Participantit is not intended by default. bbPress use a simplified version of tinyMCE and image upload are not included, for security reasons. Allowing forum users to access the media library of all your site is probably not what you want…
To the above mentionned plugins, there are also BuddyDrive and MediaPress, a new plugin who permit any user to upload media files (photo, audio, video, doc) to his profile page, that way it is very simple for each subscriber to share his stuff, even on the forum, by just giving a link to his media gallery.

Your question is more bbPress related so try asking the guys over at the bbPress forum.

Participanthere’s a working snipppet found on WPMUDev which add a show/hide comments button above each activity item.
To see the button you must enable “allow blog and forum comments” in BP settings.
Add the script to bp-custom.php or child theme functions.phpadd_action( 'wp_footer', 'add_comment_hide_show' ); function add_comment_hide_show() { ?> <style> .single-group .activity-comments ul{display: none;} </style> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(function($) { setInterval(function() { $('.activity-meta').each(function() { if( !$(this).find('.show-comments').length ){ var html = '<a href="#" class="button bp-primary-action show-comments">Show/Hide Comments</a>'; $(this).find('.button.acomment-reply').after(html); } }); }, 500); $('body').on('click', '.show-comments', function(e) { e.preventDefault(); var obj = $(this).closest('.activity-content').next('.activity-comments').find('ul'); obj.slideToggle(); return false; }); }); </script> <?php }October 16, 2014 at 10:08 pm #214682In reply to: [Resolved] Disable @mentions (links) completely

ParticipantOh I think I understand, it is working on BP activities but mentions in activities which concerned bbPress forums (topics, replies…) are still linking to profiles.
Should I ask how to fix this in bbPress forums or should the code you gave me above also disable it?
Thank you very much

The name of the plugin would lead one to believe this is a premium plugin but from what I can gather it is free on the WP plugin repo here:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/paid-memberships-pro/.
@gio91
You may want to contact the plugin author on their support forum here and follow shane’s advice about hooks:

Participant1.) For invites try: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-secure-invites/
To keep logged out visitors from accessing BP pages check out: http://bphelpblog.wordpress.com/2014/09/27/private-bp-pages/
Usernames can’t be changed and if you don’t want users changing their password you would need to custom code it unless you can find a code snippet on the forum or on the net.
2.) You can use filters and you can also try this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-profile-search/
3.) Use bbPress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress/
You will have to search the plugins directory, the forums, and google the rest for your requirements unless someone else would like to take over where I left off. Hope this is at least a start. Good luck!October 16, 2014 at 6:45 am #214459Hugo Ashmore
Participant> I suggest you post this question over on the bbpress forum.
Yet you are posting on the buddypress help forum! 🙂
This is a bbPress issue and there is a trac ticket and resolution over on bbp site, likely that will in the next bbp release.
You could apply the fix manually in the interim if you wished the trac ticket is located here:

Short answer is you will need multiple plugins as well as some custom code to achieve your requirements. If you do enough research you may find the plugins and some code you can use to help in your endeavor on and off this forum. If you can’t write code or invest the time in doing the research to fulfill your requirements then you will most likely have to hire a developer by posting here:
as well as here:
http://jobs.wordpress.net/
I wouldn’t make the mistake of posting an unpaid job on the latter link because I personally wouldn’t waste my time without being compensated for my work but maybe you may get lucky.

I do offer premium plugins that can help with this aspect and if your interested you can inquire here:

Halo Diehard
ParticipantJust realized that the forum posts are mixed in with activity in Simple Press, so if a member posts a blog post or a forum post, both will show on the sitewide activity page. This is just how I want it, so it’s ok there is no forum tab.

I was able to delete 1 title, but as for the other one, I’m having difficulties choosing the right selector. In the Firebug, the code I’m looking for stands under div id=”bbpress-forums” and it is <h3>my title</h3>. I’m not sure what to put in my style.css to delete that <h3>my title</h3>.

Agree 100%. Honest mistake. Didn’t intend to @mention. Just force of habit.

As you have created tickets for all your wish list items I’m sure they’ll receive consideration so perhaps these forum posts are unnecessary?
I’m sure they will. But:
1. I have lots of tickets, I wanted to have a look at my priorities
2. My wishlist often includes others’ tickets as well.
3. This topic isn’t just about me. I also want to hear about other’s top wishes, and I want core team to hear them as well.

