ParticipantA “Site-wide Editor” role just underneath the existing “Site-wide Admin”. There’s a post here.

ParticipantI’d like to have the following componentes:
– I’d like to have a Plugin that restricts the access to blogposts (of the mainblog) based on groups i’m suscribed to. E.g. group members of Group A can jsut view blogposts tagged (or categorized) with group a, groupmembers of group b just view group b tagged items and so on.
– The possibilitiy to aggregate various web 2.0 services like facebook, twitter, Google Reader, Google Docs … (I don’t need not necesarily a 2-way synchronisation like Tweetstream and Facestream but it has to be as easy as possible for the endusers (just entering username)). There already exists a Plugin for WP called LifeStream maybe this can be extendet … there’s also someone working on another idea
– I’d like to see a GoogleDocs integration (i think there was a thread about this here a while a go)
– some Privacy component Jeff is working on.
And the best … i have about 1000 US$ to support these 4 projects. I don’t want to have soultions that work only for me, what i’d like to do is to support devs who like to implement some of these functionalities to buddypress or new/existing plugins and have them accessible for the community.
So if your a dev and willing to do this let me know, my support is guaranteed (betatesting, translating, brainstorming and donating)

InactiveThe only thing BP should be focusing on is server load. BP php is extremely inefficient. Currently the only way to run BP is with a dedicated server (even with a single install). If you don’t believe this you don’t have enough traffic to make BP worthwhile in the first place.
There also needs to be some sort of default caching system in place. If phpbb can do it BP should be able to as well.
I would also recommend all plugins have to go through some sort of vetting before listed in the official WP/BP directory. Don’t get me wrong everyones hard work i s very much appreciated, but there is some bad code floating around out there that needs some sort of ground rules. There is nothing wrong with releasing “beta” plugins but there should also be some sort of stamp of approval for stable releases.

ParticipantHey rich
Tried out the activity-stream-comments inline in threads — very very nice. I’d actually disabled comments in the Activity stream on forum posts, because it fragmented conversation, but this brings it back together.
One note: in bp-forum-extras-activity.php on line 74, I added a new class post-list-activity (looks like it was just an oversight in coding, because there’s just a naked ‘class’ in there now)
<li id="activity-<?php bp_the_topic_post_id() ?>" class="post-list-activity">so I could style the activity item specific to the forum, a little different from the way it appears in the Activity stream itself.
Just a heads up if you want to roll that into the next update (with whatever class name you see fit)…
Thanks again for these — really great stuff.

ParticipantCan someone give solution that users that wish to sign up dont use buddypress signup page, instead they use regular wordpress signup which is much much safer.
Hmm, interesting. The generic BuddyPress register form does seem like a bit of a sieve (though it could just be my frustration talking).
I think you would just delete/disable /registration/activate.php and /registration/register.php. You would lose the ability for users to fill out extended profile fields at signup. However, quick signups are probably preferable, with seasoned users filling out extended profile fields as needed. I’ve read at least one article via delicious.com that suggests to me that signup forms need to be as simple as possible to help users focus on getting “behind the wall” fast and easy.

ParticipantYou have to hack one of the bbpress files. I would tell you exactly what to do, but my changes got nuked when I upgraded to 1.2.3.
Search the files for the “per_page” variable. it will be set to 15. that’s the one you want to change.
This really should be a lot simpler to change. It would really be nice if BuddyPress admin panel offered the most basic configuration features for its (bbpress) Forums. Unfortunately, the BuddyPress version of bbPress provides none of the admin panel features out of the box.

Moderator@guigoz I noticed that too This plugin is great but it’s missing the option that the normal WP seo plugin has to edit title inside the wordpress page set up for each individual page.

Member1) i’d like a mobile theme for buddypress and a mobile plugin that detects when you are on a buddypress site from a mobile..when you post an update using a mobile the plugin then adds a “via mobile” or “via site_name mobile” into the activity meta of the site on a pc browser..basically similar to facebook mobile or how twitter mobile works..it could also be able to detect the mobile type, BlackBerry or iPhone or a Samsung etc..
2) also a plugin which detects a user’s location in the world or gives the user an option if he wants to enter his location to be included with his update..so that the user’s friends can see where he is posting the update from..as it could be related to the subject of the update..for example an update: “i just saw Andy Peatling” / WP Camp ..WP Camp being the location..the /WP Camp would turn into a link and when a user clicks this link he sees all the updates that have /WP Camp and can also find locations with the most updates
3) a plugin that gives users points and works similar to cubepoints plugin..5points added for posting updates, 2points for posting comments, 20points adding a friend etc.. the site admin would then choose which extra features he would like to be unlocked for a user when he reaches a certain number of points and how many points for each achievement..for example: 100points>create a blog, 10points>send a gift…once a user creates a blog or sends a gift, his total points decrease by 100points and 10points respectively..

