In reply to: [Resolved] Picture rating plugin for Buddypress
@mercime
ParticipantIt depends on which Gallery/Album/Media plugin you’re using, whether it be WP- or BP-compatible plugins. Some plugins have ratings added onto their media plugins, some don’t.

Participantthanks @mercime, I appreciate your response. Have you tried either of them? If so, which would you say is better to go with. $19 is not a bad deal to keep me from spending a couple of hours modding code, though GPL is always the direction I prefer to go. What do you think?
December 27, 2012 at 1:10 am #148975In reply to: Remove Header From BP Registration page?
@mercime
Participant@hindicell easiest way is to create specific header and footer (matching closing div) files for your register page. To do so:
1. Copy your theme’s header.php file and save copy as header-registerpage.php
2. Copy your theme’s footer.php file and save copy as footer-registerpage.php
3. Open up your theme’s registration/register.php file.
4. At the very top of the register file, change
get_header( 'buddypress' )
to
get_header( 'registerpage' )
5. At the very bottom of the register file, change
get_footer( 'buddypress' )
to
get_footer( 'registerpage' )
6. Adjust codes in your new files as needed.December 27, 2012 at 12:57 am #148973In reply to: No BuddyPress Admin Bar
@mercime
Participant@willusername after you activate BuddyPress, you have to go through the Installation Wizard https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installation-wizard/
Complete the process first before installing/activating BP Template pack plugin for WP theme compatibility with BP.
Re no admin bar, check if your theme’s footer.php file has the
wp_footercall right before the closing body and html tagsDecember 27, 2012 at 12:52 am #148972@mercime

VegasKev88
ParticipantThanks I grabbed it, but the backwards compatibility with non-bp (wp) themes was pretty buggy so I switched to bp 1.6 and just modified my theme to meet bp’s needs.
I see that we are down to about 9 tickets before 1.7 drops so i bet we are less than a couple of months away. Really interested in seeing what custom scripts and plugins I wrote that I’ll be able to uninstall with all the new features of 1.7.
Keep up the great work BP Devs. I can’t wait until I have the free time to help out with BP in the next 6-8 months!
December 27, 2012 at 12:02 am #148969In reply to: Sharing file in groups
@mercime
ParticipantThere’s a document sharing plugin for BP https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-docs/
And that’s about it except for Gallery/Album plugins

December 26, 2012 at 4:04 pm #148947In reply to: Made Magazine Theme Compaility Errors
@mercime
ParticipantGood screenshot. The “widget-like” you are referring to is the sidebar of the theme with what looks to be default widgets
I’ve already gone through step 3 on the BP Compatibility plugin
I see that the instructions of the theme page in Themeforest require you to activate BP template pack plugin “to get the fancy AJAX functionality”, but it didn’t say that you’d have to go through step 3 of the compatibility process — because when you do, the sidebar drops down below content.
You might need to re-upload the clean copy of your theme in server then just activate BP template pack without going through step 3 of the compatiblity process. If that doesn’t work, please contact the theme author for support and clearer instructions since the theme is supposed to be BUDDYPRESS-ready.

December 26, 2012 at 10:29 am #148940In reply to: [Resolved] hide profile from non-logged-in users

ParticipantJust thought I’d add another suggestion – there’s a plugin called Member Access (http://www.chrisabernethy.com/wordpress-plugins/member-access/) which controls access to pages based on whether a visitor is logged in or not. I’m using it successfully on a BuddyPress site. I think you’d have to disable access to the “Member Directory” page as well for it to work ‘out of the box’, but with some php tweaking you may be able to have the directory page show but restrict access to more detailed profile information.

December 25, 2012 at 9:57 pm #148930In reply to: Remove Widget Container/Box
@mercime
Participant@sbla I see the empty boxes in the other BP pages I visited in your site along the empty boxes in the sidebar of your regular pages e.g. http://siliconbeachla.com/about/our-story/ This is a theme issue. Some solutions:
1) Open up your theme’s sidebar.php and make changes posted here http://pastebin.com/GyrrSgbg @emiluzelac ping!
and/or
2) You can also make the change in Step 3 of the BP compatiblity process. If you intended a full page layout for your BuddyPress pages, then open up the BP template files you made the original changes in and remove the line
in each.December 25, 2012 at 6:06 pm #148923In reply to: Ideas for my website, need guidance

Participanthi there i’m not so much of coder but i’m thinking i’ll chime in here anyway but most of what you are looking for usually falls under the umbrella of what plugins normally do. some people like to make their own i not being a programmer tend to go with whats already been done for the most part.
#1 you might want to check out s2 members plugin does everything you are looking for in #1 and more but then again that’s not always desirable just saying you might want to check it out.
#2 what you are saying here seems to be a non-sequiter if you actually meant to say site instead of network however it sounds like you actually want to be giving new users Author or Contributor users roles which is actually just a WordPress thing and has very little to do with BuddyPress itself other then possible a hook into the public profiles but again this sounds like something that might also be handled by a plugin especially with regards to reordering the content. Be advised this information already exists on a contributors author page which again sort of a WP thing and not really a BP thing.
#3 is already sorta possibly already similar to the last thing any post (wp thing) can be set to private or password protected but tying that access to different BP connections once again sounds to me like some a plugin might do.
#4 i don’t follow this one either if nobody can see each other how would they ask them to be friends? if you wanted to do such a thing it once again sounds like a plugin.
plugins that do what you are looking for may or may not exist, you will need to do some research or perhaps build them yourself. Like i said before i’m not actually a programmer but from what i hear WP/BP plugin coding is relatively stratiforward if you are proficient in php.
