In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum Extras

ParticipantHi Etiviti!
Thanks a lot for this – when I’m able to add the BBcode and buttons, it will be great!
I still have not managed to do it so your guidance is much appreciated.
Since I’m a newbie, let me explain step by step what I did:
1. After uploading the zip file and extracting on my /home1/fromvict/public_html/comunidade/wp-content/plugins BuddyPress directory, I activated the plugins.
2. After activation, I clicked On BuddyPress -> Forum Extras and followed the instructions to edit the theme on /home1/fromvict/public_html/comunidade/wp-content/themes/bp-default/groups/single/forum and add the ” <?php do_action( ‘bp_forum_extras_topic_links’ ) ?> ” code as instructed.
3. This gives me the successful message:
QUOTE
BBCode enabled.
This plugin will convert bbcode to html prior to database updates and is recommend for external bbPress installs.
You may enable _ck_’s bbcode buttons via the BBCode Settings page but this might conflict with other textarea editors installed (tinymce, markitup) on the forum textareas.
UNQUOTE
4. When I click on the bullet item just below, “BBCode”, I get the following:
QUOTE
Group Forums BBCode
BBcode Buttons
Fatal error: Call to undefined function bb_get_option() in /home1/fromvict/public_html/comunidade/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-group-forum-extras/bp-forum-extras-bbcode-admin.php on line 29
UNQUOTE
Any idea of what may be wrong? Thanks!
p.s. Just a (hopefully) constructive feedback: as a newbie, it took me some time to figure out that the groups/single/forum was located in the address I pointed out in step 2. Maybe other users like me have a similar experience. In that case, it would be good to have one simple phrase like “you have now to find where the theme is installed, generally it is a themes/bp-default/ folder under your BuddyPress installation”

ParticipantIs there a way to add new categories apart from the default ones provided (new, humor, other)?
Btw, just installed this plugin and it seems to be working flawlessly. Thanks!

ParticipantBlank screen = errors.
Go in via ftp, delete the theme. Then make sure you have the absolute latest version of the theme and the latest version of BP.

ParticipantI’m trying to set up a custom theme for links, but the links tab disappeared and I can’t access them any more. Here’s what I did:
1. added a “links-custom” directory: /wpmu/wp-content/themes/customtheme/links-custom/
2. Copied all the files from /bp-links-default/ into /links-custom/
3. edited wp-config.php to include the following: define( ‘BP_LINKS_CUSTOM_THEME’, ‘links-custom’ );
Can anyone tell me what I’m missing? This is really a question for @MrMaz but thought I would post it here for the group just in case.
Thanks!

ParticipantYes Andy but it is not visible when members first login (as in facebook).Buddypress you have to put mouse over my Account, Notifications tabs, and then search for new mail and notification, friends request etc. It would be great if new mail, friends request etc popped up, stood out in header bar, or maybe in the sidepanel etc.
Memebers would not otherwise be aware they had mail, or friends request..

ParticipantThanks, r-a-y.
I have to admit that I wouldn’t know how to apply such a filter. I am sure it’s something basic, but it’s just not something I use to do. Could you share an example?
Also, I am not sure what you mean that it wouldn’t fix the activity stream. Do you mean that for that component I will still get mysite/folder/activity?
Otherwise, as you suspect too, I am sure there must be a CLEAN way of telling BP that everything is in “folder” but not to output that. Maybe a funfcion to put in function.php, so that the core BP installation is not modified and you don’t need to edit the core files everytime you update.
Any thoughts?
PS: it seems like others are scratching their heads off the same topic:

Participantvinbytes, you will have to rename the folder through ftp. It cannot be done from the wordpress install itself. You can also check if you host has web based folder access.

Participantmy-unique-child,
Same issue. I went in through FTP and deleted the BuddyMatic theme folder. Then went to mysite.com/wp-admin and picked a new theme.
I’m not sure, but it looks like all the folders for child themes and all that are in the BuddyMatic download. Maybe this is an issue with an auto download? Maybe not.

KeymasterRename /wp-content/plugins/buddypress-ajax-chat/ to /wp-content/plugins/buddypress-ajax-chat-blah/
Refresh page, then go to /wp-admin/.

Participant@Famous – The goal of BP Album+ is to use the massive resources of the BP community to create a plugin that is such high quality, it gets chosen as the “Canonical” photo album plugin for BuddyPress. In otherwords, the “Core” BP Album component.
With three developers writing code and dozens of people helping us debug it, the progress we’re making is astonishing!
Come join the discussion, and have your say in what this plugin will be!

ParticipantHmmm, that’s going to change things a bit then. As I use the unplugged theme for Buddypress MU, where the main stories are the ones pulled from Wp-o-matic. With categorie links to the articles.
http://gamer.mementoweb.net.nz
I would love it if someone who knew how to fix things would be able to post a fix – so that I could continue to use it from my main blog.

ParticipantSorry about that, thought by saying I updated to the latest it was obvious. Updated to the latest buddypress 1.2.21 and WordPress MU 2.9.2. Everything is in the same place as before the update. Buddypress is in the MU plugins directory. wp-content/plugins.
I use no plugins that re-direct. Only plugin not working is wp-o-matic.

ParticipantFEATURES IN THE UPCOMING 0.1.7 RELEASE
Okay community, we’ve just finished our developer’s meeting and have decided what features we’re going to include in the next BP Album+ release. They will be as follows:
1) Multiple album capability based on image tags. We will be mimicking Flickr’s image tagging, sorting, and gallery functions. Users will be able to tag their images, and create albums based on the tags they apply.
There will be two classes of image tags: user tags, and admin tags. User tags can be used for sorting and grouping images, admin tags can be used by administrators to approve images for various purposes, as well as for use by other plugins on the site. For example, on a dating site that charges users to view or upload images, or a realty site that charges realtors to post property photos.
2) The ability to tag site members in photos, with the ability for the photo owner to remove unwanted tags from their photo, and the ability for a user that has been tagged in the photo by the owner to remove themselves as well. The tagging system will tie into the @mention system within BuddyPress. Support will be included for “bounding box” tags on images as is done on Flickr (face tags on FaceBook), but the function will not be activated in this release.
3) Configurable thumbnail aspect ratios. There will be a setting in the admin menu that allows the plugin to be switched between “Facebook Style” AND “Flickr Style” thumbnail display.
4) “Perfect” templates – all of the HTML will be generated IN the template and be fully editable by the template developer. Image rendering functions will accept size parameters. This will allow template developers to dramatically alter the look of the plugin.
… That’s it …
We’re targeting Monday next week for a beta release.
Get excited!

ParticipantThis is tangential, but is it kosher to suggest feature enhancements for this forum right here in this subforum?
As more people are coming in, it’s getting increasingly frustrating to use the forum here, unfortunately.
