ParticipantI just sent the plugin creator the question here: https://buddypress.org/community/members/nuprn1/
We both are trying to accomplish the same thing… Only I’m not using RC2 2.9.2 ~Last STable It’s the right plugin, we just can’t seem to implement it @David LewisJune 4, 2010 at 1:25 am #80585David Lewis
ParticipantI tried both plugins. I couldn’t get either one to work. What I’m looking for is, when a forum post shows up in the activity stream and someone comments on it in the activity stream (using the reply button)… I want that reply to show up in the original forum thread. The fact that this doesn’t happen by default is, to me, a huge usability issue with BuddyPress. But that’s another issue. Is either of the plugins in this thread meant to accomplish that? Neither one did. I’m using BP 1.2.4.1 with WP 3.0 RC2 in single mode (not network mode) with a child theme. The parent theme is bp-default. I copied the included theme files (the “activitycomments” directory) into my child theme folder. Unfortunately, the documentation wasn’t much help. What was your process @thekmen?

ParticipantThis is a major plugin, we need to support Peter -This plugin and FACESTREAM are critical to me using Buddypress as my Pre-Buddypress PLN consisted of Twitter and FB folks, if you can -think about donating to this plugin… I did.

Participant@mrjarbenne That’s right. You can also turn on an option in Welcome Pack to force the issue too. Just click the help button at the top of the Welcome Pack plugin for details.

ParticipantYou can disable, I think, in the General Settings under Buddypress look for “Allow users to post activity updates and track all activity across the entire site.”….

ParticipantHow about eliminating the reply function from the activity stream, that way users can only click on link to original questions or post and reply in there as opposed to replying in the activity stream. Would that solve the problem for you @Pisanojm

Participant@thekmen I’m talking about the first plugin you mentioned… the 2nd one, https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-as-blog-comments/, doesn’t look like it would do what I’m looking for… are you sure you are not talking about the first one you mentioned:https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-group-forum-extras/ ??

Participant@pisanojm with the default theme, I made no theme edits, I did try a few different plugins today but I’m now sure it is the BuddyPress Activity Stream as Blog Comments plugin that worked for me.
June 4, 2010 at 12:00 am #80571Pisanojm
ParticipantI’m convinced of it as well, I was just reading some posts at the plugin group, can’t seem to find the answer though… my default topic.php code is different than that in the search and replace, I’ve tried a couple of things but “no dice” yet…
June 3, 2010 at 11:58 pm #80569thekmen
Participant@pisanojm, formatting pretty messed up on this post, so hope you can read this.
Yes, I’m sure it is the latest plugin I mentioned that puts activity stream replies to forum posts into the correct forum thread.June 3, 2010 at 11:47 pm #80566Pisanojm
ParticipantOk… going back through this the plugin suggested by @thekmen actually says it will do what I’m trying to make it do with the “activity” plugin… @r-a-y said in his post, not possible yet… I’m now saying that the code to find and replace in the plugin is different than what is in the topic.php file… If we can get that to work, it should work… maybe?
June 3, 2010 at 11:41 pm #80565Pisanojm
ParticipantLooks like it won’t work for what I’m talking about @r-a-y is on the right track in pointing me… just some semantics here with the code..

Participant@pisanojm, @takeo really sorry, I activated a few plugins today for testing, this is the one that worked out of the box for me https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-as-blog-comments/
June 3, 2010 at 11:15 pm #80558Pisanojm
ParticipantOk.. I’ve actived the plugin, activated the “BuddyPress Forums Extras – Activity” Assuming this is the corrective plugin… Didn’t work, but I’m going to assume I didn’t modify the theme, so I need to do that… running through the read me now…
June 3, 2010 at 10:41 pm #80555thekmen
Participant@takeo I didn’t do any of the theme edits yet, but the activity stream to forum replies worked out of the box for me.
Only tried with WP3.0RC & BP 1.2.4.1June 3, 2010 at 10:11 pm #80553In reply to: New Buddypress Groups design.. Group Hierarchy

