ParticipantYes, I’d love to team up on this Boone Gorges. That’s the type of functionality I plan to add to the next versions.

Simon Wheatley
ParticipantThe plugin is proof of concept code, you need to decide under what circumstances you want to allow group creation. At the moment, as you say, everyone is restricted… perhaps you want to base it on user capabilities? Have a look at the WordPress function current_user_can (support forum tag) and use this in rgc_validate_group_creation something like this (untested):
// Stop the creation of a group unless the current user can manage optionsfunction rgc_validate_creation( $allowed, $group_details ) {
// User is OK to continue if they can manage options
if ( current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) )
return true;
// Otherwise they can't
bp_core_add_message( 'Sorry, you are not allowed to create groups.', 'error' );
return false;
}

Just kidding, it is a shame, since _ck_ has many plugins.
I suppose once a plugin has successfully been converted to buddypress by someone, we could track the changes necessary to make compatible bp-forum plugins? I have no idea how hard it would be to make them compatible…not looked at it myself.

ParticipantI’ve talked to _ck_ and s/he was not interested in developing for Buddypress.
Not even with payment for it. Bad news.

ParticipantSee my response in this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/single-blog-post-display-issue-new-11-install#post-25249
oracleappscommunity has just created a ticket. You can add more to the ticket if you feel that it will help isolate the bug.

ParticipantAnd I gave the answer in that same thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-says-themes-are-missing-but-they-arent#post-25240
If you want to learn more about why the theme architecture was changed, you can read this forum sticky: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/details-about-the-new-theme-architecture
Or, read this blog post by Andy: https://buddypress.org/blog/news/the-new-buddypress-theme-architecture/

ParticipantIt will not get fixed if someone does not take the time to post a new ticket to Trac.
We cannot monitor the mention of all possible bugs in all forum threads. So, whenever you think you have discovered an issue, post in the proper forum first. After a little discussion, if it appears that it could very well be a bug, then create new ticket in Trac. Provide as much detail as you can so that the bug can be reproduced and isolated.
You log into Trac using the same login credentials as you do for the BuddyPress forums.

ParticipantI’ve just faced this same question in this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-says-themes-are-missing-but-they-arent
The answer seems to be yes, but it feels like quite a convoluted process. I understand the ethos from a design standpoint as to why they want a Buddypress theme used as the primary theme on ones WordPress site, but I really feel that this is an inflexible approach for those who have well-established WordPress sites already active.

October 3, 2009 at 9:01 pm #53720In reply to: how do you post on the wire?
danbpfr
ParticipantDo you need to have a forum to be able to post on the wire ?
No, but you have to activate the wire in the wp-admin->buddypress->component settings.
To post a Wire, you have to go to on the profile page of the person or the group you want to send a message.
Click on Wire in the middle menu.
An input box appears at the right where you can type in your message.
Send.
That’s all !

ParticipantAnother detail, if it helps. My large avatar and thumbnail avatar are different, each coming from a different group that I have.
My large profile avatar is coming from:
wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/2/1194984513646717809chat_icon_01svghi-2-groupavatar-full.jpg
And the smaller, thumbnail profile avatar is coming from:
wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/2/467b8b4b877c1_fasting-4-18-groupavatar-thumb.jpg
It seems at least one other person is having this same problem ( https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/11-missing-avatars#post-24891 ) though there is no current solution. I’m very grateful for any suggestions.

Jeff Sayre
ParticipantThis is an issue with the plugin, not BuddyPress. Make sure that you are using the most recent version of the plugin and that it is compatible with BP v1.1.
If you are using the most recent version, then contact the plugin developer and let them know about the error message.
Please read this thread from the developer about his plugin: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/si-captcha-for-wpmu-and-buddypress#post-24353
I’m moving this thread to the proper forum section, “Third Party Components & Plugins”.

ParticipantI am having the same issue. WPMU 2.8.4, BP 1.1. I have BP in a subdomain but the above person does not; same issue, however. The only plugin running is BP. Default theme. The following links are working correctly:
/blog
/forums
The following links are NOT working:
/members
/groups
/blogs
The links that are not working simply go to the main page. If I try a direct URL, to my inbox for example, I am redirected to the main page.

Participant“Private and hidden forum posts do not show up in the forums directory regardless of your logged in state. This will probably change in the future but there was not enough time for 1.1.”
why do you want to change this in the future ? I do not see a logic in making Private and Hidden Forum-posts showing-up in publicly visible “Forum Topic Directory”.
If it does, then “Private-Groups” are not private anymore……

InactiveOK Andy solved this one for me in this thread. The answer is this:
xprofile_get_field_data( $field_name_or_id, $user_id );Where
$user_idis (in this case)$memberand$field_name_or_idis (in my case)61. I got the number by looking at the Profile Field I was after in Firefox with the Web Developer toolbar and it showed me the number in the class. I can’t work out another way of seeing a custom profile field’s id.. Off we go!!!October 3, 2009 at 2:01 am #53662In reply to: Single blog post display issue – new 1.1 install

KeymasterPrivate and hidden forum posts do not show up in the forums directory regardless of your logged in state. This will probably change in the future but there was not enough time for 1.1.
There is a bug that will not allow you to post on private and hidden group forums in 1.1, this is fixed in trunk and will be in 1.1.1 which will be out soon.
