    I got the site running the latest trunk version.

    I lost out in 80 USD it seems for the custom template (maybe)

    I’m having issues with the forums loading now. It’s saying page not found.

    See here, https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/forums-not-showing-up-after-trunk-update

    I had some issues over the last few days. Site wide activity issues regarding time stamps and then blank white screen from deactivating buddy press. I had to upgrade to the newest trunk.

    I finally got the site up and running again but when I go to install my theme it’s missing much of my data such as the following,

    Forums are not showing up.

    Groups seem to be broken and not working. (not showing up)

    Members link is not working or showing members returns back to the home page.

    Blog are not showing anything either.

    Site Wide Activity not an option for widgets

    Any suggestions?

    I have tried with both my custom theme and buddy press original.

    This is my error log if needed!

    OK, went in and selected the same theme for

    http://community.urine-therapy.org/testing2/ that

    http://community.urine-therapy.org/testing3/ uses,

    but the changes I made to sidebar.php have affected testing2 and not testing3. I’m actually pretty sure I am using the same theme on both of these test member blogs. Maybe I have to go in and reselect the theme for the changes to take effect? I don’t know on that one.

    Now, why don’t

    Blog

    Members

    Groups

    Forums

    Blogs

    work in either testing2 or testing3?

    Basically, I just want those links to go to the links of the main site.

    Is the logic that I make a blog and people come and make blogs and each blog gets members and sub members?

    Basically, what I am going for is:

    Members join and make a profile page and a blog.

    They can post but not make pages

    Their posts appear in sitewide activity

    When you visit their blog you see only the member’s posts

    There are no sub-sub members (members don’t have members)

    There are no sub-sub-blogs members only get one blog and that’s it

    I am starting to make some changes, but I really don’t know why just yet.

    Okay. I’ve got CometChat and I’m trying to get it to work with buddypress. The developer says it will work just fine with the proper edits to the config.php file so that it can talk to the database properly.

    I’d Like to get it working so I can post the config for other Buddypress Users.

    I have two sets of things that I need help with – I need to make sure I’m calling the database propery here:

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    /* DATABASE */

    include_once dirname(dirname(__FILE__))."/wp-load.php";

    define('DB_SERVER', DB_HOST );

    define('DB_PORT', '3306' );

    define('DB_USERNAME', DB_USER );

    define('DB_PASSWORD', '******' );

    define('DB_NAME', '**************' );

    define('TABLE_PREFIX', $table_prefix_wp );

    define('DB_USERTABLE', 'wp_1_useronline' );

    define('DB_USERTABLE_NAME', 'displayname' );

    define('DB_USERTABLE_USERID', 'userid' );

    define('DB_USERTABLE_LASTACTIVITY', 'timestamp' );

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    I’m pretty sure that all of the above is correct. As I’m no longer getting database errors. But What I really need help with is the FriendList Functions. These are the default functions in the config.php file:

    /* FUNCTIONS */

    function getUserID() {

    global $current_user;

    get_currentuserinfo();

    $userid = 0;

    if (!empty($current_user->ID)) {

    $userid = $current_user->ID;

    }

    return $userid;

    }

    function getFriendsList($userid,$time) {

    $sql = ("select DISTINCT ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." userid,

    ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_NAME." username,

    ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_LASTACTIVITY." lastactivity,

    ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." avatar, ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." link,

    cometchat_status.message, cometchat_status.status

    from ".TABLE_PREFIX."friends join ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE."

    on ".TABLE_PREFIX."friends.toid = ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID."

    left join cometchat_status on ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." = cometchat_status.userid

    where ".TABLE_PREFIX."friends.fromid = '".mysql_real_escape_string($userid)."'

    order by username asc");

    return $sql;

    }

    function getUserDetails($userid) {

    $sql = ("select ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." userid, ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_NAME." username, ".TABLE_PREFIX."useronline.timestamp lastactivity, ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." link, ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".user_email avatar, cometchat_status.message, cometchat_status.status from ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE." left join cometchat_status on ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." = cometchat_status.userid left join ".TABLE_PREFIX."useronline on ".TABLE_PREFIX."useronline.userid = ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." where ".TABLE_PREFIX.DB_USERTABLE.".".DB_USERTABLE_USERID." = '".mysql_real_escape_string($userid)."'");

    return $sql;