ParticipantI planned on preserving the present group structure for the sub category groups… but all these different ‘types’ of groups I believe still should be made by extending the current groups code… because otherwise wouldn’t I just be recreating the wheel? Also I love the idea of organizing group categories with the tabs great idea!
I’ve been thinking a little more about the way to reorganize the groups page for this and I have come up with something, but I’ll share it later because I have no more time to type anything out…. I’ll be back later…

d-a-n
MemberPeter, thanks for providing a mod that hooks into BP!
I know this probably doesn’t have anything to do with the plugin itself, but is your captcha getting verified properly? I’m getting that the response was incorrect even though it was entered correctly. Other than a small logic error in the check_recaptcha_bp() function, the plugin seems to be fine. It’s checking for an empty response, but then continues on even if it was empty, to check if the response was correct. I guess you could either have an else case or just return when the response is empty.
I even tried with the latest recaptcha library (v1.11), but still getting the same problem. My API keys checks out. Very strange…

ParticipantOk, I have feedback for you on the “Import from Ning” plugin if I use it to upload a normal CSV file that is not originally from Ning. I hope the developer @boonebgorges of the plugin reads this to give him some ideas about expanding the ability to use this

The plugin does work, but not entirely. In your CSV columns, you must have Name and Email as the first and second columns, respectively. If you do not have them in that order, it will not import. That is an easy thing to do though, so not a headache

Here are some problems I found:
1) I want to create usernames for my imported users. How are usernames generated for users when you import them? The “Import from Ning” plugin takes the ‘Name” field and makes that the username automatically. So if your name is “George Bush”, it will automatically create a username called “georgebush”.
However, I do not want this. I have separated by “Name” field from the “Surname” field, so my user would have Name=George and Username=George. I do not want that. Instead I want to create my own usernames. However if I upload a column called “Username”, the importer does not recognize that.

2) The “Import from Ning” plugin does a decent job of automatically aligning your xprofile fields with the columns in the CSV file. For selectbox fields, there is no problem. For textbox fields, there is no problem. For radio fields, there is no problem. However there are problems with these two fields: datebox and checkbox.
What happens if I try to upload data into datebox? I tried uploading in the formats “1 January 1950” and “January 1, 1950” but the plugin ignored those, so I am unsure how to upload dates correctly. When I tried “1 January 1950”, it changed that and instead displayed “January 1, 1970”, so I feel that maybe I am near a solution…. however when I tried “January 1, 1950” in my CSV field, it just left that entire area blank… I have no idea about the correct protocol for uploading dates tat include months, days, and years together. But I feel I am near a solution….
What happens when I include data from a checkbox? Nothing is included.
For example, I have a field that is “Favorite Foods” and users can select more than one choice. In my field, I am using “~” as the separator. So I have “Pizza~Noodles~Fruit” in my CSV field, but the plugin ignores this. Therefore, for the “checkbox” field data, I am unsure of the correct protocol for how to prepare my data to upload using this plugin.I feel that this is a great plugin and we only maybe need some help figuring out the details from above.

ParticipantAbout your comment in the original post: “… still thinking of how I want to go about this.”
How about preserving the present group structure as sub-category-groups, but, during group creation, have users select a category from amid a selection preset by the superadmin? This way, the user-created groups could be added to a category directory of related groups in the same sub-category, with links to other categories in the site-wide group.
Then, rather than showing “All Groups” and “My Groups” in the group directory item-list-tabs, they could read “Sub-Category A”, “Sub-Category B”, “Sub-Category C”, and so on, ending with the ever-popular “My Groups”.

Keymaster@3sixty – So you tried commenting out the do_action line for the bp_forums_total_topic_count() function? And it didn’t do anything?
http://pastebin.com/rqGPKxrDYou can try replacing the bp_forums_total_topic_count() function in /bp-forums.php with this:
http://pastebin.com/qvpy4CS2See if the memory problems occur with my mod.

ParticipantIt also allows a user to sort through activity much easier…Because you have sitewide activity… then category activity then sub category activity…
