I dont’t know which features I’ll eventually add…
As said above, I’m not a professional coder and it is a challenge for me to finish this as it is
But it’s true, it’s a good idea. I’ll see later.
No widgets planned for the moment (only maybe things like last/random classifieds) and plan to make it different from the others as it is completely build on BuddyPress, with its code & features (notifications, member screens vs site screens, etc).
It will not be a WPMU plugin but a BuddyPress component…
boy you guys sure are rough on a noob… ofcourse I meant 1.0.3, it was late…
Thanks Mariusooms. I will give it a try. I thought it had something to do with my server, but was not sure where.
Thanks
…but it was when 2.8.2 just came out and no BP 3.0.1 release?
He means BP 1.0.3 I would imagine. That error has to do with your memory limit in your php.ini. Try adjusting it to 96M.
Take a look at the first few lines of file bp-core-avatars.php in the plugins/buddypress/bp-core directory.
/* Define settings for avatars. [TODO] This will eventually end up as admin configurable settings */
define( 'CORE_AVATAR_V1_W', apply_filters( 'bp_core_avatar_v1_w', 50 ) );
define( 'CORE_AVATAR_V1_H', apply_filters( 'bp_core_avatar_v1_h', 50 ) );
define( 'CORE_AVATAR_V2_W', apply_filters( 'bp_core_avatar_v2_w', 150 ) );
define( 'CORE_AVATAR_V2_H', apply_filters( 'bp_core_avatar_v2_h', 150 ) );
Currently they are not admin configurable yet, so keep not of the changes you make.
Did you try moving the themes to their proper locations and then try reactivating?
This can happen to some people when they do not have the themes moved out from under the /buddypress/ directory. It happens to me each time I upgrade BP and do not move the themes. For most people, however, this does not cause any issues.
Hey, is BP version 3 out ?
Hi,
I’m a new member in Buddypress forums.
I just installed WordPress MU 2.8.1 for a social networking project I’m starting right now. It’s my third project with WordPress and Buddypress (really good web-software by the way).
After installing WP, the first thing I decided to install before starting to hook WP functionalities was Buddypress (v1.0.3). I did a site wide activation and here’s the message I received from WP:
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
But Buddypress is activated and seems to be working fine. All tables have been created in database. I’m just asking myself if I’m the only one getting this error…
The only change I’m actually going to propose is this:
function bp_core_screen_general_settings_content() {
global $bp, $current_user, $bp_settings_updated, $pass_error; ?>
<?php if ( $bp_settings_updated && !$pass_error ) { ?>
<div id="message" class="updated fade">
<p><?php _e( 'Changes Saved.', 'buddypress' ) ?></p>
</div>
<?php } ?>
<?php if ( $pass_error && !$bp_settings_updated ) { ?>
<div id="message" class="error fade">
<p><?php _e( 'Your passwords did not match', 'buddypress' ) ?></p>
</div>
<?php } ?>
<form action="<?php echo $bp->loggedin_user->domain . 'settings/general' ?>" method="post" id="settings-form">
<p>
<ul>
<li><label for="email" class="settings-label"><?php _e( 'Account Email', 'buddypress' ) ?></label> <input type="text" name="email" id="email" value="<?php echo attribute_escape( $current_user->user_email ); ?>" class="settings-input" /></li>
<li><label for="pass1" class="settings-label"><?php _e( 'Change Password <span>(leave blank for no change)</span>', 'buddypress' ) ?></label> <input type="password" name="pass1" id="pass1" size="16" value="" class="settings-input small" /></li>
<li><label for="pass2" class="settings-label"><?php _e( 'Repeat Password <span>(leave blank for no change)</span>', 'buddypress' ) ?></label> <input type="password" name="pass2" id="pass2" size="16" value="" class="settings-input small" /></li>
</ul>
</p>
<p class="submit"><input type="submit" name="submit" value="<?php _e( 'Save Changes', 'buddypress' ) ?>" id="submit" class="auto"/></p>
<?php wp_nonce_field('bp_settings_general') ?>
</form>
<?php
}
If I can’t get this in core, how can I make sure these HTML changes persist after upgrades? Can I make a small plugin to do this?! I’m a real PHP n00b…
Well, you could either delete them from BuddyPress core (not a good idea), or unregister them in your theme’s functions.php file.

Lisa-
The BuddyPress codex is in its infancy. But, there are a few gems you can glean.

Also, look in each of the component folders of the core BP files for a bp-xxx-templatetags.php file. You will find tags that you can directly use within your theme templates.
Do not install WPMU using SimpleScripts. Instead, you should manually install WPMU.

Which version of WordPress Mu are you running? Which version of BuddyPress?
When I want to activate BodyPress I get a Fatal error:
“Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Widget’ not found in /var/www/web196/web/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.php on line 14”
Anyone who can help me?
Sincerely,
Carsten
@M, Please can you extend your twitter plugin with a page for user’s followers tweets & avatar?
bp is still in version 1. Version 3 comes like… two years later!?
Not sure Nicholaszen. Since there’s a lot of activity going on with BuddyPress patches and MU changes, I’m going to hold off chasing any ghosts on this plugin until the next stable versions come out.
I’m keeping an eye on this daily so I’m still supporting it, but there won’t be a new version until the next versions of MU and BP come out, unless any major flaws or bugs are uncovered.
hi all,
I get the following error when trying to activate buddypress… I received a similar problem last week when trying this, but it was when 2.8.2 just came out and no BP 3.0.1 release?
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 23040 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/wpmu/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-xprofile.php on line 509
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/wpmu/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 302
I’ve only been able to get old 2.7 and 3.0 working…
Please advice, Thanks
I don’t know if my first post even got posted. When I clicked on Send Post, I didn’t get any message that it was sent so I’m resending this again. If it did go through, I apologize.
I’ve tried to install BP on fresh/clean install (no plugins activated or installed other than BP) WP v2.8.1 and everytime I activate this plugin I get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_blog_option() in /xxxx/xxxxxxxxxx/hokage.xxxxxxxx.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core.php on line 421
I have hosting on 3 diff companies (Ix, Dreamhost, Hostway) and I always get the same error everytime I activate BP. I tried installing it on my local workstation with a clean install of WP and I still get the same error. I’ve tried searching the forums and I can’t seem to find a straight answer to solve this particular item. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

BuddyPress 1.0.3 site wide activity “commented on the blog post” date not shown. Anyone encountered? I installed in localhost.localdomain via xampp. Help me to fix.
I’ve gone through all the setup successfully to get BBPress installed in teh same database as WPMU.
But when I add the final section (see below) to my wp-config.php file, the logged in session gets confused. Once I log in to the wordpress site , I am fine, but cant log out. I’m also not able to get to the WPMU Dashboard. Also my BBPress site still prompts me to login.
To recover, I am force to comment out the below in the wp-config.php file
/* ADDED FOR BBPRESS COOKIE INTEGRATION
define( ‘COOKIEHASH’, ‘#myhash#’ );
define( ‘COOKIE_DOMAIN’, ‘#.mydoamin.com#’ );
define( ‘SITECOOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ );
define( ‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ ); */
The installation seem to work just fine, added all the salts, and plugins. But just cant seem to find the issue here.
