ParticipantThere’s a Codex article:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/upgrading-a-buddypress-1-0-theme-for-buddypress-1-1/
Scroll down to the section entitled “I’ve used a WordPress theme for my blog with the default BuddyPress member themeâ€.

ParticipantIs there a tutorial online that can assist me with this? Or alternatively, is there a workaround for the issues I was facing with the user registration glitch I was having using the 1.0.1 Default theme with Buddypress 1.1? Everything was running very smoothly with 1.0.1 with the exception of the user registration.

KeymasterHey, that’s a genuine bug! Good find. Please report it on https://trac.buddypress.org/, using the same username and password that you use for this site.

KeymasterYou can use any theme you want on your WPMU install. But you will need to do work to customise it to support BuddyPress.

ParticipantI think I’ve managed to sort out whats at play here, but its led to more shenanigans. I’ve posed my question here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-says-themes-are-missing-but-they-arent?replies=11#post-25232

ParticipantDoes this mean that the Default theme must now be used as the primary Theme on a site?
Previously, I was able to use a standard WordPress theme (vita) and link to my Community (Buddypress, using the 1.0.1 Default theme). From what I can see now though, if I want to use the Buddypress 1.1 Default theme, it needs to be activated as the primary theme. Is there any way around this? If not, this is a frustrating development indeed….

ParticipantThanks for the Help DJPaul. But, this now leads to a new problem for me.
When selecting BuddyPress Default 1.1 as my theme in General Settings, I press to Save Settings, but each time it reverts to the BuddyPress Social Network Parent Theme 1.1.
What manner of witchcraft is at play here?

October 3, 2009 at 9:01 pm #53720In reply to: how do you post on the wire?
danbpfr
ParticipantDo you need to have a forum to be able to post on the wire ?
No, but you have to activate the wire in the wp-admin->buddypress->component settings.
To post a Wire, you have to go to on the profile page of the person or the group you want to send a message.
Click on Wire in the middle menu.
An input box appears at the right where you can type in your message.
Send.
That’s all !

Participanthi,
i have the same problem as you
i related it here

no solution for the moment
October 3, 2009 at 8:25 pm #53715Jeff Sayre
ParticipantWhat exactly are you trying to do?
The skeleton component is not a working plugin. It does not do anything of and by itself. It is a generic, bare-bones plugin template from which you can create your own, custom BuddyPress plugin.
To work with it, you not only need PHP-coding skills, but also a sufficient understanding of the inner workings of BuddyPress.

ParticipantAnother detail, if it helps. My large avatar and thumbnail avatar are different, each coming from a different group that I have.
My large profile avatar is coming from:
wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/2/1194984513646717809chat_icon_01svghi-2-groupavatar-full.jpg
And the smaller, thumbnail profile avatar is coming from:
wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/2/467b8b4b877c1_fasting-4-18-groupavatar-thumb.jpg
It seems at least one other person is having this same problem ( https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/11-missing-avatars#post-24891 ) though there is no current solution. I’m very grateful for any suggestions.

ParticipantHi – just an update on this:
I unstalled & deleted Buddypress (a few times!)
Then reinstalled BP manually by uploading zip file etc
Did the file delete/move thing
There were a few ‘null’ folders that crept in there somehow and contained element of the new BP theme folders so I had to delete these as well
All appears to be functioning as it should.

KeymasterThis is an issue with the plugin, not BuddyPress. Make sure that you are using the most recent version of the plugin and that it is compatible with BP v1.1.
If you are using the most recent version, then contact the plugin developer and let them know about the error message.
I’ve also moved the topic to the ‘Third Party Components & Plugins’ board.

ParticipantThanks Jeff I did see that. I jumped to the end ““I’ve built a completely custom WordPress theme and BuddyPress themeâ€
I was thinking mine was custom but maybe its just altered. I think I need to visit
““I’ve used the old default themes, but modified the layout/colors—
a little more in depth now that you point it out. thanks.
