In reply to: Buddypress index.php in wp theme folder

ParticipantHi,
you haven’t to rename it ! bbPress is part of buddypress as the integrated group-forum software and as is, use the BP theme or child theme.
bbPress themes are here: wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/bb-templates/kakumei
If you want to use bbPress separatly as standalone forum, you have to activate the bbPress plugin. The forum activation lets you choose for such an install. (group-forum and/or separate forum) and install the plugin automatically.
The buddypress theme (bp-default) sits in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default
WP themes are in wp-content/themes/
If you use any other theme, it must be placed in the same directory like this:
wp-content/themes/your-theme
or
wp-content/themes/your-child-theme

KeymasterThis is very much a server configuration question, and there’s probably not many people on this forum that know enough to offer meaningful advice (I certainly don’t). If you’re on a Linode 512, there just mightn’t be enough power on your server, especially if you are running other services, too (e.g. MySQL).

ParticipantWouldn’t say it’s normal but can be displayed but not best practise, mods admins generally have access to this level of information, there’s not really a need to inform the general public of someones IP.
This however is a bbPress issue not BP so you will need to raise the mater on their forums support.

ParticipantWe ran into, what I assume here, is the exact same problem that you’re having, but with the BP-Default theme running WordPress 3.5 and BuddyPress 1.6.2, so we tracked down the problem and just implemented the changes from this BuddyPress trac ticket (https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4510) that is set to fixed/closed and will drop soon here with the release of BuddyPress 1.7, and all is well again with threaded comments and replies, as well as fixing a few other quirky problems that we were having.
I’m actually a bit surprised that more folks aren’t posting on the support forums here about these same issues directly related to this. I would have to imagine that it’s happening within a lot of other installs, especially considering that it’s definitely occurring within the BP-Default framework.
I hope that this lead helps you out…

ModeratorIt’s normal in forums to show ip address. Basically it’s telling the user that if you spam we know your ip and will ban you.

ParticipantAddendum to IP address in user profile. It is specifically showing up in Forums—>Forum replies created. It shows the avatar, the username, the role and the IP address. How do I remove that information from the profile

ParticipantI need to delete these stock theme files out of the theme through FTP before I can use the Template Pack plugin?
@neodoxa No. DO NOT delete those stock theme files. This means that you don’t need to install/activate the BP Template Plugin at all. But if you did make revisions on those BP template files, I would delete your rocket-made theme folder in server and re-upload a clean copy of the theme.
The last piece of the puzzle for me is getting a completed Buddypress integration with forums.
You’re getting there. Create a new topic if you have any issues with the forums. Good luck.

ModeratorI’m not aware of a plugin that does what you wish.
But it wouldn’t be that hard, if you know how to code, to write such a plugin or extend the plugin you mention.
You might try asking that plugin’s author to add those features.
Or you could hire someone to make the changes:

Participant@mercime Thanks for the reply!
The theme came with folders called activity, members, etc.
I need to delete these stock theme files out of the theme through FTP before I can use the Template Pack plugin?
Maybe the problem has something to do with having Buddypress and Template pack installed before on the same database… Maybe it is interfering with the new theme’s compatibility?
I think that I would like to just wipe out everything from the past that is buddypress and template pack related, starting completely from scratch. Is there some sort of link on how to do this?
@mercime Thanks for the compliments on my website. It’s coming along… slowly but surely. The last piece of the puzzle for me is getting a completed Buddypress integration with forums.
December 15, 2012 at 11:46 am #147475In reply to: [Resolved] Why no topics showing on home page?
@mercime
ParticipantFont-size coming from this block:
#bbpress-forums ul.bbp-lead-topic,
#bbpress-forums ul.bbp-topics,
#bbpress-forums ul.bbp-forums,
#bbpress-forums ul.bbp-replies {
font-size: 12px;
}
Change that by copying and pasting the block into your style.css file and changing it to
font-size: 14px !important;
or whatever unit of measurement is used in your theme.While you’re there, I suggest that you add this block to your stylesheet as well:
.bbp-body .bbp-topic-title img.avatar,
.bbp-body .bbp-topic-freshness img.avatar,
.bbp-template-notice img.avatar,
.bpp-author-avatar img.avatar {
width: 14px;

ParticipantSite could be considered NSFW.
…depends where you work… 😉
Compared to some help requests I’ve answered, this site’s rather tame.
CSS design is a very complicated subject. The base BP theme’s CSS file is almost 2,500 lines long and has a vast and intricate style tree. Answering a RFC (request for comments) on a given set of changes to it is many hours of work, and is beyond what can be handled on these forums.
If you have a specific problem, eg: “When I set style X to Y, the level 2 menus explode” or “How can I invert the color scheme”, the users here will be happy to help you.
Also, be aware there are sweeping changes in the works for BuddyPress’ template system. The core development team is currently re-designing the entire template system to use page-fragment injection. In theory, this will allow BuddyPress to use almost any WordPress template set – not just ones designed specifically for BuddyPress.
I’d estimate they’re about 6 months away from release on this.

