He won’t be back I bet. He intentionally didn’t use the support forum to share what was his problem, he just wanted to ruin someone else’s work.
@djsteveb
My plugin does everything you mentioned, it has nice error messages that inform users how to choose an acceptable password and uses wordpress’s built-in js password strength checker, zxcvbn so I would be surprised if it failed.“and people are tired of being frustrated by technology”
I can understand this, I’m also tired of being frustrated by not having a Porsche but I still don’t expect others to provide it for free :). Users should contribute to the development via the support forum first if they want to use open source stuff.@bp-help
Yes, I know. I also got a feature request from someone who claimed the plugin worked well, but he/she still didn’t bother with leaving a good review. Just the feature request 🙂 I agree with you, it seems WP plugin development is not something that’s worth the time.How did you remove yours from the WP repo? Just delete the files? But what happens to people who currently use the plugin?

djsteveb
Participant@kjgbriggs – just took a look at your oblivion thing you like – it appears to be the forums layout you are concerned with here – which may end up being more of a “bbpress” theme-ing issue – not so much buddypress… last I checked you can add “bbpress” as an auto-addon for buddypress – but if it’s not profiles and activity stream stuff – you may need to look up some “bbpress” specific theme things if you run into issues – not sure if they go over all that at bbpress dot org these days or not.. I have not checked those forums / docs in years.

ParticipantSorry for not providing enough info.
My main theme is called Divi and is created by Elegant Themes.
The theme I want to use just for BuddyPress stuff is called Oblivion and is created by Sky Warrior Themes.An example of the BuddyPress forums nd layouts is here on the Oblivion demo:
http://skywarriorthemes.com/oblivion/forums/
I just want the styling for the BuddyPress and BBPress stuff from Oblivion in Divi.
I did a bit of Googling and came to the conclusion that the best way to do this was to use a Child Theme.
Divi is updated quite a lot so I would either have to not update anymore or lose the styling if I were to add the styles to Divi directly.
There is little information I can find on having a child theme for specific things such as buddyPress though and I am unsure of how to do it.

ParticipantI just did, but it did not work. I looked at the function, saw $groups_template, and added the following inside and outside of the loop:
var_dump($groups_template);Here’s the code from buddypress.php:
<? /* Template Name: BuddyPress */ get_header(); $plp_user_check = plp_user_check($current_user); var_dump($groups_template); echo "<br>Course Path: " . bp_get_group_slug(); include("forums-header.php"); ?> <? if( have_posts() ): ?> <? while( have_posts() ): the_post(); var_dump($groups_template); echo "<br>Course Path: " . bp_get_group_slug(); the_content(); endwhile; ?> <? else: ?> <div id="post-404" class="noposts"> <p><? _e('None found.','example'); ?></p> </div><!-- /#post-404 --> <? endif; wp_reset_query(); ?> </div><!-- /#bodyContainer <? get_footer(); ?>The first var dump just returned “NULL”. The second one returned:
object(stdClass)#644 (1) { ["group"]=> NULL }July 23, 2015 at 3:28 pm #242165jrunfitpro

Participant@Djsteveb Sorry for the confusion. I’ll try to explain it better. Ok so at /sbs I’ll be running a site for an online 32 man Madden league. At /rust I’ll be running a site for my rust server. What I’m wanting to do is have the buddy press signups separated by page. So if you sign up on /sbs you belong to that site and have access to post only those forums and member list for /sbs. And if you make a clan (via a theme that supports buddy press) that clan only applies to /sbs. Then the same applies for /rust. You sign up there and that’s where you belong. As of now they’re all meshed together as one member list.

Participant@monk3 you seem to want to persist in what can only be described as an abrasive, mildly antagonistic manner in the response above. I suggest that you probably have lost the interest of the two members who did respond and might have continued to had you not closed them down with remarks like useless response such as, “It depends”.
Good luck finding those answers elsewhere, a less confrontational attitude might get you better results though regardless of the initial responses you may get, remember on most forums such as this people with the knowledge that you seek are volunteers, not paid and not obliged in any way to help, common courtesy thus is generally expected.
Closing this thread.

Participant@shanebp: There wasn’t anything rude in my response. If anything, Henry’s didn’t address my question as I stated it,. Instead, he rephrase it, which could be considered inconsiderate.
Had I wanted to ask the question he moved my question to, I would have asked it. I didn’t. So I moved what I could have considered a rude move on his part, back to my original concern. As for your response, … “It depends”; it is not an answer. Consider the context here: We are in a BuddyPress forum que. If you haven’t figure it out yet, I am querying to how better install BuddyPress, on a domain or a subdomain. It is obvious that it has to be on a WordPress installation. (Everyone who doesn’t know that, hold up your hand….. Just as a thought, no one. Oh, there is one.)
Now, I could have interjected my own thoughts into the original question, but by not doing so I was hoping to illicit candid input, as compared to a general and useless response such as, “It depends”. So. Since you seem to have more to add, depending on something…, let me clarify for you:
One of the sites we created and run for a client has WordPress as the platform. We are considering adding BuddyPress to it to extend the accumulated audience. We have concerns regarding security, cpu and memory load, plugin conflicts,possibly running a separate user registration and permission scheme (possibly) and all the other common issues inherent with WP; as well as the size of the site already, which is a bit over 3Gb in size. It runs an events system, with about 400 locations and in excess of 23,000 daily events. It is on a VPS with 2 cores, 32Gb RAM, using multiple dedicated IPs, much of what is in WHM, and numerous firewalls and other security systems.
As you maybe are able to see, how BuddyPress is installed would make a difference. But now that I have clouded your considerations with information I would have preferred to reserve until later in any possible conversation, we’ll see what bias is in any response you may have, hopefully beyond a mind-dulling, “It depends”.
Now, on to Henry’s response:
You left out the option of WP on both the primary and the sub-domains; which is the case. Again, if my primary question had to do with BUDDY PRESS, not to gain opinions about WP on a subdomain vs on a primary domain, which is the case; I would expect responses regarding that. Had your topic been my topic, I wouldn’t have posted my question in a BuddyPress que, simply becuase your question says nothing about BP.And I’m sure that question has been addressed many times already. Who cares??? IT WASN’T, AND ISN’T MY QUESTION! Why do you have this habit of trying to rephrase or move another’s original question? Must be a power struggle issue.
Never mind. I’ll seek the opinions elsewhere, from other forums that actually want to address questions as stated, and don’t act like gatekeepers.
Good grief!

