Participantyou are most welcome.
but please take a look again at your code.
It is not yet well formatted yet.
You should keep <div id=”page” > as the top wrapper div and wrap <div d=”top-nav”> only around the navigation.
It is working as it is now, but It may cause trouble at other pages.
So, please edit your code as I mentioned in my previous post/this post.

ParticipantOk, I THINK I have the same problem. My MU installation was ok, but when I try to create a topic in a forum I get a “Page not found” error. I’m racking my brain to fix this. PLEASE HELP

Participanthi there
The problem is , the css selectors for top navigation is not targeted well in style-Orange.css
have a look at this section in your stylesheet
/*
*//*
[PAGES NAVIGATION]
*//*
*/below this you will see something like
#page ul
#page li
approximately 5 rules there.
Change them to something like
#top-nav ul(replace these 5 #page with #top-nav) then open your header.php and put a div around the top navigation.
Give it an id like
<div id="top-nav">
..your original ul/li codes for navigation
</div>and update.
this should work.
It is all because the stylesheet is not correct and the css selectors are not targeted well.

ParticipantJust one more question do you know of a good forum plugin where you dont have to make groups first of all, just a good old standard forum
vanicon
ParticipantYou mean that my office smells of machine translation, it is true. I have been following this plugin and have always wished that he had worked on a simple wordpress, but the Internet was not the solution, and wordpress mu I do not like, and I think the engine for social networking little weak (but this is only my personal opinion) , but the plugin itself buddypress can work wonders, but only for a simple wordpress. Of course we are not standing still and slightly altered this plug-in, hard to write him a simple wordpress, but some errors were, and blogs all set up on a different principle. truth will automatically create them failed, but still worked, did not work for some reason, some functions of the transfer of messages between users and groups, and something else. And when I heard that Andrew has decided that the problem of course, turned here, as at present a couple of projects are not ready, just because of the absence of such plagina.Etot plugin will be needed not only to me but I’m sure many other users. I have already raised this issue at one of the forums and site for translators buddypress into Russian Vyacheslav, and very glad that the problem is finally solved

ParticipantThanks for this post because what you’re describing, I’ve been basically going through the same motions. We have a band fan site that has been on a single wp install with just news with almost 1300 members. We wanted to give more interaction so we’re converting to buddypress. I really didn’t want them to be able to create blogs so I really just wanted the bp functionality but when I saw that the only group interaction was really just the wire and forums, I wanted a little more. With this thread, I’ve already implemented some of these ideas. I didn’t go with the p2 theme idea because I want the themes alike across all blogs but I did find the posthaste plugin that allows you to add a quick press like post box to the group blog page while still using your existing theme. It doesn’t have the ability to insert images but I’m looking for a workaround on that.
Basically I just wanted to second everything that he’s said in that these ideas are basically to give a little more features than the default bp groups while not giving them full blown access to create blogs.
Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

ParticipantOK, I might be suffering from this if I knew what “this” was. My MU homepage works fine. When I go to the blog (there’s only one for now) homepage it gives me header/footer/sidebar, but 404 where the body should be.
In the sidebar, I can click on my about page and other pages I’ve added which show up with the mod-rewrite rule I made in admin. On the main homepage screen, I can click on the links for posts and the show up fine.
It’s only the blog homepage that I get these errors. My setup is a bit funny.
Root directory has 2 files wp-config and htaccess and 2 folders /core and /wp-content. The blog homepage is pointing to /core whereas the site homepage is correctly root. I’m still testing on XAMPP for windows.
Yes I did ask on MU forums, but since it came up here, I’d thought I’d ask.

ParticipantI’ll try, thanks. But people shouldn’t have to add breaks manually. And it’s not just a description thing. Also a problem in forums:

KeymasterIf it’s an old group, you must first disable then re-enable the group forum in the group admin menu.
December 29, 2009 at 7:37 pm #59694In reply to: Buddypress Theme with WPTHEME
@mercime
ParticipantThe bp-default and bp-parent-themes are theme frameworks for the BuddyPress plugin. They show what can be done with the BuddyPress plugin and I appreciate that a lot.
For a current project with WPMU as CMS plus BP for an organization, I went with creating a customized child theme using the bp-sn-parent throughout the site including all blogs for a consistent look and feel.
Aware of the time I could allocate for this project and my average skillset, creating a child theme was the path of least resistance during continuous trunk upgrades of WPMU and BP since I started this project late September for a tentative launch mid to late January. And I would say the time I invested in creating customized child themes was worth it, 10x over.
At this time, all I have to watch for in my child themes are code changes in the files from upgraded parent themes – header.php, footer.php, sidebar.php, home.php, functions.php, style.css, and some new page templates I created.
When the new bp-default theme came out for BP 1.2 trunk, I made a new child theme based on that for blog_id_1 (BP install) specifically because of the new forums layout
My only question for the new bp-default parent theme is:why is it that the only way I could find to avoid getting a white screen when I activate my bp-default’s child theme (with own home.php) is by consistently copying the code of bp-default/activity/index.php over bp-default/home.php ?

ParticipantHave you created a Group in your install? Forum topics are associated with Groups. If the issue is other than that, it would help if you shared what WPMU and BP versions you are using.
December 29, 2009 at 5:02 pm #59680In reply to: how to access to bbpress admin from buddypress??
@mercime
ParticipantYou cannot use the admin panel of bbPress if you use the one/two click BuddyPress installation. If you want a bbPress admin panel and want to install bbPress plugins, you need to install bbPress externally, then use the WordPress integration plugin, then you go to BuddyPress Forum component and click on “I want to use exisiting bbPress forum”

ParticipantThanks for taking the time to post some ideas about monetizing. I have been looking into all of those angles, except the documentation one is new, thank you.
I am definitely going to do paid support with a forum, and probably going to sell a “pro pack” that is loaded with advanced features like remote submit (reddit, digg), ad support, rich media pack, theme pack, etc.
The only site I have found that lets me get up and running quickly is wpplugins.com. I would rather do it all in house, but do not want to spend too much time dealing with all of the support software and payment solutions.
If anyone knows of other sites like wpplugins.com, please lmk!

Keymaster@mrmaz Why not start up premium support by means of a forum? Or perhaps offer more advanced tutorials or docs for paying supporters. Quite a few people have found this to be a successful model, and it doesn’t shut everyone out – reducing overal interest.
December 28, 2009 at 10:07 am #59588In reply to: Donations on BP.org, what do you think?
Andy Peatling
KeymasterPerhaps when this site is updated to 1.2 (after release) and plugin developers can create groups for their plugins, we can attach a paypal donate link. That way each plugin developer(s) will get their own group, activity stream, forum, donate link and perhaps some of the other great extensions being released as plugins.

ParticipantI have been doing some debugging. I have modified plugin.php to record how much time takes (using microtime) to execute every do_action() call.
Look at the results following, it doesn’t look like a code performance problem of any plugin, or at least, it doesn’t happen every time.

peterverkooijen
ParticipantExcellent John James Jacoby!
I was looking for a solution for this last Fall. You can see what I came up with here (How to synchronize firstname+lastname between xprofile field_1 and wp_usermeta upon registration). It’s part of a bunch of other stuff.
But your code looks a lot more sophisticated. I’ll try to incorporate it into my upgrade to 1.1.3.
Can something like this please become part of the core?

ParticipantI never found a solution to this using the bp function calls. I just wrote a custom query joining the tables that returned the data to build the correct links.
