In reply to: Is buddypress right for me? Job Recruitment Site
yadigit
ParticipantBuddypress is always the right way to go.
I do suggest buddypress.In your case I would use a plugin that allows users to pick a group to join during registering.
1) Employer
2)Job seekerFrom there you can enable forums in the group that will act as posting for employers.
That’s just a quick though off the top of my head.
Buddypress if the quickest and fastest way to do something like that.
I wouldn’t suggest any other way.March 22, 2012 at 9:03 pm #131827In reply to: Buddypress forum to bbPress forum
@mercime
ParticipantComing up sometime soon https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3598 so if you have numerous postings already in your group forums, you might want to use group forums first and wait for the official way to safely move group forums (BP internal bbPress) to sitewide forums (bbPress the plugin)

ParticipantThe other thread is here:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/new-user-is-listed-fifteen-times-in-member-directory/But you confirm it’s NOT a theme issue, so there is larger issue at work here
.htaccess checks out as ok, permalinks re-freshed, no plugins running that might possibly affect things even if remotely so.

MemberThe site address is atlantagardeningforum.com. I have an additional problem now, in that when I try to create a new group it creates multiple groups – then when I try to delete the groups, they won’t delete.
The problem seems similar.

piccollopete
Memberthere were no forums in the old database, just user info…and I’m pretty sure the table was built pre web 2.0 – thanks for the tips, I will play around with it and check back here.

Moderator>point bp to the existing database
You mean point BP to some forum tables in another database? But get everything else from the new site database?
You don’t want to do that.You’ll want to export/import your forum tables to the new site.
Do you have access to phpmyadmin ?
If you don’t know, ask your hosting company.You want to copy over the forum tables to the new site database.
Using a browser interface like phpmyadmin, it’s easy to export / import.
tip: export as gzipSince you are working on a new site, it’s okay if you screw-up the first try or two.
You’ll find out if there is any structural difference in the tables – hopefully not.March 22, 2012 at 1:11 pm #131786In reply to: Cannot Post in Group Forums

ParticipantI certainly agree that this forum needs a search feature. I often find answers on other sites due to this.

MemberThanks, @aces, for the workaround — I forget the ability to do that in Google.
However, I really think this problem needs to be addressed. It was first raised over 2 months ago, with the last reply by @JohnJamesJacoby a month ago. It’s so bleeping impractical to have to wade through all the posts. I’ve posted my issue, but what a waste to have to do that if it’s already been resolved elsewhere.
I truly appreciate BuddyPress, but really can’t make much use of it as long as this is an issue. It would also be good to have paid support available. (And yes, I did post all this on the feedback forum.)

ParticipantHi again Paul, here is the forum post on the site:
http://buddypress.p-h1.com/community/topic/this-is-my-first-topic/
And here is the admin activity page:
http://buddypress.p-h1.com/members/admin/
I did change the url that was /forums/ to /community/ in bbPress, because that was already taken up by Buddypress, even though the forums weren’t completely set up.

@mercime
ParticipantIf BuddyPress is activated and if you have BP-compatible theme, then default landing page when you click on member’s link is activity. You can add code so that default landing page for member’s link is something else. See how to. Btw, what do you mean by “dashboard”? wp-admin?

} `. )my .htaccess file works fine.

ParticipantYou can attach images to Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin) via https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gd-bbpress-attachments/
As for attachments for Group Forums, old plugin has not been updated for BP 1.5

MemberHi Shawn
I have the issue on IE9 – instead of a horizontal menu I get a vertical menu, with the button text at the left, and the button extending all the way to the right of the header image.
When I upload a custom header, the image is repeated – one below the other. I can attach a screenshot if you can tell me how I do that on this forum.
I haven’t changed anything, in fact I had developed a whole website with groups etc and when a friend checked it in IE, he reported the issue. So I tried a whole new install and had the same problem…
Thanks for your time!March 20, 2012 at 8:04 pm #131696In reply to: Forums not appearing
@mercime
ParticipantWP/BP versions? I’ve seen this happen with an old custom theme which was not updated for latest WP/BP versions. Have you done basic troubleshooting like changing to bp-default theme and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress?

ParticipantHi Paul – thanks for the reply!
Yep it does – works for everything: Posting new stories in the blog. Commenting on other people’s profiles. Making groups, etc. The only thing it doesn’t work for is the forum.
If it helps, I literally installed Buddypress from within the latest version of WordPress and I installed the stand-alone bbPress forums from within the Buddypress forum settings.

KeymasterIt should work. Does your activity stream work for content generated in BuddyPress?
March 20, 2012 at 6:14 pm #131682In reply to: Making Denizen Theme Compatible with Buddypress
@mercime
Participant@udotorg Based on initial scan, to make your theme compatible with BuddyPress, you only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your evolution theme folder during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your denizen theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, members, groups, register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. Copy header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the bottom of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
`<?php
$sidebar_layout=get_post_meta($post->ID,’kaya_pagesidebar’,true);
$img_width=kaya_image_width($post->ID);
//sidebar class
$aside_class=($sidebar_layout== “leftsidebar” ) ? ‘one_third’ : ‘one_third_last’;
?><div ID); ?>>
<div id="post-” >` -
