    thanks for the wonderful fix :)

    I solved this by creating a bbPress theme that simply made everything invisible (css “display: none;” on everything) and redirected the users to the start page of my community by means of a meta refresh redirect.

    Since I am so extremely witty, I called it “Kakumei None”. You can download it here: http://dropbox.jobjorn.se/kakumei-none.zip

    My Group forums were working fine until I installed the BP update today. Now it won’t let me post from groups at all. Anyone else having this problem and have a fix?

    One error message I’m getting is:

    group_obj is undefined in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bp-forums-templatetags.ph

    This is truly beyond the scope of the BuddyPress forums. But, since I had some issues when I attemtpted to install WPMU on MAMP several months ago, I feel your pain.

    I wrote an article (months ago) for installation of WPMU on MAMP (not MAMP Pro). But, I’m not yet finished with updating my new website, so it is not yet posted.

    Here is the crux of the article. I’ve never tried this with XAMPP, so use at your own risk:

    1. Make sure you have the most recent, stable version of WPMU and that it is copied into MAMP where you want it to be.
    2. Read the readme.txt file that comes with WPMU
    3. Do not manually edit either of these two files:

      • wp-config-sample.php file
      • htaccess.dist file

      Unlike single version WordPress, the WPMU installer will take care of creating the proper files using these two as templates. If you need to make changes to either of these files, do so after the installation has succeeded.

    4. WPMU wants to run on Apache port 80. Since OS X comes with a copy of Apache set to run on port 80, you will have issues if OS X is automatically configured to start its own copy of Apache on boot. If so, you’ll have to change that. Check to make sure that the Web Sharing checkbox is unchecked in System Preferences > Sharing
    5. Now fire up your browser and go to localhost:80/index.php and follow the prompts. The path will be different if you’ve installed WPMU in a subdirectory. If so, just add the subdirectory to the url.
    6. In the field for Server Address, you will see the recommendation to use localhost.localdomain instead of localhost. That did not work for me. Instead, I found that I had to use the internal IP address of my computer (a.k.a the local IP address which is always 127.0.0.1 ). I tried the localhost.localdomain address several different times with no success. If you have already tried this, make sure that you delete the wp-config.php file and start all over.
    7. If you’ve done this properly, you should now be seeing a friendly “Installation Finished!” screen. Follow the instructions. Write down your password.
    8. Now, manually enter the address for the admin login screen into your browser’s address bar. If you just hit log in, you may have issues. So, if you are using 127.0.0.1 as the Server Address, you would enter in the browser 127.0.0.1/wp-login.php. The path will be different if you’ve installed WPMU in a subdirectory.

    Good luck!. Let me know if this works for you.

    I sent this to Arturo, but I thought I’d post it on the forums as well!

    Here’s my complete bbPress functions.php code so far:

    function recreate_bb_admin_bar() {
    echo '<div id="wp-admin-bar"><ul class="main-nav">';
    bp_adminbar_logo();
    bp_adminbar_login_menu();
    bp_adminbar_account_menu();
    bp_adminbar_blogs_menu();
    bp_adminbar_notifications_menu();
    bp_adminbar_authors_menu();
    bp_adminbar_random_menu();
    echo '</ul></div>';

    }

    add_action( 'wp_footer', 'recreate_bb_admin_bar', 8 );
    add_action( 'admin_footer', 'recreate_bb_admin_bar' );
    add_action( 'wp_head', 'bp_core_admin_bar_css', 1 );

    Have fun!

    Can someone confirm that they are not having issues with new groups posting to group forums without using the settings hack above?

    If you have an idea to improve BuddyPress functionality, please submit it to Trac as an “enhancement” ticket. You log into Trac with the same username and password as on this forum.

    I’m having the same issue. I have BP and bbpress integrated. In bbpress, the forum poster currently displays the link to the BP profile. This is good. However, I also want to show the poster’s BP avatar as well, just as it is showing in this forum. How is this done?

    I mean to use

    define(‘CUSTOM_USER_TABLE’, $table_prefix.’my_users’);

    define(‘CUSTOM_USER_META_TABLE’, $table_prefix.’my_usermeta’);

    to alter the database to use the IPB usertables….

    First off, if you suspect or actually know that a given plugin is causing issues, you should contact the plugin developer and ask them. They may be aware of the issue and already have a new version in the works, or they may not be aware of any issues and thankful for the report.

    Second, concerning an official listing of BuddyPress plugins, you can either find them here or search the WordPress plugin repository for the tag word “BuddyPress”. On the repository page for a given plugin, it will tell you on which versions of WPMU and BuddyPress the plugin has been tested.

    Finally, as far as a listing of plugin conflicts, I do not know of any. You can search the forums here and find various threads indicating potential conflicts. But, since all the plugins are developed by 3rd-party sources, it is up to the users to figure such things out–with the help of forums such as this, of course!

