MrMaz
ParticipantI just tagged 0.4 final.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped with the testing, translations, and bug reports.
Not much has changed since the beta.
* Changing the component slug is now officially supported
* Do not show my group links or create link form unless user is a group member
As soon as the repo updates you can upgrade from your dashboard. If you have a ton of links, make sure you let the page load all the way after upgrading since every link needs to be updated to populate a new field.
Only two languages are up to date for 0.4. Those would be FR and NL. If you are interested in updating or adding a translation, you can download the .pot file here…
Enjoy the 0.4 branch!

ParticipantHi,
I just tested the modified plugin on a classical WP install 2.9.2 with a bp-default child theme. Seems to work just fine.
Thanks !

MemberWhat exactly is a component?
Am I just supposed to start reading the function reference and some code and try to understand?
Most articles I found there seem mere stubs that only make sense when you know what you’re looking at.
When I started with WordPress I kind of rolled into it and looked some things up when I needed them etc.
For WordPress there are 2 excellent guides to get you started developing plugins and themes.
With BuddyPress I have absolutely no sense about what it does, how it works from the inside and where to start.
Aren’t there any books or tutorials to get started developing in an easy way?

ParticipantI’ve been trying this plugin with wpmu 2.9.2 and 1.2.3 and it works great…until you try extending the logic to buddypress generated pages. That may be my fault, not understanding the correct formatting for the conditional tags.
Can someone suggest the correct logic to use for, say: “siteurl/groups/mygroupname”?
Cheers

ParticipantI had this same error and realized it was a conflict with a plugin that I had installed – the BuddyPress Template Pack. I’d been trying to use the Thematic theme, and had the plugin installed for that (however, could not get the BuddyPress menu to show up in this theme). When I switched over to BuddyMatic, it all went white until I deleted that Template Pack plugin. After that, however, the page has been littered with errors that I have not resolved. But it does resolve the empty page.

We are currently chatting with the developer about extending this plugin to work with post comments, but it should be possible to get him to add a setting to do what you want as well.
Would you like to contribute to the debate going on at the above thread?

Participantthe index won’t paginate and it will only display public and/or if that certain user is a member of other private/hidden groups – at least that is what the logic is suppose to do

KeymasterIf disabling the Activity Streams component causes problems with any aspect of BuddyPress on an “out of the box” install (using the default BuddyPress theme), please report as a bug on https://trac.buddypress.org/ using your username and password from this site. Thanks

MemberHi,
Thanks for this plugin.
It seems to work very good on my site, exept for the homepage. Maybe I missed something but the title of my homepage is “Blog”. I’ve checked WordPress options (site name, and site title, it’s not “Blog”) and I don’t find homepage option in BuddyPress SEO.
Any idea ?
Excuse my english.
Cordialement,
Guillaume Coulon.

Participantyou have to create a group and then, from the group admin, you can handle the forum.
you must also ensure that you activate forum in bp general options

ParticipantHello,
not sure if this is a problem on our forum installation.. anyhow
we have over 51 groups with forums, however only 21 are listed on the index page..
and there is not paginating either..
best would be to have them all listed on single page
is there any setting i should look at?

ParticipantIt’s a known issue that @username works but @user-name does not. Not sure if that’s the problem you’re having.
I mentioned it here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/allowing-users-to-type-in-uppercase-letters-for-the-username#post-47196

ParticipantWell it’s hard for me not to be a little smug about this Ning stuff. I moved 2 of my Ning networks over to BP with cut and paste technology and in the process have lost most of my members. However it forced me to concentrate more on the content side of my site and not the whiz bang features and I needed to do that. Ning was and is a joke and people who thought they were gonna be able to stay and suck off the Tet of Ning for free were sadly misguided.
This is a great opportunity for the user base of BuddyPress to grow but to do so there HAS to be some real discussion and debate about CORE functionality. If we are to scoop up some of those disgruntled former Ning Network Creators then the base feature set should be comparable with what they could get with Ning.

ParticipantAnd I am waiting for Boone to write a plugin that will build my BP community, fill it with thousands of members that will click on hundreds of ads which in turn will make me billonaire.
Sorry for the OT, but I really think Boone can do it…
UPDATE: getting back on topic, wpmu.org will start building a Ning Migration Tool: http://wpmu.org/ning-to-buddypress-wordpress-migration-plugin/
Will it be free or not ? Place your bets !

Participanti had a similar issue, this is how i fixed it.
htaccess on root directory:
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
permalink structure:
/index.php/%postname%/
then i had to make sure that apache has the mod_rewrite module enabled.
running wordpress 2.9.2, apache 2.2.11 and php 5

ParticipantThank you for hanging in there.
php package is 5.2.13-1.el4.art as shown in Plesk 9.3.
Update: I see that Plesk 9.5 is now available. I’ll update the base packages and see if this influences the buddypress installation.

Participantif this helps anyone but my quick start for markitup (just the group forum areas for now – something funky with the activity entry textarea)
markitup will handle html or bbcode (enable the shortfilter and use this plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/boingball-bbcode/) – and you can fake the WYSIWYG part by using the preview option
