I have gone back to try setting up forums, having previously (after not being able to get them to work) unticked the forum checkbox on the setup routine.

This time, having ticked it, I have manually set up a page called “Forums” and gone to:

    http://example.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=bb-forums-setup

and chosen to install group forums.

    This takes me to:

    http://example.com/wp-admin/network/admin.php?page=bb-forums-setup&step=new

    which says:

“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

If I try to set up sitewide forums, I get a miniature of the admin page for installing new plugins.

The only part of the setup which is non-standard is David Dean’s Networks for WordPress plugin.

You are welcome to have access to the VPS to look if this is of any interest.

Many thanks – hope some of this makes sense.

I was going to make a hack for the plugin and then I realized something simple: Really simple… buddypress signup is the same as wordpress signup. Here;s the solution http://www.janvierdesigns.com/tutorials/janrain-engage-make-a-buddypress-plugin

I’ve never seen any errors regarding “you do not have sufficient permissions”. Are you trying to use site wide forums, group forums, or both?

    Hello, Paul

    Many thanks for the reply.

I just wonder whether you or anyone else can suggest the best way to get forums up and running on a new install of BuddyPress, WordPress and bbPress – all latest versions 1.5.1, 3.21 and 2.0.

There seems to be a problem that – apart from the “You do not have sufficient permissions” above problem – if you have to end up fiddling too much with install through BuddyPress and install through WordPress auto-installer, you end up having to install the whole caboodle from scratch and starting again – WP, BP and bbP.

Everything other than the forum element seems to be spot on.

    Thanks again.

@sbrajesh this stopped working in 1.5.1, any ideas?

BuddyPress.org has its own problems which are not related to the current released versions of BP and bbP at all. bbPress 1.0 will be continued to be distributed with BuddyPress for the foreseeable future, but we’re going to push and promote using bbPress 2.0 with BuddyPress much more.

I hate to raise this issue but is there a definitive statement regarding how things are going to go ahead with BuddyPress and bbPress forums?

I notice that in Chrome and Firefox, even BuddyPress’s own forums do not allow you to go to page two of the list of topics – the screen just goes blank.

I have read that bbPress will not be included as part of the BuddyPress package in future releases and I have read a lot of people having problems getting the two to play nicely together.

    I have given up trying.

Is there a cast-iron method to get the two working – WordPress 3.12 BuddyPress 1.51 bbPress 2.0 – all new installs, without getting the “you do not have sufficient permissions” roadblock?

As a note, this is on a multi-network with David Dean’s plugin, but everything has worked OK in previous versions.

Many thanks for any feedback and thanks for all the hard work from everyone.

    …………………..

    Now resolved

As it was a fresh site I deleted all and started again and this time round it all seems to be working fine.

    Thanks

Is there a way to make the main parts of the profile ajax load? It’s quite annoying having to scroll past the header and menu every time I click a page/link.

Something similar to http://themeforest.net/item/salutation-wordpress-buddypress-theme/full_screen_preview/548199 but instead of the whole page refreshing, just the main/middle part of the window?

I’m running WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5 upgrade from 1.2.10
    Custom Theme: Upstart Blogger Futurosity

This is a silly edit that I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make.

The title of the site works fine in the blog parts of the site.
it reads: sitename | location >> Name of post

An example of how the title reads in the Buddy Press activated parts of the site:
    sitenameActivity Stream

I can not for the life of me figure out how to get a space between the sitename and the Buddy Press page titles.
Ideally I would like to add: space | space BuddyPress page

Right now I’ve got the standard WP title code in the header.php file.

    Anyone have a clue card?

I followed thoose isntructions and what happened to me was that I can not see the forums at all now. The group forums part have been closed down since day one in the BuddyPressside on the components page. The site wide forums have been isntalled through bbpress. I am using forums as slug. I had a forums page and it letted me to see the forums structures ( not the whole one though with 3 layers of subforums but I think it had to do with theme side problems that should now be fixed with the new update we just got for Salutation theme few hours ago ( still waiting for my admin to uppdate to newest theme update) ). But when I deleted the Forums page and took it away from the Trash as well the forums disapeared totally. Yess I went to Permalinks and saved there even though Permalinks page did not need to be changed or anything, but still did it for the sake of it. Did not help. I can not see the forums at all now.

Things have changed since 18 months ago so it would be better to start a new topic.

You can limit access to forums by putting them behind private groups. By default, your members have the ability to post on the activity stream, but limiting access to groups, either by setting the Buddypress Admin panel to only allow Admins to create groups, or by using the Limit Group Creation plugin, you can keep your users out of certain forums.

Currently there is no out-of-the-box way to allow read-only access to a buddypress install; but given that it’s a SOCIAL network, it isn’t really a logical functionality to have: seems anti-social.

When you say “make a post on the site” are you talking about a Blog post in a WordPress Multisite install, or an Activity Stream update? A blog post from a user will create a hyperlink on the Activity Stream that will go directly to that blog, but very much like on this site, if you click directly on the avatar of the user in question, you should be taken to their profile page, on which you will see a “Friend” button, a “Private Message” button etc.

Ensure that you have activated all of these items in the Network Admin/Buddypress Panel. It is possible that you have friend connections; private messages; profiles; etc turned off. Here’s a nice tutorial on setting up Buddypress 1.5 http://wpmu.org/the-illustrated-guide-to-installing-and-setting-up-buddypress-1-5/comment-page-1/

you should implement or extend the roles of wordpress to work with, another solution is to use buddypress profile field’s and BuddyPress xProfiles ACL plugin to define roles

I’ve been redesigning my latest project kwitterz.com and haven’t gotten around to adding CKEditor to docs yet, but that’s on my to-do list for this week. I’ll let you know how it goes :-)

I wish to display random header photos in the BuddyPress Default 1.5.1 theme, but I have added too many photos and wish to remove some. How do I do this? I can add more photos but not delete any?

    #123762

Shucks. Any plugins that may solve this?

    #123761

@megainfo, @danbrellis, please can you explain which file i need to put the above code