ParticipantFor point 3 — make sure you are deleting your users from the network admin panel, and not just removing them from a specific site using the site’s dashboard.
For point 4 — members will typically show once they have logged into the site
For point 2 — you need to be more specific about the problem you are seeing – rather than just saying “it isn’t working”. Have a search on the forums (including general WP ones) for this type of problem.

@mercime
Participant@quinngoldwin I’m not aware of any plugin that does what you want out of the box. At this stage, you might want to look at https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-job-manager/ and a BP plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-job-manager/ and try work from there to set up a jobs category home page similar to what you posted above. Haven’t worked with either plugin before but the plugin author of the WP Job Manager has very good rep.
You could post at the official WordPress Jobs Board at https://jobs.wordpress.net and/or our jobs board at https://buddypress.org/support/forum/plugin-forums/bp-jobs-board/

July 17, 2015 at 5:58 am #241931In reply to: Where is the Profile Page?
djsteveb
Participant@scotty_417 – profile pages, member pages, groups pages – these are not “real pages” – they do not have a “taxonomy” – they are “pseudo pages” – basically add widget stuff your default sidebar and pray it shows up there. It’s a major downside of the current BP, and causes problems not just for easy customization, but also things like page titles and meta descriptions.
Those in the BP forums will likely just point you to your them developer and tell you to ask them. Of course there is no easy answer if they don’t know all the ins and out of BP. Just like the meta problems – point the finger at others, the point back saying they follow the WP guidelines (which for many things have changed recently, making it more difficult for theme designers and BP coders)
No one here is going to help you with a premium theme from somewhere else – at least from what I have seen. You might get a reply if you are asking about the default 2014 theme or something else similar / default WP.
OF course I am not a BP Dev – just another user, so take these thoughts with a grain of salt or two.

Participant@modx – I have had a similar thing, but not sure exactly what you are describing in your situation, and your screen shot did not show up.
I suggest downloading a copy of your “raw access logs” – first and foremost.
You may have a situation like I ran into where you need to add a robots.txt to block the baiidu spider (all several of them) – and the sogu spider.. also the majestic spider and the hrefs ones.. you may also want to add a few allow/deny directives in your htaccess to block some ip addy blocks..
Again I am not sure if your exact situation, but I ran into something like this recently, and it led me to an unanswered support post at the wp forums – and I found the best way to patch the problem was these things, although I still think more could be done with some advanced htaccess blocking rules using regex – which I am not overly proficient with yet.

ParticipantFrom my limited information / understanding (as user not a dev)
“peeps that create BP” – abandoned the project long ago.The forums here and the bp site are mostly ignored and have many problems.
There is no funding for BP anymore – and has not been for a long time.
With that being said – I was amazed to see some really awesome peeps doing a lot of work and smart discussions about so many code issues when recently visiting the bp trac system – so there is a lot going on behind the scenes. All those guys deserve a big bonus, but I am not sure if anyone is getting paid from Auttomattic for working on bp anymore.
There are several people who are monetizing a bit with paid plugins and “bp jobs”, I understand the need to get paid, and I get that there are only so many (maybe a dozen?) – Bp dev people, so providing free support in the forums here is not top of the priority list – and really many of the forums questions are not so much tech issues, but “how to” and “can I..” – which would be more easily answered by a quick bing search..
Anyhow I wish I knew more about how the activity thing chose what to pull in, and how to mod it- there are some neat newish things that BP has added to help filter the activity thing, once in a while someone will chime in with how to do it – but I have not seen any real documentation on it – another job that should be filled, yet will likely not be the top of the unpaid priority list anytime soon.
I wish wordpress would pull BP from showing up as one of the top plugins in the wp-repo and the wp dashboard- I think it is getting too many people to install it or check it out that have not business jumping into this rabbit hole, or asking about it! – lol
Let me know if any of that works our for ya, or if you find the magic “this is what bp pulls” – I am working on a plugin that converts gifs to html5 video for one of my sites, and as to where I don’t mind if those are pulled into the activity – it would be a mess if they all auto-played – so may need to do some work arounds to keep something else there in their place and a “click to see post” kind of thing like were originally talking about.
