    Confirming this bug, which lead to some drama on our forum. You think private topics are private, but turned out that if you click on the last reply links from a private forum, you sometimes can get in even when you don’t belong to the group. Not funny.
    Also, subforums don’t inherit the settings from their parent forum.

    Hi,
    as you probably know, spam is a world wide disease and there are no ready to use solutions against it. Only tips at least.

    So can you please search and read on this forum before asking for such a remaining question ?

    @sooskriszta totally agree with you on your 3 (relatively) objective tests – this is why I suggested 2 key features that need to be improved in buddypress *immediately*:

    1) spam fighting
    2) fragment caching

    First, 99.9% of buddypress communities have to deal with spam and it is mission critical (who wants a website overrun with spam? users leave, google rank drops, etc.). How many forum threads are opened again and again about people asking for help dealing with spam? how many different methods need to be cobbled together? it just makes sense to take the best practices and build them into the core.

    Second, performance is an issue that is more and more important not only because speed is a do or die issue (there is ample evidence of a direct link between a website’s speed and its success in converting and in pageview counts)

    with buddypress, regular caching plugins simply do not work, we need fragment caching, and we need it YESTERDAY!

    there is already a tentative step in the right direction with rarst’s fragment cache plugin but this should be developed into a full solution and built into core.

    everyone will benefit from improvements in caching and it will make a MASSIVE impact on the overall quality and success of buddypress as a platform

    Happy to help.

    WordCamps are fun. I went to my first one in Chicago and met a lot of great people and learned quite a bit. I recommend going if one ever comes up near where you live.

    For capacity, start another thread. You can @ mention me if you want. Btw I’m not a forum moderator so I’m not really an authority haha. But best to always start a new thread for a new topic.

    Hi,

    re

    nothing new is appearing on the activity stream when I publish a blog post or comment on the forums etc.

    My experience so far.
    Setup local install: multisite. WP 3.9 nightly ; BP trunk 8204 minus tests folder; Theme p2 v. 1.5.3 plugins – a lot.

    New Blog Post, New bbpress topics, Replies to bbpress topics and New groups ARE all turning up in Activity.

    but

    *** New Blog comment does NOT turn up in Activity.

    haven’t properly tested Friendship but can report that so far when a request is sent it turns up properly in “Pending Requests” BUT in the Profile is duplicated sometimes over 100 times!

    SEE https://i.imgur.com/lICG7YL.jpg (- some css still to do-)

    Now admittedly this could very well be due to one of the plugins but with the same plugins in 3.8 / 1.9.2 set-up this does not happen.

    Just a grateful user – no great knowledge. Away till Wed.

    @joesell89 Thanks for the report.

    > nothing new is appearing on the activity stream when I publish a blog post or comment on the forums etc.

    Does this mean that *nothing* is being tracked in the activity stream? Or is it just forum + blog posts that aren’t being tracked? How about new friendships, new memberships, new groups, etc?

    > The site I am running it on has a custom theme and lots of plugins/custom code so it could be a conflict rather than a bug.

    Unfortunately, it could be both – a bug that only arises in the context of other customizations.

    If you can’t toggle things on and off to test, and if you don’t have a sandbox environment – maybe you could check out your error logs to see if anything relevant is being logged there?

    We can then use a BBpress topic loop to loop with the forum id’s and save the data into arrays for further use like this:

    $forum_ids = bbp_get_user_subscribed_forum_ids( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ;
    $topic_ids = bbp_get_user_subscribed_topic_ids( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ;

    for ($n=0;$n < count($forum_ids); $n++) {
    	if ( bbp_has_topics( array( 'author' => 0, 'show_stickies' => false, 'order' => 'DESC',        'post_parent' => $forum_ids[$n], 'posts_per_page' => 10 ) ) ) :

                while ( bbp_topics() ) : bbp_the_topic();
                    array_push ($forums2array['title'], bbp_get_topic_title());
                endwhile;

            endif;
        }

    Hi @batmanfan, I make @hnla’s comment, mine. I’ve never used this plugin before, but I know what it does.

    You’ll have better luck posting your question in the appropriate forum. =)

    OK I have got as far as you, identifying the bbpress object as the one for forum topics and replies.

    Now say that I have a list of forum and/or topic id’s. How do I get the topics for the forum id’s or the replies for the topic id’s?