Dwenaus
ParticipantI think if that were to happen, it would be a good thing for the BP core team to do, because it would mean extending tagging to all parts of buddypress, including plugins. that would not be a small project and is best done by the same minds that created BP in the first place. Great ideas, but I’m afraid I’m not the one to do it.
April 18, 2010 at 8:46 pm #74090In reply to: User Registration Problems
UengI
ParticipantI have a lot of problems with BuddyPress user registration in general. It seems:
– no emails are sent to the user for activation
– there is no “forgot password” feature
– there is no ability to (re)send the user an activation link, either from the user or the admin’s area.
On the emails, when I create a new user or blog via the admin area, I get a notification email, so it’s not a setup issue with the mailserver. The server is my localdomain/localhost dev box anyway. No webhost involved.
Ugh this may seem a small part of BP % wise but it seems without these features it’s really not usable. What is the deal? Can this fundamental stuff really be missing/so buggy?? It’s hard to believe.

Participanthow about extending it to let users tag themselves?
If this were to be implemented, it should be an option. I, for one, wouldn’t like to have hundreds of tags.
@Dwenaus Thanks for this very useful plugin.

Wildrot
Participant@Dwenaus – I think my statement was quite capable of being misunderstood.
What I actually meant to say was:
It would be a good idea to extend this plugin in such a way that users would be treated the same way the groups currently are.
Users could assign tags to themselves (e.g. Wildrot: brown-haired, brown-eyed, non-programmer) and the user directory could be searched via these tags.

ParticipantCurrently OK for mods/admins to move topic to a forum where they are NOT a mod/admin
If I understand correctly, if a group mod moderates more than one group and wants to move a topic from one of his group forums to another he moderates, he can’t?
If so, isn’t that restrictive?

ParticipantDo you think it is possible to use a redirect rule in .htaccess instead of going with the cPanel option from the video you provided? (I do not have cPanel, and I am on MediaTemple), to have images to doisplay fine in the activity stream?
Please note that WP itself installed in a subfolder is not a problem (https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory), and URLs are generated without the subfolder. It is the BuddyPress components that generates the subfolder in URLs/permalinks. And that is the reason why I needed this code (who was provided by r-a-y) to get rid of it:
// Getting rid of the subfolder in URLs/permalinks
function my_bp_override_core_domain() {
$domain = get_bloginfo('url');
return $domain;
}
add_filter('bp_core_get_root_domain','my_bp_override_core_domain');I believe that as you said, many could be the issues with WP in a subfolder if not handled properly, but I also believe that there are *many* users using a subfolder installation, and probably the core BP should take this into consideration and properly handle one option (root installation) or another (subfolder installation), without having to use workarounds.
There is an article from Jeff Starr that may be interesting:
http://perishablepress.com/press/2008/10/06/redirect-subdirectory-to-root-via-htaccess/
I did try different solutions, but none of them worked.
But because this is not related only to your plugin, I will probably going to open a thread about the whole subfolder-related topic.
Still, if you got an answear for me, I am here.
Thanks.

ParticipantGetting the original post’s time stamp to stay at the original value and show the most recent time stamp on the latest reply, all the while having it bump.
might be possible… if anyone wants to try running something on this filter:
apply_filters( 'bp_activity_time_since', '<span class="time-since">' . sprintf( __( '%s ago', 'buddypress' ), bp_core_time_since( $activities_template->activity->date_recorded ) ) . '</span>', &$activities_template->activity );check if the activity meta key ‘bump_date_recorded’ exists and swap it in for the time_since
(i’m not sure about the second question)

ParticipantNot really sure this is a good idea.
Slightly surprised that WP make this available and under a CC, seems a bit odd, but regardless scanning it reveals a pretty standard set of points, but they certainly would need adapting to ones own SPECIFIC needs especially sections that deal with VIP services and the last paragraph specifying legal jurisdiction etc which is not pertinent outside the States and possibly California?.
One needs to take a certain amount of care with legal documents even ones of this nature, to start modifying them could lead to trouble unless one had it checked over; to modify one and then to post it up for others to use unless it had been checked over could be considered irresponsible and give rise to others copying a badly worded document.
I am being deliberately over alarmist though