    }

    function updateLastActivity($userid) {

    $sql = ("update ".TABLE_PREFIX."useronline set timestamp = '".getTimeStamp()."' where userid = '".mysql_real_escape_string($userid)."'");

    return $sql;

    }

    function getUserStatus($userid) {

    $sql = ("select cometchat_status.message, cometchat_status.status from cometchat_status where userid = '".mysql_real_escape_string($userid)."'");

    return $sql;

    }

    function getLink($link) {

    return '';

    }

    function getAvatar($image) {

    return"http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/".md5($image)."?d=identicon";

    }

    function getTimeStamp() {

    return current_time('timestamp');

    }

    function processTime($time) {

    return $time;

    }

    The First Three Function are the most important to get right and I don’t really know how to edit them so they will pull the right information from the right tables.

    function getUserID()

    function getFriendsList($userid,$time)

    &

    function getUserDetails($userid)

    The instructions for modifying these functions is located here:

    http://www.cometchat.com/support/page/documentation?record=16

    But being rather new to SQL queries within PHP – the instructions don’t make much sense to me.

    Thanks in advance for your help

    Have you tried scattering alert statements to see where in the ajax process things are getting hung up?

    I can’t find a function in ajax.js with “delete-activity”, the class on the delete button, so I don’t no where to put that test. Is that function supposed to be there?

    In the 1.0 version of my site I had no classes at all on the delete link (custom theme). Deleting an item does not have fancy Ajax; the page reloads with “Wire message successfully deleted” in <div id=”message”>.

    At least that works! I’d like to just recreate that for my 1.1.3 version.

    So I tried removing the following:

    class="item-button delete-activity confirm"

    from the delete button link in bp-activity-templatetags.php.

    That kills the ugly “Are you sure?” popup, but it then goes to “Page Not Found’ and when you go back to the page the item is still there. So it also kills the delete process…

    Next trying to spot the differences with the process in version 1.0…

    How do those wpnonce links work? What do they do? There’s nothing about them in the codex.

    Excellent point. Not all is lost but I will take this opportunity to provide some feedback to @jjj and @apeatling re 1.2 in it’s current state

    1. I get the use of the Twitter @ metaphor and adding “mentions” to the filters. Cool. BUT, it introduces a potential UI snag for users. Throughout 1.2 you make nice use of Display Name which users will become accustomed to and identify with. Now, you are identifying users by their user name as well (mixing metaphors, so to speak) as in ->

    John Doe

    and

    @jdoe

    Given people’s tendencies to use whacky usernames, thee is a big risk of confusion when both start popping up around the site. Not sure what the solution is but I think it’s not a trivial point, imho.

    2. Now that the wire has disappeared and along comes the concept of “Send Public Message” (I get it) let’s look at what vehicle we’re making use of and what it may mean to users. As it currently stands in 1.2, to “Send Public Message” you click that button on someone’s profile and you are taken to your own Status Update field with an @username filled in.

    a. the cursor is highlighted just before the @username not after (don’t forget to include a space) – this will only cause people to write the pubic message and push the @username to the end of the message. clunky

    b. You’ll probably need to include a @mentions on each person’s profile page otherwise, you’ll never be able to easily see the public message to @username you just wrote. The key point being, you want this to show up on THEIR profile.

    c. Probably worth considering including a notification to @username of said public message via email (make optional)

    d. Q: Will these @’s be co-mingled in your own status updates and, thus create confusion. Maybe that doesn’t matter and i am overthinking it.On the activity stream, it says John Doe posted an update, when he really sent @username a public message. In Twitter when @ leads a message as 1st character, it has different context than everywhere else in the Tweet. Perhaps -> John Doe sent @username a public message ? or something.

    I know I am getting fine grained here but theses (excellent) feature adds need to be over the top intuitive when introduced or they will breed unintended usages.

    TLDR version: Introduce types of groups. e.g. “User group” type – it has no forum, no “Home” page, just members listing and activity stream. This group added to Activity Stream filters where relevant.

    Would have to filter out custom group type “User group” out of the /groups/directory page & member profile group page.

    These custom group types could be set so they are publicly visible/private to those members involved/or hidden (visible to the creator only). As per current Group privacy settings.

    Could add e.g. “Friends”, “Colleagues” and “Fans” as default, empty groups for each user on user registration. Obviously revise theme to make the “Friends” page (“Connections”, maybe) look like the Friends page rather than a regular Group.

