ParticipantHello,
I’ve exactly the same issue !
I upgraded wordpress from 2.9 to 3.2.1 and buddypress from 1.3 to 1.5.Then I installed bbpress plugin before the sitewide forums….
The bbpress forums works well but I want to return to the existing forums. When I click on this link :
admin.php?page=bb-forums-setup&step=existing
Error Message : “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”….
Any idea ?

MemberPlease also… I am open for suggestions as this is only 1/2 half in process and want to get it right this time around. And I will NOT be using multi-user environment at all. So there will not be user blogs or user sites. Just groups (private & public) with forums.
November 22, 2011 at 10:49 am #124802Bumping it up. Any thoughts? What about making tags or categories sync up with wordpress and buddypress group pages?

MemberWow….super frustrated. I’ve completely deleted every file associated and followed all the suggested steps. The forums are still giving me problems….. don’t know why this url http://truejuggalofamily.com/boards is retained in memory. You can see it when you go to http://truejuggalofamily.com/members/activity …
The full page width worked again but the new forums do not follow the full width rule and they’re not syncing with the assigned forums. ie. if I name the forums “Forums” when I set up directory “Discussion Forum”… I create the new page, assign it as the directory, hit view and it’s not there. Can’t find the forums I create on the homepage navigation, I can only view the new forum created after I create it (view page) or with a direct link: http://truejuggalofamily.com/forums/forum/test-forum
No matter how I create a main forum or category….. It’s like its not working. I also deleted every config file I could when I did the new install.
So confused why this wont work….

MemberI’m doing a new install and have deleted all elements of buddypress (i believe). Going to try it fresh…. then add the suggested code. Trying to repair the forums now as well. Thanks.

ParticipantYou deleted the group forums right? Install the sitewide forums and use the forum slug https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/2/#bp-sitewide-forums
Let me know how it works out.The bp.css file from the BP Template Pack plugin is enabled in your site. Do not disable it, just override styles when you want to in your theme’s stylesheet. Use Firefox with add-on plugin “Firebug”, you can right-click the element (div, ul, etc.) and see what style you need to override in your Aristeer stylesheet .. in WP themes, you can change/add styles in the style.css file, I assume it is the same in Artisteer theme.
For example, if you want to make the background darker for the activity comments, you can add this at the bottom of your stylesheet:
`/* BuddyPress styles */
div.activity-comments > ul {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #CCCCCC !important;
}`
Notice the !important I added there (you might want to make it darker than #cccccc). You’d need to use that to override bp.css styles which are enqueued after your style.cssPlease donate instead to the American Red Cross. Thank you. They have great volunteers there

Memberhttp://truejuggalofamily.com/forum/ Dunno what I did wrong, but I did something wrong.
You have the right idea with my BP pages…. (full width is correct) thanks a lot. But…where do I find the text size, background, etc… is that some type of bp.css? If I can be pointed in the right direction I can handle the customization on the css. Text size and a few color changes, I’m good from there.
Bless you mercime! Please give me a paypal account and I’ll send you a donation?

Remember to backup database first https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#uninstall-forumsAs for your Artisteer theme. I will post another solution in a few minutes, but the navigation etc will be hardcoded.

MemberMingle forums does work with Buddypress. It also allows for users to upload images into the forum.(Not just embed them) I have paired Buddypress and Mingle forums together. I am using Buddypress for image gallery capabilities, but I am about to swich totally to Mingle plugins, because I am very frustrated with Buddypress!

MemberNot that I have found. I have spent over 3 days looking for a solution to Buddypress with BBpress. My problem with BBpress is that it does not have any reliable plugins to upload images to the forum. Mingle forums does this effortlessly. I would say that someone at Buddypress/Wordpress needs to address this because the forums are filled with unanswered posts and frustrated users. Go Mingle!

iblbuilder
MemberActually Im going to update here as I cant even get to page two of the forum, the numbered links to pages don’t work!
M problem is now even worse:
1. New members signs up and adds blog at sign-up – it tells them in their profile they have 2 sites, it shows two sites in the My Sites dropdown and it lists two sites in their profile with clickable links, see pic here:
http://6sided.net/images/doublesites.png
So the site lists their own blog, but it also lists them as being a blogger on the main site as well, which is not the case because they don’t have dashboard access.
2. If a new member signs-up and does NOT create a blog on signup, they cannot create on later because the “My Sites” dropdown does not apper to them.
So, two pretty fundamental issues.
Heres my original thread, I cant access it in my browser, it times out.

MemberAlso, when I try to install site-wide forums it says, “Latest Version Installed”…. however, if I try to Uninstall “Group Forums”…. they only appear to uninstall. When I reload the page it goes back to the way it was before I uninstalled the group forums… almost as if I’m forgetting to hit a “Save” button… hmm?

ParticipantThis code pretty much does exactly what I want, which is to display the user’s role/level in forums. I got it to work for Admin and Mod, but I’m a code idiot so I’m not sure how to get it to work with other levels? I’m using s2Member so I have levels that are written to BP/WP users like Working Student, Auditing Student, Free Subscriber, etc.
Tips?
TIA,

MemberMaybe it’s easiest for me to post a picture of the current style with a photoshop of how I’d like it to look. The sidebar is now at the bottom of the page. I need the forum and BP pages full width without the sidebar info anywhere on the page. Again, I don’t mind paying for help and granting you access to WP and FTP. Can speak on Skype or phone to better explain myself. Anyone offer that type of support?
Thanks for the continual effort…

ParticipantBecause it was working before doesn’t mean that it isn’t a memory issue!
To check for that I would use https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-system-health/ and run the check memory allocation limit test.
By the looks of some of those errors the problem may be the zingiri forum wordpress plugin.
Are you sure it’s compatible with buddypress? Googling parts of the error messages show other’s are having problems with it. ( Including https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-22-and-503-on-new-installation – also see: Paul Gibbs’ post here )
If you need to keep it then I suggest you ask on http://forums.zingiri.com/

MemberWhat is it about Profile Edit questions that get treated like they are the plague around here? I came across a lot of Profile Edit questions while searching for my question that ended exactly like this post is going. Complete silence from all in the forum. Is not talking about editing the Profile the second rule of BuddyPress?

MemberI’ve checked out the forums at bbpress.org.
I see others have had similar issues and in their case it seems to be theme related.
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/problems-with-forum-categories-and-sub-forums-in-the-plugin#post-92199 I’m using the default buddypress 1.5 theme so I’m surprised this is an issue.November 19, 2011 at 7:45 pm #124701In reply to: I can’t access my recent forum post

KeymasterI would suggest recreating the original forum topic — “Setting up sub-forums in the Site Wide Forums ” — as there are some inherent bugs with the custom BuddyPress setup here on buddypress.org.
As far as your question about sub-forums with bbPress 2.0, you should try posting on the bbpress.org forums:
