ParticipantI think my steps are all that’s needed. I was just looking for some confirmation. Hopefully a dev will update the docs with this.
Now, if I could just figure out how to properly display the html bbPress put on older forum posts ( see https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/how-to-display-html-in-forums )
Famous
ParticipantI guess I should have worded the above different. I also found the plugin you speak of, however–I guess what I was wondering is, will buddypress eventually incorporate their own plugin. The reason I state that is because, it seems logical to email all users in case there is a problem with logins or if someone hacked the system. BuddyPress seems like it should be the responsible party to potential problems. Not muWordpress or wordpress. And being that it is a social network website owners must keep the attention of users by sending information out occassionally. Just a thought…

ParticipantI wonder what would happen if I moved the / from this line or maybe add a trailing /:
define( ‘BP_PLUGIN_URL’, plugins_url( $path = ‘/buddypress’ ) );
something is acting wierd because the site appears to work fine

ParticipantI meant it literally. You copy the permalink, Now change it and then save.
Again,use custom permalink, put the copied old value there and re save.
The subdomain should not be a problem.
Hope I made it more clear now.

Participant@ Seobrien: I’m working on more then 10 themes at the same time right now, trying to bring out my first on 20 Dec. Guess most people are still finding out how buddypress hangs together rather than already making themes.
@ dwpers: Very easily, just overwrite the files you want differently and paste that in bp-default. For example, if you want to change the header, copy header.php to bp-default (out of bp-sn-parent) and the new header.php (in your bp-default) will overwrite the bp-sn-parent file. Kubricks is btw a very nice theme, it’s just overused.

ParticipantCan you explain a bit more on the process of making a child theme? I too would love to have the member blogs have an integrated look and feel into the default buddypress theme – NOT the ugly WordPressMU blue theme :p.
Thanks

ParticipantThere are more free buddypress themes at http://freebpthemes.com.
The list at https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/ should have more on it in the next couple weeks. Once updated that list will include https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tags/buddypress.

Brajesh Singh
Participantfrom which version of buddypress you are trying to upgrade ? if 1.0.x ,then you need to update your theme. btw nothing is overwritten(at least the themes) unless you do it manually.
December 7, 2009 at 11:15 pm #58206Seobrien
ParticipantGreat thread, if I could add, I’d really like to see the themes section of buddypress built out (https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/). I appreciate and agree that it is hardly a priority but have there really only been 2 themes created in the past year??

KeymasterWordPress scales just fine. Is it perfectly and sveltely built for all applications? No.
http://ma.tt/2006/03/wordpress-and-lyceum/ is a good read about this from a few years back.

BuddyPress doesn’t really suffer any of these as advantages or disadvantages, since it currently sits on top of an MU installation; it just kinda “is.”
December 7, 2009 at 11:08 pm #58203Andrea Rennick
ParticipantThe user blogs are handled by MU though, not buddypress.
It’s easy enough to strip out what you don’t need from a copy of the theme, or as suggested above, use a child theme for the blogs area.Also, you need to either move the folders to the default theme folder, so it gets correctly applied, or use a plugin to control this (I like new blog defaults).
December 7, 2009 at 11:07 pm #58202Andrea Rennick
ParticipantI’m working on something.
It’s a little more involved with just moving stuff over.

Participant(PS : the problem will be the same with the loaded CSS and JS files. You should really add something to the buddypress core to make this easier).
Here’s how I did to load CSS & JS from the plugin directory (default) if there’s no files for the plugin into the current theme :
define ( ‘BP_QUICKPRESS_PLUGIN_NAME’, ‘buddypress-quickpress’ );
define ( ‘BP_QUICKPRESS_PLUGIN_URL’, WP_PLUGIN_URL . ‘/’ . BP_QUICKPRESS_PLUGIN_NAME );
wp_enqueue_script( ‘bp-quickpress-expandable-tree-js’, apply_filters(‘bp_quickpress_locate_js’,’_inc/js/expandableTree.js’),array(‘jquery’), ‘1.0’ );
wp_enqueue_style( ‘bp-quickpress-screen’, apply_filters(‘bp_quickpress_locate_css’,’style.css’) );
function bp_quickpress_load_template_files($file) {
$theme_path = STYLESHEETPATH . ‘/quickpress’;
$theme_url = get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . ‘/quickpress’;
if ( file_exists( $theme_path.’/’.$file ) ) {
return $theme_url.’/’.$file;
}else {
return BP_QUICKPRESS_PLUGIN_URL.’/theme/quickpress/’.$file;
}
}
add_filter(‘bp_quickpress_locate_js’,’bp_quickpress_load_template_files’);
add_filter(‘bp_quickpress_locate_css’,’bp_quickpress_load_template_files’);

Participantthe buddypress files have to be uploaded in the wp-content/plugins directory, not the root.
December 7, 2009 at 10:11 pm #58198In reply to: Error Log with PHP Fatal Errors
Brajesh Singh
Participanta far as I see, your problem is the “BP_PLUGIN_DIR” is not getting used correctly.It is output in error log as literal ,which should not happen.
Please delete the old buddypress, use FTP and upload a fresh copy of buddypress to wp-content/plugins
Try activating and see if this error occurs again