Participantahh ok that explains a few things, Thank you @r-a-y!
I had already done something similar with bbpress shortcodes on this page http://thecashlab.com/forum/ but I had no idea why my ‘group’ forums kept re-installing itself when I had chosen site-wide forums. By deactivating it completely and un-checking ‘discussions’ has has solved that issue. Thank you again.
Now my problem is that bbpress displays smaller text than the rest of my site. Do you know how to increase the size of the text to 16px?
I started a thread about it on bbpress here: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/how-to-change-font-size/

ParticipantMy “current” test users work with bbpress active but I created a test user before I actived sitewide forums. I tried creating a new test account and I’m not able to activate account. The user shows up on the user list but they’re not able to do anything until they can activate account. With the test user account I try setting up, it says please go and active your account by going to your email and clicking on your activation link or something like that. It asks to enter an activation key. I tried clickin active to see if it would work but nothin, I also tried copy and pasting the key #’s I get in the link and nothing worked.
Once I deactivated bbpress I was able to click on the activation link and my test account would activate.

ParticipantSorry, was going to try editing post. Anyway I did a quick search on google and see someone post that bbpress is the problem the activation isn’t working so I decided to give it a try and deactive bbpress. Sure enough the activation is working fine now once I click on the activation link I get in the email.
Has anyone come up with a solution on how to fix this problem? I would like to have forums on my site also.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterI understand, but that still sounds like we’re arguing over semantics. Please don’t mistake my brevity as rudeness. Creating a new topic doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll get a response quicker. Closing similar topics posted by the same person and directing people to one topic helps people find answers in future, especially if they come into the site through a search engine; this happens fairly regularly here.
Since I’ve spent a bunch of time writing this much text: yes, your request sounds possible. Not out of the box, but I’m sure it’s achievable with some custom code (I’ve not seen any plugins that do this).
I don’t know if bbPress — the plugin which powers forums — has a “pending moderation” status for new topics. The folk over at the https://bbpress.org/ support forums might be able to clarify. Lastly, as bbPress is built on post types, it is definitely possible to trigger things to happen when a topic or a reply is made. You’d have to grab a list of users, and then send an email.

ParticipantPaul Gibbs, I didn’t duplicate, I reworded, and posted under the “Installation” section since there has been no replies to my initial request for help. Thought maybe I had posted in the wrong section.
And instead of a slap on the wrist response, and closing of my topic, perhaps a simple answer to my question would have been a better response from a “Moderator”…
Great help and support here on the “Support” forum.. Instills a lot of confidence rolling this out for a client…

Participantthanks for your comment hugo. i really had no choice to blame the developers of geotheme, because i bought the theme and the support for it and i get no real response from them. they are repeati all te time that the support is done by the forum but they do not reply there as well.
thats what really annoys me.anyway, i guess i found a solution for myself and i will try that at the weekend. can you tell me when bp1.7 will be released for germany (e.g. the german language file)?

ParticipantNot really that nice to refer to people in this manner “The developers are really lame people atm,” .
What have you attempted in trying to get your theme and BP running together ? Have you installed the template pack, and followed the guide for configuring files outlined in the BP codex documentation?
If not that is where you need to start then ask for help when you get stuck, bearing in mind this forum is not strictly for third party themening.
Id possible you would be best off waiting for BP 1.7 as this will work with any theme.

ParticipantThanks for the help!! Okay, turns out all I needed to do was enable registration for the log in page to work (smh, self, smh >_>). Everything looks good now! Only issue left is that the forum link under the community section leads to the group forums that I enabled but looks like it is a single forum that can house new topics but not an actual variety of boards. Is there any way for me to make that a link to a parent forum that houses the different sub-boards that I would like? Again, thanks for the help so far. All of this is starting to make more sense to me. 🙂

@mercime
ParticipantPlease do not ping core developers and moderators of this forum for this topic. You are free to download BP 1.7 trunk and check it out in a test installation:
svn co https://buddypress.svn.wordpress.org/trunk/
or get the zip file at the bottom of this page https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunkDecember 13, 2012 at 7:06 pm #147321In reply to: [Resolved] Pages are not showing up on my homepage
@mercime
ParticipantHowever, when I click the “view” button, they redirect me to the homepage of my site.
That happens when you go to the Register page while you’re still logged in. And, you have a page template name Search specifically for searching the site?
Neither of the pages above show up on the left under links,
Not getting why the pages should show up on the left
I don’t have a forum page linked to the forum directory under buddy press pages
Did you activate Group Forums or are you referring to Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin required)?
I installed the plugin that is supposed to walk you through setting buddy press up with your existing theme.
I see that you are using Custom Community Theme.
1. You don’t need to install BP Template Pack with that theme.
2. Don’t know if that theme has been updated for BP 1.6.2 and WP 3.5
3. For testing and general set up, use the BP Default theme first. When everything’s working and in their places, you can choose another theme.December 13, 2012 at 7:00 pm #147318sapna1809
Participanti did it one time but when i update buddypress and other plugins and wordpress then it is not working.
I try again all which i did but not working.please help me.
December 13, 2012 at 1:43 pm #147291In reply to: want to make compatible with bp my theme
Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantPlease do not place conditions on the FREE help you may receive here, this forum is for support matters related to the BP plugin and default theme itself not third party themes, , there is a pretty clear guide to making BP compatible with third party themes and also a plugin provided to help with that, but the onus is on the user to do this work themselves, it requires a basic understanding of markup.
You do have a choice in this process in choosing a theme that is actually BP compatible or selecting one from the long list that Mercime has already worked through to make compatible, but if you are going to wait for mercime to do the work for you then you must wait patiently as Mercime, as do all of us providing any level of help & support here, are busy people with much to get through daily before we can give our free time.
Thankfully BP 1.7 will sort all your issues out with third party themes I suggest you hang on for that release to drop then life will be easier for non coders.