    Different users might create “User group” types with the same name but with different meaning (“Fans” could be interpreted several ways for example). This is no problem as such categorisation is defined — and belongs to — the user who does it. Might need some semantic group kind/type identifier in the code to allow FOAF/SIOC RDF profiles to be able to assigned to these “User groups”.

    The bp-default and bp-parent-themes are theme frameworks for the BuddyPress plugin. They show what can be done with the BuddyPress plugin and I appreciate that a lot.

    For a current project with WPMU as CMS plus BP for an organization, I went with creating a customized child theme using the bp-sn-parent throughout the site including all blogs for a consistent look and feel.

    Aware of the time I could allocate for this project and my average skillset, creating a child theme was the path of least resistance during continuous trunk upgrades of WPMU and BP since I started this project late September for a tentative launch mid to late January. And I would say the time I invested in creating customized child themes was worth it, 10x over.

    At this time, all I have to watch for in my child themes are code changes in the files from upgraded parent themes – header.php, footer.php, sidebar.php, home.php, functions.php, style.css, and some new page templates I created.

    When the new bp-default theme came out for BP 1.2 trunk, I made a new child theme based on that for blog_id_1 (BP install) specifically because of the new forums layout :-) My only question for the new bp-default parent theme is:

    why is it that the only way I could find to avoid getting a white screen when I activate my bp-default’s child theme (with own home.php) is by consistently copying the code of bp-default/activity/index.php over bp-default/home.php ?

    I already set up the permalinks under custom as /%category%/%postname%/ so it went to a blog but not for members and other sections. On the front page of activity stream kept showing the loading icon. It displayed my new post update but appeared with another theme (header). I located the bpthemes under wp-content/themes and everything else in right place. Maybe there is an issue when wp installed under sub-directory like domain.com/wpdn?

    WPMU 2.9 trunk-r2041 and BP 1.2 trunk-r2207

    – BP on blog_ID_1 and WPMU used as CMS

    Feedback: Child theme of 1.2 trunk bp-default theme

    Getting white screen in front end (all sections) when creating a new Child theme based on new bp-default theme.

    – If I add customized header.php and footer.php (with only additional divs), I get white screen,

    – If I do not upload header.php and footer.php but add customized home.php, I get white screen.

    – Note: the only way I got the child theme recognized was by copying code of activity/index.php over home.php in bp-default theme folder, but like mentioned above, other customizations except the sidebar.php, white screened on me. Too much eggnog last night?

    Feedback: Child theme of 1.2 trunk bp-sn-parent theme

    – custom Child themes of old bp-sn-parent theme transition well to new bp-sn-parents theme generally except Forums pages – only one group shown and nothing else

    Hi everyone,

    I made a mock-up of how I picture this “friend” page.. Actually a better name for it would be “My Network” or simply “Home”

    The screenshot can be viewed here: http://www.bp-tricks.com/wp-content/uploads/my_friendsv1.jpg

    The design is my own, but the functionality could be used for the new BP theme as well:

    Left: The activity stream as we all know it from the upcoming BP 1.2. Added the options to filter activity based on “Friend Categories”. This works with a vertical dropdown menu so if a user has many friend categories you won’t run out of horizontal space. It would be cool if the same could be done with Groups. So you can not only show activity from all groups but also from specific groups. This would make the activity stream even better imo! In the example I added a custom filter which could be added by a Twitter plugin. It allows the user to filter the Tweets from their friends!

    The right side is filled with boxes which display useful information for the user. It shows:

    – Quick Links: Links to pages which might get used a lot. Users can add their own links to pages they visit often.

    – Friend Categories: Show the 5 most recent friends from every category

    – Groups: The groups a member is part of and an options to show all their groups

    – Custom boxes: these are boxes that are added by the users or by plugins. See it as widgets but then for an individual user. In my example I’ve made two widgets:

    A quick tweet widget: Allows a user to send a tweet to twitter easily

    An RSS widget: The user fills in one (or more) RSS feeds which get displayed in the widget.

    Personally I think this would be a great step forward for BuddyPress profiles. If there would be a “Profile API” similar to the current group API, which allows developers to easily integrate widgets or activity stream filters for their plugins, it would be really great! Some other examples could be:

    Quick Photo uploads (quickly add photos to your album from your “Home”)

    Submit link (BP-Links widget to quickly submit a link)

    It would be even better if users could also drag and drop the widgets to their liking. I’m interested in what others think of my mock-up, and the way I think the Stream/Friend Categories should be handled.