Halo Diehard
ParticipantThanks for your quick response, @danbp. I did not include the support information, because I just needed an answer to my simple question; didn’t think anyone would be able to help me with my actual issue, since I am using Simple Press and not bbPress.
Simple Press has a BuddyPress plugin, that integrates some of the functionality of their forums into the BuddyPress activity, and allows the forum owner to elect to use the BuddyPress profile, for example, over the SP one. But I am not seeing any forum posts in activity. I contacted them, but I also was not seeing the forum tab like I see here. I was here for a separate issue, and noticed that forum tab, so I opened this topic to ask about the tab.
Maybe that tab disappears if bbPress is not active, I’m not sure, but I really thought I remembered with the bbPress forums that my member’s posts were mixed in with all the other sitewide activity, and I don’t remember ever seeing a forum tab. I’m on my second BuddyPress supported theme; the first was Custom Community, and now I’m using Matheson.
I’m familiar with how to set up BuddyPress, but thanks for the links. Here is the rest of the info, in case it helps:
1. Which version of WordPress are you running? 4.0
2. Did you install WordPress as a directory or subdomain install? If this is either or, than it’s a directory install
3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? Again, not sure of the question. My url points to the root wordpress folder, but that folder is not in the root of my server, but a few folders in.
4. Did you upgrade from a previous version of WordPress? If so, from which version? Have had WordPress and upgraded every release for a couple of years
5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting. Yes.
6. Which version of BP are you running? 2.1.1
7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version? 2.1.0? I don’t know, the same: Have had BuddyPress for at least a year, upgrade it as releases come out.
8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones?
(Ones followed by asterisk are not active, since I’m not committed yet to Simple Press. Others I’m getting around to testing, or only use occasionally. Yes, I know it’s a lot.)

WP Symposium Toolbar9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? I am using Matheson, a theme listed as working with BuddyPress, and it is further customized via css by myself.
10. Have you modified the core files in any way? No.
11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php? I don’t think I have that file.
12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in? bbPress is deactivated, using Simple Press.
13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files. I’ve searched to try and find these, and I have no idea how to find them.
14. Which company provides your hosting? 1and1
15. Is your server running Windows, or if Linux; Apache, nginx or something else? If this might be relevant, I will try to find out. Think it’s Linux.

ParticipantThis is really a bbPress question, buddyPress isn’t responsible for how bbPress handles it’s functionality. Try posting the question on bbPress forums.

Julia_B
ParticipantOh yeah buddypress is awesome @ecrip! I’m not complaining just looking for ways to make the most of it.
It’s not just posting to the homepage for me, my members would get on better with it if the feed showed post threads more like Facebook does (as explained above). I know that’s always going to be tricky with it working in tandem with the bbpress plugin for the forum element, but hope there’s some way of getting closer to it. It would also be great if I could get the site working in app form so it displays a bit better on phones and sends out notifications to mobiles rather than just emails.
I massively appreciate all the work of the developers, don’t want to sound like I’m moaning here, just trying to optimise it to keep my members as happy as I can. 🙂

I was googling for info about buddydrive and I’ve found a forum where they were talking about that plugin and I believe that forum itself is made in bbpress.
Well, an user giving an advice to another shown up in his reply a screenshot.

ParticipantHi danbp, thanks for your reply.
I need to allow all my members to post images cause I want all the new threads to look like articles from a blog,( so with text and photos ) and other members can keep the article up,replying on the thread continuing posting opinions and photos about that subject: What I’m building up is a community focused on images from members, so it’s a must for me to have something as I described.
I gave a quick look to buddydrive: I saw the tutorial of the developer, but at least for what I got, it seems the plugin is able just to upload file/folder attachments, I mean as links that can be downloaded, while I need my members to upload a photo that appear live in their forum’s replies, new threads and so on.
I’m not sure if I got well how buddydrive works due also to the fact english is not my native language so I often have some problems.
May i ask you just if buddydrive could allow forum’s members to upload photos immediately visible in their forum’s discussions?

Participanthi @caesarhills,
forums are managed by bbpress who brings also the text editor.
This TinyMCE editor – identical to the one you have in the admin or on the blog – comes in a very light version, by default. He’s not intended to be used by any user like the complete version with the media upload.
For a simple security reason, it is not recommended to allow media upload to everyone. If you need such a feature, you have to find another solution to allow your user to share their pictures. This can be done on a profile with buddydrive, or within a group with buddydrive or bp group documents.

Inside bp-legacy we have three folders and one file:
The folders are:
1) buddypress
2) css
3) js
The file is buddypress-functions.php.Buddypress folder contains (activity, blogs, forums, groups, members).
The path you specified doesn’t exist in my directory listing. When I follow your link I get (Failed to retrieve directory listing).
Thanks