    Jeff, thanks for explaining where the data is stored. I will check my database and see if I notice anything unusual.

    As far as installation, no, the site was installed and configured on June 1, and then my students started accessing on June 2. That’s why this has seemed so odd to me that some students show all info and most don’t.

    I will mention that I didn’t do the install. I just set up hosting with TMD Hosting, and they offer complete BuddyPress install (with BBPress) as part of their service. My previous hosting was not configured to handle BuddyPress, so I had to go host shopping. I don’t have previous experience with BuddyPress, but I’ve been using WP for years, and as far as I can tell from the backend, everything seems to have been installed correctly, and the BBPress forums correctly integrated with BuddyPress. The only hitch has been with this user info.

    Okay, I see that you have seen this thread ( https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2572 ). You have tried everything in that thread but can still not get the buddybar to show. Is that correct?

    Welcome to BuddyPress!

    Just so that you know the process around here, please read this thread.

    In general, it is not effective to post a new support question in a thread that is marked as resolved. Furthermore, it is not effective to post a support question in a thread that has not had any activity for a month or longer. This thread fits both criteria.

    So, I’ll provide some direction here, but if you are still having issues after reading this, then just start a new thread and we will see what we can do!

    Possible solutions:

    1. Make sure in “Path” that you have set the directory in which WPMU is installed.

    2. Regarding the “/%postname%/” permalink structure, read this: https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Using_only_.25postname.25

    Watch out for the new Welcome Widget HTML entity encoding, it got me and I had to turn it off because I had HTML in my Welcome widget.

    See the release notes or forum comments for where to take it out from Andy

    Merhaba infinitive!

    It’s probably best if you post support requests in English, at that appears to be the most common language by far on this forum. I have utmost respect for people who can also talk my language, and I am shamed often that I can’t talk yours. I’ve run your post through Google Translate and have put the translation below, to try to help people who are looking to help you. Thanks for your post.

    Okay, here are the answers to the questions that I know will get asked. Hope this helps.

    1. Which version of WPMU you are running: 2.7.1

    2. Whether you’ve installed WPMU in a subdirectory or as a subdomian: it is installed in the root folder. I also did a previous installation in a subdirectory. Both results were the same.

    3. Whether you upgraded from a previous version of WPMU. If so, from which version: No, first time installed wpmu

    4. Whether WPMU was functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress: yes. If you are defining “functioning properly” as using the multi-forum capability, then I wouldn’t know….I didn’t want WPMU for that. I just wanted WPMU so I could use BP.

    5. Which version of BuddyPress you are running: v1.0. Installed myself….didn’t use any scripts.

    6. Whether you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated, No. BP was the only plugin that was installed.

    7. Whether you are using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes: standard. I attempted to use the standard BP themes, and yes, I made sure that all files had been moved to the appropriate locations as per the instructions that were given.

    8. If running bbPress, which version: ????? What’s bbPress?

    9. A list of any errors in your server’s log files? Didn’t look. You’re talking to a novice. Wouldn’t know how to look at any server log files. I’m using Yahoo if that tells you anything.

    Oh yeh…one other question:

    Since I’m using WP 2.8-beta2 (upgraded from 2.7.1 and everything has worked fine), is there any chance that BP will work with the new release of WP 2.8 without the need for a .htaccess file? I really don’t need the mult-forum capability, anyway….I just wanted to use BP.

    Thanks for any help I can get with this.

    Well, the clean install fixed whatever was broken. I’m having some troubles getting forum integration going (it’s not seeing the bbpress files) but I’m not going to start that up here! (I may just wait until bbpress is more stable before moving forward w/integration since I kinda think it’s possible that’s where my problems came from anyway.)

    So to anyone having these kinds of weird ajax-y-ish problems? I recommend a clean install! I’m not going to mark this as resolved since @Rogercoathup may still want to be working on it — I’ll let him click the switch.

    Thanks for your help, Jeff!

    Several members have reported issues when installing BuddyPress via SimpleScripts. Did you install BP this way? If so, please read this thread and see if that helps.

    If you did not install BP using SimpleScripts, then you should start a new thread. Make sure that youprovide this information in your first post.

    Anointed, it allows you to tag members, groups and blogs in the same way you tag blog posts or forum posts.

    Chouf1, I’ll update the readme.txt to say ‘Your currently active bp theme’.

    @jeff:

    I’d already marked two of those threads as resolved, and posted what was causing the problem.

    They weren’t problems related to this.

    I have 2 unresolved threads open: the media library duplicate declaration problem, and the failure to add a friend issue.

    I’ve responded to your feedback on these in thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3000

    I appreciate the helpful responses from anyone on this forum (moderators and regular users alike). Thanks in advance.

    @jeff Still no go. I’m going to back up my database and do a clean install again. I’m going to stop at the forums addition and double-check everything and I’ll let you all know. I think it might be the only answer so I’m just waiting ’til I have time to do it. :)