    Hey everyone,

    I have a BuddyPress installation working pretty well at http://pmasocial.com. I am running WPMU version 2.8.6 and have configured it to use subdirectories. The installation is in the root of the site’s web directory. I am running BuddyPress 1.1.3, and both WPMU & BP were fresh installations. I am using a custom theme but have not modified the core files in any way. I have custom functions. I also have bbPress installed but have no idea how to determine which version.

    The one problem (I’m aware of) right now is that there is evidently an issue with either the .htaccess file or mod_rewrite itself, which causes a redirect to the 404 page whenever I attempt to delete an item from my activity feed at this URL:

    http://pmasocial.com/activity/delete/14?_wpnonce=b3416fe825

    Below is the content of my .htaccess file:

    <br />
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c><br />
    RewriteEngine On</p>
    <p># Tom: getting max redirects exceeded errors in apache error_log.<br />
    # Increasing from default of 10 in attempt to troubleshoot.<br />

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !.*wp-content/plugins.*<br />
    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/(.*) wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2 [L]</p>
    <p># add a trailing slash to /wp-admin<br />
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*/wp-admin$<br />
    RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1/ [R=301,L]</p>
    <p>RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]<br />
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d<br />
    RewriteRule . - [L]<br />
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*) $2 [L]<br />
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*.php)$ $2 [L]<br />
    RewriteRule . index.php [L,QSA]<br />
    </IfModule></p>
    <p><IfModule mod_security.c><br />
    <Files async-upload.php><br />
    SecFilterEngine Off<br />
    SecFilterScanPOST Off<br />
    </Files><br />
    </IfModule><br />

    I am also getting this error from Apache (1.3):

    Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error.

    I have googled and searched the forum but haven’t been able to solve this yet on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    thanks.

    you mean the discussion topics shown at the bottom of the home page.

    well, I am using external bbpress with deep integration to buddypress/wordpress mu.

    The topics are coming from https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-latest-discussion/ plugin.

    Though, if you want to do the same using internal integration

    have a look here

    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

    specifying the action as “new_forum _post” should do that.

    Hope it helps :)

    This is my third Post here within 24 hours and I feel I am spamming the forums already – so sorry about this!

    I want to add a class to the member links in the activity stream so I can direct the output to an ajax layer rather than reloading the page.

    I am making progress in changing existing classes of links to my own (unfortunately the member link does not have any class so I will have to fiddle around with my preg_replace a bit futher)..

    This Code:

    <?php
    add_filter( 'bp_get_activity_content', 'add_ajax_class', 1 );

    function add_ajax_class( $content ) {

    $content = preg_replace('/class="([^"]*)"/i', 'class='AjaxDivBox_Link'', $content);

    return $content;
    }
    ?>

    is what does it for me in the bp-customs.php in the mu-plugins directory however the code changes the link on the FULL site and not only in the activity content.. Is there something I overlooked??

    you should all check out the bleeding edge trunk 2161. It’s pretty stable and likely addresses all your SWA filtering and grouping needs, with the ability to be tweaked further.

    SWA customization really boils down to the ability for a user to choose any combination of “who’s” and “what’s” which is what 1.2 does exactly. so, for ex. you can combine My Friends (who) and Forum Posts Only (what) You can create custom “who”s eg a particular group and add that button or combinations of “what’s’ if it suits your site’s m.o. Combine this with 1.2’s inline commenting and people will never leave your home page :-)

    You can see an example on my dev site -> http://mjpratt.com

    Hello all, before I get started I have spent a good deal of the day searching the forums and trying bits and pieces but I figured I would create a new thread in hopes to salvage whats left of my unproductive day.

    Now the good stuff, I am using a Theme based on Woothemes Fresh News, worked perfectly, so I decide to add buddypress 1.1.3 to the mix and wanted to use my current theme over the BP theme. I saw Andy’s post that all you have to do is copy over the files from bp-sn-parent to my current theme and it would work, so I did that and it works… somewhat :)

    I have uploaded the following directories and files to my current active theme from the bp-sn-parent folder:

    _inc

    activity

    blogs

    directories

    friends

    groups

    messages

    profile

    registration

    status

    wire

    links.php

    optionbar.php

    plugin-template.php

    searchform.php

    userbar.php

    attachment.php

    Then I opened style.css from the bp-sn-parent and copied and pasted the contents into my current style.css.

