it should just be gotten rid of). There is a secondary nav that’s only shown to logged in users.
@techguy that’s weird I did see one come up in the database without a user id. It’s a custom script I wrote, that just launched yesterday – probably still some bugs.
The blog is the main blog, I would recommend not using a secondary blog and following the tutorial @mercime posted (also many themes come with a blog page template). IMO It’s easier to maintain everything with a single blog.