    Best

    Please ask specific questions on the appropriate forum:
    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/live-comment-preview

    It’s not BP related, a third party plugin, and we’re not necessarily going to be familiar with it’s setup and configuration, also we have no knowledge of what theme you are using or how that’s setup or where they may have put the comments form code.

    @focallocal As far as I understood, you are trying to create a different layout for the Group Home Page.

    If that’s the case, I’d recommend you check the Theme Development Documentation (https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/), you would create a custom template for the Group Home Page and let it the way you feel best.

    Now about embedding a forum in a WP page, I know bbPress have the shortcodes (https://codex.bbpress.org/shortcodes/), you could check in the documentation how to make what you aim for.

    @batmanfan You can make a forum private, public or hidden.
    Check out the doc: https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started-with-bbpress/

    You have no idea what you can learn by reading it. =)

    Hi @iwishiknew,

    what you trying to achieve can be accomplished with WordPress Multisite (WPMU), except for the shared forum part (maybe it is possible, if it is, I don’t know how).

    In a WPMU, you can have, through sub-directories or sub-domains, several high level domain using the Domain Mapping plugin. I use it in my personal blog and it works fine.

    It is also possible to make one user to access the other websites in the network, without having him/her to register again.

    With the foruns, I would create different bbPress instalations in each website. In this way, although the users base could be shared, the forums would be related to each particular domain in the network.

    In a nutshell, I’d assume that what you want is possible, except for the shared forum part. If it possible, please, let me know.

    Plugins you’d use:

    Domain Mapping – https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
    MU User Management – https://wordpress.org/plugins/multisite-user-management/

    Thanks Trifon. But on Sitewide Forums, I can set it to ‘private’ or ‘hidden’ too right? so, just wondering what are the differences and advantages of one or the other?

    Basically yes.
    The Sitewide Forums are available to everyone, while the Group Forums are a private forums for a specific group. Other than that, they just share all the normal forum functions.

    Ok. I use bbPress and BuddyPress for my forum site and like to see if I can let user view their newly created topic post prior to actually submit the post to go live. Should I post this question here or at bbPress?

    Same issue – did you get anywhere with this?
    Basically when I start a Group Blog I’d like the Group’s Forum to go with the Blog but when you look in the admin panel for that blog it show’s no Forums. Maybe I/we are missing something?
    Failing that the next best thing would be to be able to filter the forum(s) appropriate to that blog … with a widget?? I don’t know. Would like to find an answer for this.

    It’s a difficult one to help with, would need to see how this plugin links page selected widgets to page sidebar/page id. You’re going to have to trace back and try and find where this plugin stumbles, which I know isn’t much help really.

    There’s probably an alternative one could take coding things from scratch, but again to be able to suggest what goes slightly beyond what’s possible on a forum and needs detailed look at things.

    @jslom

    Thank you for the update. I look forward to hearing any improvements on this issue as I was really curious about testing Next Gen.

    It’s funny because i had just installed that plugin that night (NextGen) and was waiting around to actually configure it. In the mean time I happened by chance to try the front end of my forums, and found the problem. Otherwise, I would have never found it. never thought it was Nextgen.

    I know there was an update, but I haven’t tried it again since. I unfortunately have not looked into alternatives for galleries. I was doing it old school and just posting pictures down the post, but wanted to modernize a bit, had researched on NextGen, was excited, and then this.

    Please let me know if you find anything new.

    Thank you,
    Jose

    @cukeving Let’s keep discussion in the forums. Could be a theme issue or conflict with a second plugin. What theme are you using? Have you tried changing to Twenty Thirteen theme and checking if the same issue crops up or otherwise?

    Up to now – Yes – NinjaFirewall combine with Stop Spammers, Akismet, Captcha and other plugins of your choice as long they work together and do not slowing down your website.

    The draw back of NinjaFirewall is that you have to know how to set it properly otherwise Editor/Author will have problem updating.

    Other things you can do:

    If under attack — You still need to scan and look for continuous IP/username and manually add them to the Stop Spammers AND Report them to Stop Forum Spam/Project Honey Pot

    If you do not have time to read/check your Themes line by line install Theme Authenticity Checker

    I am the admin, but I don’t know how to check that.

    I also just chatted with my hosting company and they told me all the databases/tables appear fine and could not help me. They told me to try here at buddypress forums 🙂

    Are you talking about changing the group activity stream or the group forums?