    /* Font styles */

    @import
    url( _inc/css/fonts/12px.css );

    /* Layout styles for home page, internal pages and blog/directory pages */

    @import
    url( _inc/css/layout/home-page/3c-right.css );

    @import
    url( _inc/css/layout/internal-pages/3c-left.css );

    @import
    url( _inc/css/layout/blog-dir-pages/2c-right.css );

    /* Admin bar styles */

    @import
    url( _inc/css/adminbar.css );

    /* Default example styles — these should be your own styles in a child theme */

    @import
    url( _inc/css/screen.css );

    /// THE ISSUES

    The homepage has the admin bar up top just without any styling (i.e drop down colors, admin bar background) but its there. When I go to a member profile page the admin bar is running down the side not up top where it belongs and the rest of the page has no styling attached. So what am I missing here? None of the styling is attached to my custom theme. I typed all this because im sure other people have this problem maybe this thread can help them.

    Thank you all

    I read over this but didn’t find a clear answer as to whether the activity stream can be filtered by blog. http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

    I’m mostly looking for the following in one list:

    ___ commented on post ___

    ___ posted ___ (post/page)

    All post-activity for all members of a blog who are Contributors or better, and all comment activity for all members in one list (with bp-avatars). I’d also like to be able to have tabs to filter one or the either (as well as additional items below).

    I’d also like to associate the blog with a group, so that it can incorporate the activity there as well (http://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/567):

    ___ joined (the group) ___

    ___ wrote ___ on the wire/wall

    etc.. The feed would still go on the blog.

    “Group wide activity” would ideally show blog-related activity across several associated blogs.

    The widget could then have the options:

    ( ) sitewide (global)

    ( ) this blog only

    ( ) this blog and the group ___

    ( ) this blog, the group ___ and all blogs in the group ___

    The last option would allow readers of blog X to see what is happening on blog Y from a filtered activity feed.

    What is possible (easy-ish) now with a little bit of code?

    What should I wait for the next point release?

    Hi…Big news here.

    But (in parts) bad news :

    I was cleaning the code of my plugin, which is at this point almost finished.

    I was trying to find a reliable way to handle categories and tags : my code is working but categories and tags are in 2 different custom tables (the code is a little dirty); there is no admin page to manage them…

    Well, I was looking at how WordPress was handling them because I wanted the code to be strong enough to keep maintaining my component in future easily.

    Then I start to look at the taxonomy system.

    Then I saw that WP 2.9 will include custom post types…

    And then… I’m half disappointed, half excited :

    Half excited, because “custom post types” means that you will be able to define new post types (-actually, there is just “pages” and “posts”), like, let’s say … “classifieds”.

    That means that you will be able to use the WP dashboard to write a classified like you write a post, and use categories and tags for those classifieds as you do for a post. Those categories or tags will not be those you use for your posts but custom ones just for your “classifieds” post type.

    The wire for a classified is no more necessary as you can will be able to use the core comments system with your classified.

    Idem for pictures that you will be able to upload and attach directly from there.

    That also means that you will be able to search,filter and display those classifieds with the same functions that you do for your posts.

    Well, well, that means that this is a big step for WordPress…

    But this is also a disappointment for me because that means that lot of the time (several months so far – not full time of course, and i’m an autodidact) I spent to write my plugin was useless as now, the WP core will be able to do by itself a lot of what I wrote in my plugin.

    So I think that it would be a wide decision to wait that the custom post type stuff came and to… almost start writing a new plugin from scratches.

    Yes, some pieces of my work will still be reusable to make all this “buddypress-friendly” (attach classifieds to groups, notifications, etc), but 95% of my actual code will potentially be useless as WP core function will do the same, and better.

    But from what I read, we don’t know exactly when all that stuff will came. Some parts of the functions will be available in WP 2.9 but it’s not sure that the whole thing will be usable in that version, neither we know when WPMU 2.9 will be out : in the trac, they say

    I really see no reason we cannot get this into 2.9 since a large majority of the work has been completed already. Even if we only get some of the basic functionality of this into 2.9 it would still be a big help and a basis of something to build off of for 3.0.

    .

    Well… think the best thing to do should be :

    STEP 1 :

    Sleep. Cry. Sleep. Howl. :)

    STEP 2

    -restart from scratches if I feel the courage for it :)

    -write a new plugin that creates a new blog just for Classifieds at the plugin’s activation.

    -All the members of the BuddyPress installation would be members of that blog and so have the capability to write posts.

