I’m having trouble getting a translation to take effect. I must be missing something but I’ve spent ages trying to figure it out and gotten nowhere.
I’ve created buddypress-xxx.po and .mo files, put them in both /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/languages and /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-languages
I’ve also added the following code to /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-custom.php:
// Activate the custom terminology for DevelopaDream
define( 'BPLANG', 'developadream' );
if ( file_exists( BP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/bp-languages/buddypress-' . BPLANG . '.mo' ) ) {
load_textdomain( 'buddypress', BP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/bp-languages/buddypress-' . BPLANG . '.mo' );
}
Despite that, I’m still not getting any change in language on the site at all.
My set up is :
- WPMU 2.7.1
- BuddyPress 1.0
- Plugin: bp-Events 0.58
- Custom BP theme (though only customised colour scheme)
Am I missing something?
I’m having trouble uploading an avatar for the admin user. I get the following message;
<blockquote.Upload Failed! Error was: The uploaded file could not be moved to the upload folder.
My set-up:
- WPMU 2.7.1
- BuddyPress 1.0
- Plugin: bp-Events 0.58
- Custom BP theme (though only customised colour scheme)
I tried all the suggestions in this forum post about an identical issue but none of them solved the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas what else might be causing this and how it can be fixed? Thanks.
I agree with DJPaul, but you could get a developer to create theme you want.
However, check this guy out:Nazieb

Might look into it?
I am running into this same problem on my site, except adjusting the privacy options didn’t really do anything. The blogs are still set to “Public” mode, unless there is something else I’m misisng?

@Jfcarter,
Thanks for the answer, In the meantime i found that solution too, and works fine.
But it seems that this is not the re-captcha plugin what i meant. What i meant is the plugin from http://recaptcha.net/.
Now i have in register page wpmu-signup-captcha.php working, and in comments and posts wp-recaptcha…
Anyways if i find a better way i will post it here.

Hi
I have recently installed BuddyPress on my fresh WPMU install.
I am having great difficulty getting the main page of BuddyPress to appear, All I get is the default blog of the installation.
Any ideas????
Thanks
the Shouty Theme has a profile page with horizontal bars: http://www.buddydress.com/2009/04/shouty-theme/
i haven’t tested it with the 1.0 release, but it worked fine with the Rc2.
You can see some profile examples here:

http://community.lads.my/members/ziqah/
Is that above buddypress account official?

@slaFFik–version 0.58 is working with version 1.0… The error you have sounds like you have two versions of bp-events installed… maybe one in buddypress dir and one in mu-plugins or something like that.
this is available as a plugin, i think its called newblog defaults or similar, i think i remember getting it from bp-dev.org
It definitely looks awesome and moving the nav bars to the top makes a lot of sense in terms of utilizing space a little bit better… the default theme is awesome as well though, Andy and whomever was involved with that did a great job…. which isn’t always the case with default themes….
This is a problem on wpmu side, and buddypress is not involved.
Make sure you have setup your virtualhost and followed the instructions when setting up wpmu.
Actually I’m just surprised that no one has yet. I am somewhat reluctant to do so at the moment because things are still changing fast, but now it seems a little more stable. I think I want a much more simple design than most people would, so I can understand why you made it that way. My users are college students, so it needs to function just like Facebook. I am using it for campus groups to post their events, form online groups and start blogging. The main focus in on the events. BuddyPress is exactly what I have always dreamed of because I don’t like Ning.
Loving buddypress so far, but ran into first problem. I got mu and bp installed and got the theme set. Everything seems to be functioning properly, but I am getting an access denied when I attempt to view the test blogs I created. I chose the blog.mydomain.com option rather than the mydomain.com/blog option as recommended. Any thoughts on which folder I should be checking permissions for or if there is something else causing this?
Thanks!
Thanks DJP. I imagine the demo sites coded it on their own then. Any rough idea on ETA for this feature?
For what it’s worth – the customization of this theme was done in 2 days and based on the original default theme. If you are competent with CSS then it should not a be problem for you.
I don’t understand why they didn’t just model it from their own awesome member theme. Even the skeleton member theme is more or less the same as the default.
It’s because the awesome member theme was a customization of the default theme. The default themes have been around since BuddyPress was first made available as a release candidate.
So, as Nicola and DJPaul suggest, if you want to create your own custom themes, by using either the skeleton theme or the default themes you have a solid foundation from which to work!
The skeleton is built to allow theme developers a base to start from. That’s all.
The default member theme sucks, and I haven’t seen anyone significantly modify it. I plan to do so at some point, but I don’t understand why they didn’t just model it from their own awesome member theme. Even the skeleton member theme is more or less the same as the default. You would have to make significant modifications to the skeleton theme itself for it to be anything like the buddypress.org member theme.
Specific issues:
Profile fields are way too spaced out.
The navigation design isn’t really necessary.
The wire should be on top, and profile fields in a small table below. Everything else is mostly unnecessary.
Hey everyone. I run a PhpBB forum right now that has a decent amount of activity. But it’s an older install of phpBB 2 and I’m looking to update the site in general. It’s looking and feeling really old. The internet and the way people use it has sort of changed since my community first went up and I’m looking to do something new with it.
I don’t want it to just be a message board anymore. I’m looking to turn it into a small social network where members can stay more connected and even start their own blogs. So I’m looking at Buddypress as I use wordpress on several of my other personal sites.
But I’m curious, is there a way to take my members and phpBB message posts and bring them into a new buddypress installation? I kinda like the messageboard here and wouldn’t mind giving up the phpBB to switch to it. I just don’t want to lose all the old messageboard posts and make my members sign up all over again.
Ahah, you’ve conceive the idea of BuddyPress MU
I think when BP will be a plugin for WP this plugin will start the game
If you can install it on wp it means you can install it on a single blog, that means you can install it on a mu blog ( a subdomain or a subdirectory as you want )
As Andy says 2000 times, this theme will not released, but tweaks to make a theme like that will be shared
Anyway look at css and make your own