    -Use the posts on that blog as the “classifieds” displayed in the BuddyPress site.

    -Control the data sent – number of images used in the post, number of chars, post boxes displayed, etc).

    -Add the BP features for notifications, activity, “attaching” classifieds to groups and so.

    -use that blog as the basis of my plugin; then

    STEP 3

    This will be able to make the component ready for WP 2.9 or WP 3.0…

    There shouldn’t be lots of stuff to modify in the code. change the post types of the posts in the custom blog to “classifieds”, move them to the main blog and add specific capabilities to decide who can do what. Example : you could be able, as subscriber, to write classifieds but not posts or pages.

    And why not differenciate classifieds written on the main blog and classifieds written on a user’s blog, if any (ex. company blog).

    STEP 3b

    Add a BP-friendly posting system ?

    So here’s where I am.

    As I said I’m feel a little sorry.

    Maybe I should have though of handle the data from my component from a blog from the beginning. But that when we make mistakes that we go further !

    The good thing is that I learned a lot about WordPress & BuddyPress and that I know now what I can do with it, and i’ll release my own BP project soon or later. And that once that custom post type system will be available, writing the classifieds component should be a piece of cake, or almost.

    If I feel it, i’ll start to rewrite it soon as I explained it in step 2. But I have a lot of work now so I’m not sure I will be able to do this at this moment. I’ll tell you about it in a few days.

    Anyway, RIP (for the moment) my-custom-component :) You can still see some pictures of the work achieved here : http://dev.benoitgreant.be/2009/11/18/classifieds-component-postponed/

    Hi,

    I’d like the members page to have a more creative layout.

    Is it possible to show like 3 members on each row instead of just showing 1 member on each row?

    Also on each row, I’d like each of the 3 member’s thumb, name and activity-stamp to have a gray square block as “background”, if you know what I mean.

    How is this possible?

    Thanks.

    All of the content that is output with bp_activity_content() is stored in the database. This is mostly for performance reasons. If this data had to be recreated on each page load, you’d be looking at hundreds and hundreds of queries.

    You can modify it with a filter though, but you’re limited to string replacement and css modifications:

    function my_function( $content ) {
    return $content; // do something with the content first
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_get_activity_content', 'my_function' );

    You can put this in your own plugin, or in bp-custom.php.

    Getting fatal error in upgrading BP that I’ve not found in forum search (long post, the “help us help you” information is lengthy)

    I followed the instructions in this post:

    http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/upgrading-from-10x/

    2) Which state to deactivate all BP-related plugins (I only had one, already deactivated)

    3) I deactivated Buddy press

    4) I downloaded latest version, uploaded it via FTP using Firezilla and overwrote the previous BP folder

    5) Returned to plugins page to re-activate BP, which is when I received this Fatal Error:

    Hi everyone,

    Is it possible to hardcode a widget into your homepage.. so that you can give it a custom width and are not limited to the widget sizes in your theme ?

    I have a 3 Column layout but would like to have 2 columns at the top of my homepage which shows the SiteWide Activity Feed on the Left and the Paginated Site Wide Post (http://webscripts.softpedia.com/script/Modules/WordPress-Plugins/BP-Paginated-Posts-55471.html) plugin on the Right.

    The left part is easy because that’s 1 big column and is widgetized but I need to hardcode the other widget before the actual 2 widget columns to make this work.. Any help would be greatly appreciated! And please keep in mind that I’m a total php n00b :P

    @John James Jacoby – It seems like the bp_is_blog_page() is returning true under every circumstance, even if I’m in my root directory, not the /blog directory. I would love to be able to “just check one or the other,” as you say, but it seems like the wp conditionals like is_archive, is_home, etc. are competing with the bp_is_… conditionals. I am just looking for a way to check if a buddypress component such as profile, messages, activity, wire, etc is being viewed. If this is the case, display one header, otherwise, display another.

    Alas, my excitement continues to be dissuaded.

    The statement … if ( bp_current_component(profile) ) … seems to be acting just like bp_is_user_profile … they both return true on every page load. The only reason this seemed to work earlier is because I placed the if ( is_home () ) condition above it, so that overrode it until I went to, say a blog archive page (again, there is only one blog on my page … I’m only interested in the profile/wire/activity/friend functions of BP.

    Though it’s still a bit puzzling that the if … elseif … else statement in my actual homeHeader.php file functions as expected in virtually every circumstance, setting the proper menu tab setting.
